  1. Hi all Today up for sale is a tune that is rare and in demand for the low rider scene and is currently one of the 'grails'. On a real obscure label out of NOLA it is currently getting serious interest and a growing following with the price on Ebay for the last copy at £458 just a couple of months ago. I'm going to list it once only, so if there's no interest it will return to the box. The Young Dreamers - Girl where have you been - Hippo NM £400 YT link for ref: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBjLqUtBGBM Post is 2.00 first, 3.50 recorded, 9.00 special and worldwide 5.00 standard air, fully tracked and insured at actual cost TBA. Paypal as F&F please or add 4% if this is the method chosen. PM for questions and to order Cheers Andy
  2. Hi All Here's one old store stock copy of this quality modern groover. Chatting with a well known DJ he mentioned this in dispatches as a potential spin for him, and I picked up a couple of copies and here is my spare. As always NO $16 post or 20% VAT !! Scandal Featuring Lee Genesis - Love either grows or goes - SAM - NM £20 (7" copy) YT clip is the 12" version but the 7" is over 2 minutes shorter https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1D8prkncSE Post is 2.00 first, 3.50 recorded and 5.00 world air standard Payapal as F&F please or add 4% if you wish to go this route. PM for questions or to order. ATB Andy
  3. There is a whole 'nostalgia scene' which 'normal' soul fans don't tend to frequent, but I understand that many people enjoy. At my local theatre we have shows called 'Northern live - do I love you', 'Magic of Motown', 'American 4 Tops' and so on all lined up over the next few months. These are not for me and I wont be anywhere near, but I don't begrudge people who have a passing interest in soul and Motown who want to attend and have a good night out.
  4. Yes, I've sold stuff back to the US, and not just lowrider type stuff either. Seems to be a lot of boogie / funk type collectors.
  5. Probably a split, but I think JM mentioned when he was on Dean Anderson's radio show that he has something like 28,000 customers worldwide. That's what someone told me who listened to the show, so don't hold me to it. If he has that base then there is some big money out there, particularly with the likes of Japan etc.
  6. £22 - £144 on Popsike, depending on condition. The £144 was the most recent sale in 2021. Hope that helps. Andy
  7. Have you been on Facebook Modern Soul Vinyl forum ? Large amount of boogie type stuff posted up every week from UK, European/ French and further afield. Some sales activity occasionally. If you have anything for sale on 7", particularly if has a soulful stepper on the flip PM me.
  8. Talking about the alley at the side. We went to an oldies anniversary in freezing weather, and were queuing to get in for what seemed like hours. A bouncer came to the back of the line and asked if we wanted to get in quick. We said yes of course and he led us up the alley. We were only 15/16 at the time walking down a dark alley and we figured we were going to have to fight it out. The side door opened and we could see in and the bouncer asked for our money and just let us in. Result !
  9. Hi Here's a forgotten one that's getting a reactivation in recent times. It was an old Rob Marriott cover up from way back as the Ambassadors I think. 12. Popular misconception, but only partially right. According to my MP (when I complained that my records were costing me 20% more ), is that the primary reason for VAT was that businesses were buying and selling on the major platforms and avoiding potential VAT payments. Apparently it was in planning before Brexit.

  14. I think it just goes to show that we all make errors and our knowledge is not as complete as we like to think.
  15. I think on JM's YT channel he states its a boot.

  17. But you seem not to be.... "I see things quite differently with another main dealer who often buys beautiful and rare records from large US dealers and constantly upgrades them by at least one grade. That is not possible". I think I explained why is is possible to upgrade by one grade.
  18. Generally US and UK grade differently, and usually there is one grade difference, with the US grading lower - but better - if you get what I mean. So as an example the US may state VG, whereas UK might say Ex. The US guys, particularly the big dealers don't use Ex, that seems to be a UK grade, but in fairness some have started using it recently. So if I buy from the US I think that G would be UK VG, US VG would be UK Ex and so on. There have been the odd exception where a US grade has been the equivalent UK grade, but these situations are few and far between.
  19. I had one done for a sales item I had years ago. Yes I told the buyer that one side of the label had been replaced and that was reflected in the price. The feedback from the buyer was that he didn't know which side had been replaced and if I hadn't told him he would be in blissful ignorance.
