  1. Yes, and I remember reading somewhere that some of Motown's love songs could actually be interpreted on a wider social level - eg "It Takes Two" could be interpreted as an advocacy of the greater power of collective action over individual action And surprised noone's mentioned Joe Tex's current biggie "I Wanna Be Free"
  2. A bit of trivia - "My Conversation" was actually featured in Lost, season 2 episode 4: https://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/My_Conversation
  3. I actually have two - both in my sig
  4. Close - the Chess 8025 is actually the UK release, the first press of which is on a black label with gold print.
  5. Hmm - wonder how much they got from the remix of Kelly Rowland "Stolen" which borrowed the Tainted Love backing track?
  6. And yet another label variation - I presume this is the West Coast press as it has the Monarch MR stamp and delta number 57735
  7. Steve Karmen "Breakaway"
  8. And who did the backing vocals - the Recovering 50-Fags-A-Day Chorus? (or was that distortion on the recording?)
  9. Agreed - just wish I'd had a spare 400 quid when it was listed
  10. Possibly one of the group had a relative in the US forces who was posted to NATO Germany at the time and passed the word out about it?
  11. Created using https://www.adgame-wonderland.de/type/bayeux.php
  12. Nice....particularly interesting that the ZTSC numbers are on the labels, were the actual stampers sent from Detroit to Canada or were they just copying all the info from the US labels, relevant or not?
  13. No need to upload it, it's here: https://static.rawcreate.com/themes.kitjunk...rrant_On_TV.mp3
  14. Doubt if a lot of our favourite '60s were any more than 4-track originally - even the Beatles were only using 4-track in 1967: so I think it's fair to say that Motown et al were using similar techniques to those described in the above article.
  15. I have - writing credit is J. Ferdy. The Mood Mosaic version is arranged and produced by Mark Wirtz.
  16. I believe the "supertime" boot was actually speeded up from the original lp track n'est-ce pas?
  17. At Stoke on Saturday someone was selling mugs with this on - may be worth keeping the eyes open out and about
  18. Mine's just like that - and I'm pretty certain I bought it off you (Pete) a few months back!
  19. Would have to be the Del Larks -Job Opening
  20. This is only borderline '70s, being recorded in 1970, and is actually more '60s style, I've played it at Barrow Hill and the Qube - it's in the same vein as Be Young Be Foolish Be Happy
  21. Not as such, but Barrow Hill is as close as damit
  22. Let's not forget also cases where the 45 has been edited and the LP version is longer - Otis Clay "The Only Way Is Up" and Prince Phillip Mitchell "I'm So happy" come instantly to mind here.
  23. Someone posted on one of the soul mailing lists that it was actually Shirley Matthews who did the alternative "Love You Baby"
  24. Regular itunes downloads are 128kbps and 79p each, some tracks are also available as "iTunes Plus" which is 256kbps and 99p each - also note that iTunes downloads are mp4, not mp3 so should in theory be slightly better than mp3 as the codec is newer. Also, fixed bitrate however large is inefficient anyway - LAME APS rules or if you have to go uncompressed, theres always Apple Lossless or FLAC.
  25. Sam already has played it - back in '83, IIRC he had it covered up as Alfie Davidson
