  1. Which of his records have been 'played regularly ' on the Northern Soul scene apart from Leading Lady? I can't say I'm a great fan of his singing voice...just my opinion. Ed
  2. So the Spellbinders came to these shores and played at various places including the wheel and mojo, singing amongst other ' help me '. You lucky buggers who got to witness that! Did they get many record sales in the UK? Such a shame the split as there was so much talent involved. Ed
  3. I'm sure at some 'up front ' or ' anything goes ' events, do wop will get airplay, and Tommy might get more recognition. Ed
  4. Spellbinders? Thought they'd already split up in 67. When did they come to these shores? Ed
  5. When you are asked to put forward a record that ' could be definitive NS' Nabay is up there! Did the record have any local success? Great label for one offs...and quality tracks. Thanks for the story ( so far) .. Ed
  6. Good luck to all concerned.... Not sure if it's out of fashion now....but to hear the likes of Jock Mitchell belting out the tunes up close and personal is the icing on the cake. Carolyn Crawford was brill at last year's Detroit gig. Ed
  7. Seen it on lists and in boxes, but never heard that played out. Ed
  8. Before the t ' Internet came along.....it was possible to compare the soul bowl list, and Johnny Manship list......and sometimes there would be a relative significant price difference on one or two singles. On a couple of occasions I called one of them and said for example....you've got Ronnie Forte at £15.....can I trade my mint copy with you for £15 of swops... and normally it was affirmative. Then I'd buy the £8 copy being offered by the other dealer and do the deal. A few bob could be made on such practice and everybody was happy.. Happy days! Ed
  9. If JD Martin is £1300 and Frank £50k and Eddie P £25k?..... Anybody willing to sell the crown jewels would want a premium.... Got to be pushing a big ONE now. Estimates? (Only a bit of fun:) Ed
  10. Auction prices are determined by incremental bidding competition, and as long as the reserve was met, it may well be due to a bidding war! Seen this many times with folks who just have to win at any cost.... Ed
  11. This could well have come straight from his own album... Ed
  12. Calm down calm down calm down... Ed
  13. Not heard Sam was in demise? Sad news if true. Or is it a fiction book with fake news? Ed
  14. So I assume Gloria Jones management company eventually settled their differences with the record producers etc and her version eventually got released? Or was it slipped out on the quiet? Rita has been on here a few times explaining she got sweet fa from the record profits at the time or ever since. Big time record discovered around 77 / 78 ? Unless I caught it second time around? Ed
  15. Did the Ann Perry instrumental ever get played? I think it's awful compared to the vocal. Ed
  16. The Northern Soul scene was dead an buried by 75/76? Probably if you were over 20 and married with a mortgage and chose to abandon ship. However I think another 5 years existed whereby it was alive and kicking, albeit under attack from the mohair jumper and drainpipe brigade. And even then it simply went underground as more patrons got married and had a mortgage. The debate goes on and on.. Ed
  17. Not my cup of tea....but I did / do like Johnny Jones and the king casuals.. Ed
  18. More Whitby....sultry morning.

Blurred lines? I can't stand reggae, then this comes along : I'm not really into blues...then this came along Don't get me started on blue eyed soul...here we go: So in short....everytime I have ' an opinion' I get shot down with a slice of danceable music. TSWONS.. Ed
