if you only turn up to do your set you aint going to know what has already been played for a start. Paying attention to the sets before yours and the dancefloor reactions will surely help you to create a better set thats right on the night and compliments what has gone before.
  2. says "original us sixties issue" - i dont think so! https://www.ebay.com/itm/THE-SERVICEMEN-ARE-YOU-ANGRY-NEED-A-HELPING-HAND-NORTHERN-SOUL-/232548829117?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368
  3. Surprised no mention yet of Marvin Gaye, amongst his fantastic output are quite a few 'northern' gems but what track sums up northern soul more than.......

  8. Weirdly i was asking myself the same question on the walk home last night and first thought was Jackie Wilson as well!
  9. I dont think i have heard a sadder song than when i turned over Masters of Soul - Do you really love me to see what the flip was like... I've only played it a few times and then usually have to take it off before the end, its too much... but if you haven't heard it before do play it right thro' at least the once (there are lots of versions of this song of course but i dont think any come over like this one)..

I would like to think the sellers dont have any influence over final auction prices!
  11. I keep a spreadsheet database of all records with artist/label/number/condition/price paid/recent sales price for that record etc... & for any sold the price rec'd. Recently i managed to get decent insurance cover on them & they suggested i should take a picture of each one. So i place the disc next to the cardboard cover which has written on it the condition/year/vinyl or styrene plus anything that proves it be original versus boot/re-issue. I pre-empt the file number the camera is going to assign to the jpeg and write this on the cardboard cover before taking the picture - that way when i record that number on my spreadsheet i can easily go from the spreadsheet to the scan on my computer file to the actual record and vice-versa. (Mind you my wife thinks i am a sad B******d). Although i have no plans to sell-up it would be very useful if i 'fell under a bus..' for my nearest & dearest to know what they have got and not get ripped off.
  12. pm sent, thks
  13. wife took this while scuba diving the other week....
  14. thats an honourable approach sir! (but isn't the problem that whoever might sell to you will also now want more albeit not 4 figs..) in any case I would appreciate a pm if you do get one. many thanks.
  15. Thats screwed my chances of getting a M(-) Sam Dees at a sensible, or even sensible + a bit price as everyone will now use that as the benchmark.......
  16. Steve mancha for me as i think it is more of a distinctive work, and as Maslar has already said they are quite different takes. p.s. a suggestion for a future version battle that i would be interested in would be Lou Courtney v Howard Guyton 'i watched you slowly slip away'.
  17. some decent tracks but i just hope a well intentioned family member doesn't buy it for me for xmas !
  18. Dont think the vocals are expressing sadness cos i dont think it is a lost love but so so soulful......
  19. Hi Hammie, pm'd you.
  20. Have to agree with Spain pete, in fact marvin gayes whats going on is enough to swing it on its own for me. But when it comes to a night out then if i had to choose one over the other it would be 60's.
  21. Hi thanks to you both! problem is if i see/hear something that puts even the slightest doubt about a record it just nags away at me !
  22. Thanks Pete S. if it helps just checked and matrix nos GB-1001-A/B then tiny 'MCH'.
  23. Hi Pete s, thanks for your reply, here is a scan if you wouldn't mind taking a quick look....
  24. Is anyone aware of a boot/re-issue that looks like the original. (I think i read that there was but the labels were reversed). Otherwise what should i be looking at to put my mind at rest - many thanks for any help.
  25. Presumably there are still a lot of people 'churning' their collections and whereas in the past there would be more face to face/private deals now everyone wants to make sure they get top price by marketing to the world (?)
