  1. Yes, likewise down here; in HMV, in Maidstone I got a TMG 'Big Hits and Hard to finds..' CD, and a few of the Talcum Soul Comps, Al Green, a 70s NS Comp, etc, etc... concerning the: The Realm feat. Tony Momrelle - Time (Realm Vocal Mix) Nice sound, in the right venue, though (as someone who likes lots of different genres, 60s, Modern, some R&B, etc); anybody heard the 'Soulshaker Vol 5' CD? some good stuff on here
  2. Thanks, Epic, for that piece of history; great music on there. I'm pleased to see the Bill Harris track on there, in particular, as I got that a few years ago, and have always wondered whether it was ever played, at an NS Venue. I also liked your comment about those who dismiss the Mecca, with the 'disco sh***' comment; still, each to their own. I'm not too keen on 'clanky' R&B tracks myself, played at NS venues, but, there you go....
  3. ................'40-15'......(or deuce?) ...........this is getting good......keep up the invective, folks.....

Isn't this rather a futile debate? The 'scene' is, what it is, because of the tracks mentioned in this thread; they are part of the great playlist of Northern Soul, and they are what attracted all of us to this genre. A far more interesting subject would be the abuse that some DJs had heaped on them for introducing any particular track, which did not fit in with what some of the 'faithful', thought, that Northern was.........
  5. Will 'Gordo B' be funding these purchases????????
  6. Thanks, for your work, brilliant stuff, your usual top quality; I always like the mixes, put up by the Oslo Soul crew. More power to your elbow!
  7. Colt 45s Lady, lady: Does anyone have a soundfile of this track, in MP3 format (preferably) ? If so, I'd love to have a copy, having been lucky enough to hear it, a while ago. Thanks, in advance...
  8. Yes....It has got a 'certain something' about it......nice....
  9. Damn good; your mate spent a lot of time on that, and I think they deserve thanks for their devotion to 'the cause'
  10. Its Al Green, accompanied by that 'Muscle Shoals type of sound', so what more can you want?; ....Brilliant
  11. Yes, I've heard that, in the past, as well, I think instrumentals are fine, as I started off, buying 6x6, all those years ago; even have the Comp LP which was devoted to them. Funny, but I bet you the seller of the '45s your looking for, might not like Intrs, but will try and charge you.........££££ sorry, I don't have any of those, you mention, but Good luck from another fan of instrumentals...
  12. .....................Thanks for the MP3 (!!!)
  13. who cares? just dance to the music, rather than bothering to classify it; If you like the track, that's good enough, isn't it?
  14. Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant; lovely to be sitting, here, listening to Eddie K's 'Date with the rain' thanks for your work...
  15. Brilliant sound-thanks for your generosity, in putting this up

-By a coincidence, recently, I'd been listening, on my portable CD player, to some of his, and Tina's work; will they play 'funky Mule' at his funeral?? Sad news, but we do, at least, have his recordings, like, for example, the original recording of 'I idolize you'; real deep, down and dirty, bluesy song.. R.I.P Ike; you were a real hip guy
  17. Great show, everyone, this was really finger 'clickin groooooove, thanks, for your work
  18. What this scene needs is a..... ....Pope, Ayatollah, or Imam.. .....of Rare/Northern Soul.... pronouncing on the 'keeping of the faith' (???) ..who's for the first Public Execution, of a Soul-Heretic?
  19. Well said Mr. D. I have, as a simple punter, thought about this for a number of years; in fact I recall commenting, to a certain DJ, at a well-regarded venue, on his box-full of blank-label boots. The records you talk about are treasures, and, frequently, the Master Tape has been lost, so, whilst their exposure to play-wear is limited, they are not going to last for ever. The most important element is the sound; it's what's in the groove that counts, not the medium, through which it is played, ultimately.
  20. WELL SAID, Dave Thorley; I recall being told, by someone, some 6 to 7 years ago, that the NS scene was 'all R&B now....' (!!!!!!) There is, in any, interest group, for want of a better word, a 'fundamentalist tendency', who believes that only they know what really is, for example, Northern Soul, or a track fit to be played at such an event. Frankly, I find this type of 'True believer', amusing, in their denunciation, of any thing they don't like, for it must be a..... .....work of the devil???????......
  21. Soul Brother Inc.-Pyramid...Not a bad track, IMHO;been played at a 6Ts 'Do' ....But, records to 'make me sit down': any 'clanky' R&B track Billy Ocean-'Love really hurts without you'-YES!!!!, (aaaagh) ...and any track that does not appeal to me; and that is the important thing, 'cos 'SOUL' covers a lot of different tastes, and resulting sounds, and that's why the scene is so long-lived.
  22. Likewise-the only way to move-I'd recommend the Kent Soul Club Venue Floor, (Function Rooms, Star Hill Rochester); but the leather soles are the way to 'glide'
  23. Hello, Everybody, Last Friday Gloria Jones was interviewed, on Radio 4, on the upcoming anniversary of the death of Marc Bolan. As well as talking about him, she also talks about her recording/Producing career; here is the 'listen again' link, (she is featured after roughly 15 minutes of the show): https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/noscript.shtml?/radio/aod/radio4_aod.shtml?radio4/frontrow_fri Also, Yesterday, 18/05, 'I should be proud' was presented by Martha Reeves, also on Radio 4; listen again link below: https://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/noscript.shtml?/radio/aod/radio4_aod.shtml?radio4/ishouldbeproud
  24. Many of the ones already mentioned in this thread, plus (and they may have been mentioned alraedy, but I missed them ): The Skullsnaps-'My hang up is you' Nicky Newalkers-'Woman' Flowers-'For real' Papa Bear and the Cubs-'You're so fine' ...for a start.....
  25. Thanks; laughed when I saw: ........'cos, um, er, I did that ...and then realised Particularly liked: Shaun Escoffery, Yass, and Mark Grant ft. Russoul Thanks for the mix, and your excellent work...
