  1. 3am, a dark dingy room somewhere in the north of England, you're in "the zone" Lester Tipton comes on……. Need I say more? Thats what its all about for me…………………..
  2. Russ I agree with everything you say but I've heard you (and others) say many times "when the tourists have got bored gone and the last drop's been squeezed out" etc etc…. well there aint no sign of it happening anytime soon I'm sorry to say
  3. OK all you "thank f*ck I'd stopped going by then" types What about Footsee, Wayne Gibson, Javells etc etc…….1974/5 wasn't it? No it can't have been cos everything was perfect then
  4. I'd just started going then so it was all new and fantastic for me although looking at that list I can understand people thinking it was shite. I'm sure there would have been plenty of good records played that night as well. Fortunately as has been mentioned many times, searlings late Wigan golden period was just around the corner
  5. One good thing about FB that no one's mentioned is the chance to connect with the artists, got quite a few as friends on there. A situation that you couldn't have dreamed of 20 years ago!
  6. I agree with Bearsy, FB is good fun sometimes and one of the reasons for me is its a great source of old photos from people I know and also don't know (Gethros "where are they now" page in particular) Soul Source is still my no1 port of call though and is unrivalled for info on this great scene and music of ours I also think the events section is its one downfall though, nowhere near as good as it used to be but its not the end of the world
  7. Whoever trickiedickie is he should be guided towards some form of help for his own good Absolutely unbelievable
  8. There was also the okeh small 45 reissues mike, US done for the northern market early 70s
  9. US for me, the TMG's have never really had any appeal Am I right in thinking that this is generally speaking an age thing? ie TMG collectors are the older generation who were active in the 60s and very early 70s before imports were common. Any avid UK collectors under the age of 55 please put your hand up
  10. All the rest by a long way, no contest for me although I like a bit of motown. The northern classics are what I was introduced to so unlike those at the older end of the scale motown wasn't my first love
  11. Darrell Banks for me as well, the first version I heard. Seems pretty unanimous

Yes mate but that R&B had a totally different meaning to the R&B which is a subset/spin off from northern soul which has only been used relatively recently

This is like two people in a room arguing over fruit, one is trying to convince the other that apples are oranges Ray Agee, The Invitations - Watch Out Little Girl & The Constellations - I Didn't Know How just aren't R&B in my book
  16. I'd rather not hear them thanks
  17. Steve L replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Yes Yes No No…………….. Thats where these discussions go pear shaped for me, everybody's definitions and perceptions are different
  18. Steve L replied to a post in a topic in All About the SOUL
Can I just clarify this - are you saying The Constellations - I Didn't KNow How To is at the soulful end of R&B?
  19. Has everyone been drinking tonight?
  20. Abso-frickin-lutely
  21. Picked up a Monorays for a fraction of that only a few years ago, its like some sort of parallel universe……………………...
  22. Jesus, another one gone! Remember Mona from my earliest days at Notts Palais all dayers 75/76 time, as a young kid he was one of the older lads we used to look up to. Haven't seen him for a couple of years, but knew he wasn't in the best of health. Sad times….. RIP mate