  20. To me a record without labels is worth sweet FA. So I'd rather have top quality replacement labels than just bare plastic. You are right, finding the paper match is the hardest part. Printers can pretty much produce a label identical in every way.
  21. I think its been pressed 3 times (?) with a couple of dodgy quality. However there is one boot which is good quality sound wise and looks like an orig, but I was told there a few differences in the run out grooves (see above) and the orig is a dark red and looks like a Rite Pressing with a pronounced central dish effect.
  22. Not sure about value Dave as they say 'its what's in the grooves that count', but I would expect to pay substantially less that 'book' price. On the other question, I too had a rare 45 minus labels. I managed to borrow another copy and did hi-res scans the same size as the label. A mate of mine who is an professional artist cut out the copied labels and stuck them to the copy I had. When he's finished I couldn't tell the difference between the two copies. So I guess if the vinyl is original and if you are careful in ensuring you get replacement labels done correctly, then that's OK for me.
  23. Not sure what you mean by inscribed but Juno have a fair selection the last time I bought one.
  24. Hi All Here are some cost effective tunes from the latest batch coming from the basement containing old stock from a long closed record shop. Most are unplayed but where there are any signs of use I'll state that and give a grade. I use UK grades NM, Ex and VG and +/- to refine. No $20 postage and no 20% VAT !!! Payment is Paypal F&F please, or add 4% if that is preferred. Postage is £2.00 UK First, £3.5 Recorded and £5.00 worldwide. YT clips are for reference, all sales 100% guaranteed PM questions or to order. Cheers Andy ++++++++++++++++++ 1. We know her from her Motown days and some great early recordings but she went on to record for the likes of ATCO, Arista. 20th Cent and here we have a lovely lilting crossover tune for Reprise in original cover. Mary Wells - If you cant give her love - Reprise £12 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeRagy2c-g0 2. The title is a classic and very expensive modern stepper, but the WDJ is a mispress playing the issue copy side "Trademark". The good news is that you still get a lovely tune and don't have to re-mortgage your house buy it. Crystal Clear - Trademark - Polydor WDJ £30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QKAdzhF0nZ0 3. A unique voice with a couple of high priced Northern outings against her name, but she's here with her take on the Eddie Floyd tune. Even the wife likes this one !! Esther Phillips - I never found me a man - Kudu £10 4. The artist needs no introduction from me - a legend. Known on this label for his jaunty "Old People" tune, this is more of a gravelly voiced low down stepper which grows on you. Archie Bell & Drells - Strategy - PIR £10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNOxU_ThMAQ 5. After the break up of The Brighter Side of Darkness, two band members went on to create The Imaginations and record 3 outings for 20Th Century. This is a lovely uptempo xover tune with smooth vocals and a catchy rhythm. Ex+ condition on this one. The Imaginations - Searching - 20th Cent £12 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CJyTdUklW2s 6. Here are the imaginations again with another catchy xover tune. Ex copy The Imaginations - Sweet Mona - 20th Cent £8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxRma2ytTNE 7. Now here's a bargain for you. Tim Brown listed this at £100 and said it was a rare tune and a cracking laid back version of Pat Lundy on Vigor. Rhinestones - Party Music - 20th Cent £30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-T-TgULgAVs 8. Here an old spin for Soul Sam and a lovely soulful stepper that seems to capture the mood of the Sunday chillout today and also gained lock down spins Hot Bush - Tell me you will - APA £5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lyi_EZ7vMOY 9. The queen of soul does crossover. Here's Aretha with a lovely uptempo number and a real grower. Aretha Franklin - April Fools - Atlantic £6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OAMQWAUCaM 10. The great Bill 'Bunky' Sheppard strikes with his own group on this overlooked crossover gem which deserves to be played. A cracking low rider on the flip for good measure. Last Copy The Sheppards - Your Love ( has a hole in it) - Bunky £20 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-9Gpc4PAkc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aCR8RVzk2NY - Low Rider tune
  25. I had that thought as well Andy, but will dig a bit more when I have time, see if anything crops up.
