its often easier to send an email asking if the seller will take a tenner less than to work for an hour or so to earn a tenner most people later reduce their record prices on here if they dont sell if they are willing to take 40 for a record they advertise at 50 one day later why dont they advertise it at 40 to start with ( becasue they know they will get offered 30 ) or because they want to make as much as they can on the selling , either to maximise profit or to reduce loss as they probably paid too much for it to start with. so by going on what has been said this thread its ok to offer people money at nighters and record fairs but if the same dealer is selling same records by list a few days later then you should pay full price i know of a very trusted dj on the scene who told me that he had just seen someone pay £1000 + cash for a very rare uk demo at a fair and the dealer then told him that he had another couple of copies at home that he was holding back so to keep the price high the majority of people selling records on here do it as a hobby etc not a business and i bet that all gains are not reported to the tax man or have vat added to sale prices like the main dealers have to do, then there is paypal / card fees so you can soon add 20% difference to the cost of the record from a cash transaction if you offer then you take the chance of someone coming in and paying full price against the chance of saving afew pounds truth is there are alot of dealers selling stuff that is still over priced and alot of wannabe djs willing to pay over the top for sounds and then wanting this money back when trying to sell them on, a couple of things yesterday were posted for 15 and 30 when a dealer i use sells these for 4 and 12 and has them in regulaly at the end of the day a record is worth what someone is prepared to pay , if they pay your price they get the record if not they wait for another copy to turn up

iam only djing tonight so the promoter will spin a few at my event next month and that way no one else with any records will get a chance and we can keep the money for ourselves

so if you saw say 2 mel britt demos for sale in a bargin box for 50p each you would leave one there then would you ?

seen it on the spanish jukebox ep , great tune but never managed to track one down think it goes for around 50 ish if you can find one

the johnny jack was dubbed from an acetate from the 60s and this is why the sound quality is bad , i think richard domar found this release and sent it on one of his lists or tapes , i had the info here but have tidied up and lost it lol i think it has been booted from belgium as there have been afew for sale with a dull type of label that is not as colourful as the normal release

there was afew multicoloured us motown 45 done by a pressing plant engineer and sold on ebay afew years back , looked great i think helpless by kim weston was one and another was a temps song but cant remember the title

got a copy of cant live without your love / only half a man on jadan vg++ plays fine afew surface marks £60 post and paypal fees inc currently 200 on JM's site with soundfile if you dont know it pm me if interested

wasnt suspicion speeded up on the bootleg release credited to the prophets dont have a sound file to check but sure this had a pink label and was on boot records

can anyone recommend any decent cds for a mate of mine who is curious about getting into this , we heard afew sounds yesterday whilst in camden from one of the stalls selling cds but the cd playing was a mix cdr with no track listing when we asked the seller he wouldnt sell us his copy and didnt know what it was
