Info Needed On Male Group Vocal Of Barbara Lynn
HI ALL...... I Picked up a really nice version of Barbara Lynn's "you'll lose a good thing" at the STABLES, sorry can't do a sound clip but I don't know any male versions! INFO I CAN GIVE IS:- IT'S A BLANK LABEL, (NO CLUES THERE) of a Male harmony group, song has the same tempo as Barbara Lynn's with a different arrangement, almost Latin soul, or WEST COAST maybe LA . there is a clever guitar break just past half way which makes the record 20 seconds longer than Barbara Lynn's MATRIX hand written F1972-A followed by a what looks like Pele of Pete in a circle, not much to go on, but as I say how many male group versions do you know??? ANY INFO DAVE K

Reflections - Romeo & Juliet
HI ALL ... One of my 1st US imports (as we called them, back in the day!) was this classic early rare soul sound, popular at the TWISTED WHEEL & in SOHO, The question is it to dated for todays scene, or is it the classic that was loved by so many in the early days of the rare soul scene, Today I have never seen a GOLDEN WORLD DEMO, & the 1st UK $taeside release as a DEMO is a hard find for collectors, I'm just lucky to have got my demo years ago (pre inter net) when the word junking for records was a big part of the collecting scene, it's all to easy to find rare records today if you have the corn? Here is my demo, I doubt if the US demo exists but I may be way wrong about that. DAVE K MY COPY

60S Uk Soul Releases
HI ALL the answer to the question is straight forward, it was in Denmark Street SOHO, TIN PAN ALLY if you like, to get the song rights of US songs many R&B/SOUL records were released and given no promotion at all, most of UKs POP started of as Afro American , in the UK it was given to white people and in many cases exported back to the states as part of the BRITISH Invasion following the BEATLES "we love MOTOWN" Yeh Yeh YEH! with a love like that we whites will rule the world PEAS & LUV parched peas are luvlley said RINGO DAVE K,

Roughly Valuing A Collection
HI ALL IT'S A SHAME THESE 1000 45s, was just a ice breaker, a potted introduction to the basic fundamental things to know if your mate drops down dead & you seek the old school soul brother instinct that we had in all of us back in 69, the opportunity to empty the room of the rarest in the collection, it's almost the perfect crime, as his misses has not got a clue of all but 20 records she calls her records??? While I write this pile of crap, watching the SOCCER, 2 PEOPLE COME TO MIND, 1st Andy Spencer, Andy was a good guy who lived in NORTHHAMPTON ? last time I saw Andy was in 1985 he had moved to the outskirts of BRUM, & WAS SELLING HIS COLLECTION? the reason was he was certain that the records would be stolen, a real paranormal anxiety attack that he could not get through, shame. 2nd is a good friend who passed away in 1980 and had his collection plundered GOD BLESS YOU NEV, Trying to value records in 2014 of a typical collection 5000 plus, & being realistic although if it was my records I would get my investment back it is because I have been lucky over the years and not buying any in demand records, they are the ones you sell, you have to be ahead of the game and sacrifice your best sounds to buy 2 or 3 unknown's that you hope go big then you can wave it in front of the person you sold you best record to sell him the latest must have for cash and your record back, this is the only way to build a collection, or you could become a DJ & your 350 record box is your collection my collection will be left for Mick S to sell, as that is the best way also there are many records that I value but would not sell easy, who wants all the red Atlantics Statesides CBSs some of them yes, well I don't know if this posting makes any sense? The SOCCER has ended Jonson Paint final GULP!DAVE K K ,

Wigan 78 - It Was As Bad As This?
Hi All ... Christine Cooper Heartaches away & SOS were played in 72, SOS was available at CONTEMPOS 50p, however Heartaches was much harder, both records are great, Going back to PAUL entry....I totally agree with you. However although for you & me the years from 72 to 76/7 were the real northern soul years and sadly no matter how many records you own and how many venues you have been to post 77, you have missed the trip. the northern soul years were electric the people were brothers & sisters it was masonic villainy fuelled by chemicals at a 100mph dance pace, most records were current or under 5 years old, most were controversial with soulsters not on the scene (basically because they were not part of the in-crowd) Paul added to this we attended better quality All nighters such as St Ivess Peterborough Wirrina, Cleethorpes both piers, & YATE plus other venues like SAMANTHAS & the KGB were a must attend, so Wigan 78 is & was as I said Bad Drugs & full of kids & more DAVE K

Wigan 78 - It Was As Bad As This?
WIGAN 78 Did have a positive, the emergence of the BEAT BALLARD, Gene Mc Denials "walk with a winner, Barbara Mc Nair also broke through, Ray Pollards "drifter" was being played again years on from the WHEEL, I think the BEAT BALLARD was the inspiration of the 6ts sound that went big at the 100 club a few years later, also the crap that got played in 78 inspired the classic soul that we got from the DJs at STAFFORD, I suppose it had to be bad to come good again DAVE K
