the song "down home girl"
fibreglass dress makes the girl dance & writhe & itch in a way which gets him thinking "thoughts" about her, so he's gotta go to "sunday mass" to cool down as it were. second line is a parade to dance in, so he wants to see her dance in the parade, not all street parades in NOLA are funerals, mostly they are big street parties!!

the song "down home girl"
i never got the vibe that Robinson is going to kill the girl at all, just a playful pushing into the river. great song, i actually cover this live & it always goes down well. of course you know the Rolling Stones did it early on? there is also a Taj Mahal version from the 90s which is, well, 90s Taj. recently made popular again with the kids through a version by Old Crow Medicine Show.

Record shops in New Orleans any advice
Jim Russell's looked shut for good in 2013, it reopened briefly in 2014 but is closed up again at the moment. The spots to hit are Euclid, Domino & LMF. (in that order)

Irma Thomas, Mabel John, Brenda Holloway, Barbara Lynn, Betty Harris
Oh Willie Hightower was incredible, voice unaffected by time, total highlight. Brenda Holloway probably needs to walk away though.......so disappointing.

I'll be there. DJing a short set on the patio outside on one or both of the nights also. Can't wait for it. Killer lineup.

For Studio Recording Folks - Question On Bass Playing
Lou Reed "Walk On The Wildside" is another (not soul though) In soul it's not common & I can't think of an example off the top of my head, although there will definitely be one.
