Can anyone help?

On the 8th we are running an event at the Cream Cracker for charity. I have covered the costs and all monies taken at the door will be given. Now there in lies the problem.

I was interviewed on local radio on Tuesday and i ran an article in the local paper. The interview has been played a few times on the morning show of Connect FM, giving my telephone number for people to call me asking for the money to go to them or their cause. I would like to give the money to an orginisation that helps to give kids a better christmas, in this country.

But so far i have received from the paper article and the radio show the sum total of NO calls.

Basically im asking that if anyone in soul land knows of any orginisations that would benefit from the money can you let me know please?

The bigger well known charities are very well funded and i would rather give it to someone who doesnt get thousands or millions.

I was talking to a woman from the Social yesterday, but they wanted money to buy mobile phones for wayward kids that were at a hospice, so they can be contacted or contact the centre. But then i spoke to a friend of mine who's other half works in a hospice. He said that the kids keep the phones etc... for a day or two and then sell them on, for stuff. Not sure how true that is.

I had heard that the round table do something for kids etc... at Christmas.

They have asked us to buy an extra present when we are out christmas shopping for the kids there...

why not contact a local kids hospital, home and ask if you can donate presents to the kids from the Soul Club..

wrap them up in blue or red paper and put an age on the tags. then they go to where you want them to go..

I know they need to spend money on the buildings and equipment.. but its christmas who wants to be in hospital over christmas...

Have tried that route already. Karens best mate is a senior matron (or something like that) at the local hospital.

Thing is, now get a hanky everyone. I spent a good part of my childhood in a home, and i remember that the worst thing (well apart from being there initially) was on Christmas morning, waking up, going down stairs and not having anything. Because there were about 20 of us in the same house. So i was just wondering if there was any group or so who gave presents to kids in that catergory. Then again this was over 30 years ago and i should imagine things have changed now. Well compared to what me and me brother put up with, i hope they have.

Karen's mate will be the best person you can ask. Your local hospital's childrens ward can never get enough toys and games. There are kids in there all ages, baby's to teenagers (big babys ). If you buy the toys the kids will benifit from ALL the money you raise!!!!

Not made out to anyone but for the sum of £50.00. They then said that it was for me to put towards the money we raise on the Christmas Cracker night. How bloody marvellous is that?

Kev, if I was you I would go with something like this rather than one of the local hospitals. Usually kids in hospital on Christmas morning are there because they are ill obviously but usually have a loving family at home waiting for them. Like you suggested, one of the local childrens homes where kids havent got loving families or are there through no fault of their own, these children would benefit greatly from this sort of gesture.

No disrespect to Karen's mate (assume you mean Jo) but we used to do the Kids Toy Run at Xmas time to KGH and also the Easter Egg run too. I work at the hospital and know from word of mouth that the nurses families benefit from these gestures more than the kids themselves - absolutely disgusting and takes the piss out of what the thought is all about. Would not do anything for the hospital again on that basis!

Also you have to consider health and safety issues in the hospital too..... sometimes its more trouble than its worth as they cant always accept things under that 'umbrella' of rules and regulations.

Im my opinion - go for one of the children's hospices (these families need all the help and support they can get) or one where under-privileged children benefit!!

Kev, just a thought and forgive me if someone has already suggested this on the thread but not read all replies sorry but one of the main chaps involved in the BBC 'Children In Need' event last night was on Breakfast News this morning and he said that every penny raised goes to the children so maybe that would be an option for you.

any of the cancer charities are always grateful, i have raised over a £1000 for cancer back up since i lost both parents, and for my sister who is now in remission. cancer back up were great to me.

After all it is Christmas, you should be spending some serious dosh, it's local, and well - I don't suppose the publicity they could get would do them any harm either

I've just looked at the link again. It shows 2 dates, 18th Nov 2007 (was this generated by me viewing it?), and the other which I've just noticed - published 1st Dec 2003.

So I'm confused, is this article out of date or is it an annual thing and the script is copied from an old article?

I know Kev & Karen are away in a couple of hours, so it might be an idea to keep the suggestions coming guys and a decision can be made when they get back.

I have rang a mate this evening who used to be on the local paper and the pressies for kiddies thingy was ran years back and looking at the web site earlier on, i couldnt open the page. So i presume its closed.

Great try and suggestion though mate. However thinking about it logically, which obviously us sappers dont do, if it was still running they would DEFINATELY have told me about the scheme when interviewed or putting article in the paper. I'm going to have to take back one of those beers promised you as penalty now.

I went bed at 8pm but just got back up again as am wide awake now, but just waiting for the off. Must admit the waiting takes ya back, if you know what i mean Kev.

Children in need is a great endeavour, however they made close to 20 million Friday night. I was hoping to give it to a smaller group.

Regarding Anarchy, the countries not far off that now, but we'd have a bloody good time. And it would probably be a Soulful Anarchy. Right wheres me josh sticks gone.

This Trust is a brilliant one https://www.acorns.org.uk/ . They do rely alot on public help quote .... Acorns relies on the public for over 80% of its income. Less than 20% of our funding comes from Government sources. Thank you to everyone who raises money to ensure we can continue to provide our vital care services.

I know the work and support they give to terminally ill children and their families is more than special, as a friend from works son died recently from a terminal illness aged just 2, he said that the couldnt have asked for anything more from the trust.

Go on get the kids some pressies and make their Christmas special, it will probably be their last

Just a thought anyway.

I have just looked at the site, and without sounding mercenary, i think i have found the cause that im going to give the money to. Wish the cause wasnt needed though. Having two kids myself, i wouldnt want to contemplate the prospect of needing their services.

Very kind of you to offer to send a cheque for 4 pounds ( no pound sign on egyptian keypad). On the flyer it says that Keith Minshull was going to be doing a spot, but unfortunately he has had to drop out due to famuly problems. Still not to worry, hopefully it should be a great night and we can raise a small fortune for an extermely worthy cause.
