The most hated song on the scene. Is this it?
Obviously there could be a few contenders, but when this gets played, I cringe.... And apart from the age of 14 to 16 it's always been the case: Al Wilson is a great artist..its just this tune and it's association with the scene that is cringe worthy.. Ed

MIKE TERRY photo.
My apology for anyone offended. I really did not know Mike was not with us anymore. Upon simple research, here is one story. Mike Terry Baritone saxophonist on Motown's greatest hits of the 1960s Richard Williams https://www.theguardian.com/music/2008/dec/01/mike-terry-obituary clipped by site - please do not post complete articles from other sites - highlight and a link please

If this disc was selling back in the day, it gives great hope for all of us that others of the same ilk.... Perhaps there are some hidden rarities ( to us ) that will eventually show up at flea markets and such like! Ed

OVO
So.... When these lucky blighters who found say, the tapes of Betty Boo - Say it isn't so.... They eventually got it on on grapevine 45 and compilation... Would they be OV or the test discs made from the tapes? I heard her sing her song in Detroit in 2017 and must admit I never gave it a second thought.. But whilst we are on topic....whats the verdict, and this effects quite a few tracks now. Ed

OVO
According to a quote from Richard Searling in Dave Nowells book, The story of Northern Soul, he was given acetates of stuff John Anderson had brought back from the USA between 77 and 81. So the Maestro himself played carvers? At least it saved covering up the original discs, but still, not OVO..... Ed

Jimmy Mack - A Woman Is So Hard To Understand

OVO
Why insist OVO? Because it's what sorts out the real collectors from the fakes. Elitism? Every time, and that was one of the attractions. The urge to be better than the rest, in every way. Back in the day, some folks got their breeks made at Burton/Jackson etc. Unique designs not available on the high street. Others got spencers. Poor people in reality or those not willing to pick spuds all summer to get some made to measures... Today... Kids who wear 3 stripe addidas look down on kids who wear 2 stripe asda or tesco. It mattered then about originality, and for sure it matters now.... Don't look for respect understanding or agreement from ' the elites' if you play boots and Wear a tee shirt saying you went to Wigan Casino, when in reality you only watched a programme about it. Blunt but true. Ed

OVO
If it's free to get in, play what you like. Charge an entry fee more than the cost of a pint and your on thin ice.... OVO or might as well take along your lappy with the top 5000....and put it on shuffle. Ed

The blurred line...
I would agree The Flasher is more Northern than Soul, but to be sure BW is more Soul than Northern.... In the last 44 years, which track has been played most at Northern Soul nights? Not Rare soul nights, or Upfront nights, or chill out nights, or Underplayed nights. A record could not be produced or discovered today that created as much enthusiasm on the dance floor as The Flasher in its heyday...and that's a fact. Just like my favourite IPA - Arrogant Bastard - hated by many, loved by few. History cannot be changed, even if it is looked down on today. Ed

Forgotten White Rock Wigan Oldie ?
I really missed out going to the early casino nighters then Ed

Northern soul police strike again
It could be worse... The soul police could tell dj's to stop playing a track if it does not fit with their interpretation of quality sounds.. Oops I think this happens already:) I say never judge a person by their hand luggage....it could be full of goodies. On the other hand imagine back in the day if everybody put their addidas change of clothes holdall on the dancefloor.! Absolute carnage would have ensued. Ed

The blurred line...
Is this disco enough? Just had to be there to get it I guess. Massive at the Cleggy winter gardens. Ed

The blurred line...
This was the first 'Northern Soul ' record I simply could not get my head around when it first came out....and still can't. Blurred my lines.. Packed the floors though. Ed
