  1. I've never heard of a Maysa song called Conspiracies (and I thought I had all of them) . Do you mean Compliments?
  2. Sounds great. Wish I was there - I've never seen Al Green live. I've seen some awesome concerts though, such as Michael Jackson - Wembley Stadium 1988 (seriously!) Luther Vandross - Wembley Arena 1987 Prince Phillip Mitchell - Fleetwood 2002 Maze - Hammy O 1989 Anita Baker / Perri - Wembley Stadium 1988 Jean Carne - Dominion 1988 Stevie Wonder - Royal Albert Hall 1995 Gerald Albright / Peices of A Dream / Bill Withers - Hammy O 1988 Prince - Wembley Arena 1988 I'm very much looking forward to seeing Teena Marie in Jan.
  3. Maysa's version of the The Bottle is on a CD called "All My Life" on Expansion. Excellent CD. Mirrors and Hooked on Your Love are also supern tracks on it. As for modern anthems, I guess it would be stuff like: Sean Oliver - You & Me Maxwell - Ascension Ann Nesby - In The Spirit George Benson - When Love Comes Calling Cheryl Lynn - Sweet Lind of Life Jaheim - Just In Case Ron Carroll - Back Together E-Smoove - Deja Vu Al Green - Keep On Pushing Love Dazz Band - You Are My Starship Ivan Matias - Somebody Knows How You Feel Angie Stone - Wish I Didn't Miss You Jill Scott - Golden Kindred The Family Soul - As Of Yet Next - Wifey Michael Cooper - Stepping To A Love Song Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On (steppers remix) Tashan - After Hours Maysa - Friendly Pressure Earth, Wind & Fire - Can't Hide Love (MAW remix) Luther Vandross - Are You Using Me April Hill - The Search Mary J. Blige - Be Happy C-Nario - Body Fusion Hil St. Soul - Alright D'Influence - Magic / Taste of Bitter Love Impromp2 - Give It Up The O'Jays - Imagination James Day - Don't Waste The Pretty Donald McCollum - U Don't Want My Love Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight R. Kelly - Step In The Name of Love These have all been hammered by DJ's (some way too much lol) and filled dancefloors over the last 15 or so years.
  4. I still love these records, after all these years: Freeez - Southern Freeez Herbie Hancock - I Thought It Was You Tony Etoria - I Can Prove It
  5. The Leon Ware & Friends CD on Expansion is excellent. It also has a killer Chuck Jackson track on it "No Tricks"
  6. Just played this myself. It passed me by before despite having the CD for years. It's terrific, isn't it?
  7. Agreed. Very good book.
  8. It's a great LP. I used to hammer it at the time.
  9. Why? It's bloody crap Seriously, there are literally hundreds of better soul records recorded over the last 10 years which make this sound like a british pop song (which it is )
  10. Why did Music Merchant re-release it in 1972?
  11. I've loved this record for ages. I may give it a go at the Kent Soul Club on 19 Dec. I've always thought it'd go well with Jean Carne's "Free Love" - similar kinda intro.
  12. LP only - I'm pretty sure of it. Great song.
  13. The Sharon Ridley is excellent. I didn't realise it had been popular this year.

Errr no. No soul category in the MOBOs. Criminally under recognised.

Sorry, I don't know, but it's an excellent record. I'm surprised it's never made it onto a compilation CD.
  16. I agree with most on this particular point. It's difficult enough for new artists to sell anything in quantity these days without their material being covered up and boot legged. If it was as easy as trawling download sites, obtaining some decent retro sounds, covering them up and cutting carvers, then we'd could all be the next Butch without too much difficulty.
  17. Why not? It's a great record.
  18. It's had some recognition but it's a remix of an old song rather than a new release.
  19. Hi Mike Yes lol. I'll make an effort this year, for the first time in many years, to do a round up. I'll also include my best CDs of the decade.
  20. Hi Gary, I hadn't included compilations but you're right. The Maze Tribute CD is awesome. "I Can't Wait" track from the forthcoming Marcell & The Truth CD is superb and a great taste of things to come. I also think the Jeff Ramsey tracks are the best on the James Day CDs so another one to look forward to.
  21. Oh, and Teena Marie - Congo Square
  22. Mike, There's been a lot of very good CDs released recently. In fact I think 2009 will be remembered as a bit of a golden year. Examples include: N'Dambi - Pink Elephant Maxwell - BLACKsummers night Will Downing - Classique George Benson - Songs and Stories Calvin Richardson - Facts of Life Smokey Robinson - Time Flies When You're Having Fun Lee Fields - My World Lisa McClendon - Reality Ann Nesby - The Lula Lee Project James Day - Natural Things Makeda - Escape From Egypt
  23. He is generally better known for his work with Roberta Flack and Donny Hathaway in the last 70s.
  24. Me'lisa Morgan again with picture
  25. Mel'isa Morgan
