  1. great scans!, who would have dreamed of that?, possibly speaking for the majority of folks other than the exceptional collectors. at some point parkway must have decided to cut their costs as their commercial hits dwindled because the coloured issues also doubled up as demo's...is that the wrong train of thinking?...they had two pressing plants, perhaps one had more clout with the radio stations so still sent out white demo's...it''s confusing!,...my cameo demo of deep, dark secret is actually the stock label issue ( black/red/white cameo ) the label on the b-side is totally blank, no printing at all, so that one should have been binned!. i think the rareity probably speaks for itself, by the time of this, and many other releases, parkway were in dire financial straits, they were desperate for one big hit, which never came...they turned to the black music bandwagon after their disasterous court case over the beatles hurt them so bad...the irony is cameo-parkway releases from that era onwards became one of our most staple collectables, so many desirable records...the material coming out of the south street studio's was fantastic...without doubt the company's greatest attribute for which we should be thankful. it spawned a host of philadelphian talent who went on to better things elsewhere, primarily with gamble & huff. at the end of the day,...it's such a great label to look at, in both formats, it's northern soul history in a nutshell!.
  2. these are examples we would all agree on yes?, and there are probably more, but the probability of finding others that we still haven't seen, is very real, this has been born out in recent years......you can never say absolutely never.
  3. i meant the "dosn't exist?" as i said it, to establish if anyone knows the validity of issue's, that basically applies to anything, but there are,as we all know certain items which were believed not to and have, in the course of time, turned up, quite all-of-a-sudden. it possibly also follows that there are things we still don't know that exist but in collections of people who maybe have nothing to do with the scene at all e.g. deep collectors, doowop collectors etc. i know it's stating the obvious, but it's great that we still want to learn things and pass it on, keep digging for the truth. yes it's also about issues that are known about but have been seen by so few people, they've been forgotten about, so naturally it can be assumed, mistakenly, that they don't exist. i'm pretty sure tim brown auctioned an issue of bernie williams last year, just for the record. it would also be interesting to hear what people think about the chubby checker, as mentioned, particularly the label design...half moon or hexagonal?...assuming it exists. , personally, will never forget when i first set eyes on the earl jackson issue, garry field had aqquired it and bought it with him to colne municipal in a small box of sales, must have been 2003 and this was just legend at the time!.
  4. if linda had been alive when memorex did that glass advert, she would have shattered it all day long, such is the crystal clear clarity of her vocal range, a totally faultless voice, aretha and tobi lark aside, she had both their arrows in her armery. deprived of fame, fortune and a golden future at such a young age, her stock has continued to rise as each year passes and more people come to appreciate the work of linda jones. can we possibly imagine just how she would have taken the scene by storm had modern medicine been available back then?...we can but speculate...marmite??...sorry, absolutely NO CONTEST!....there are legends....and then there's LINDA JONES. SCEPTICS....GET YOUR HEADS STRAIGHT!!
  5. hi pete, the demo would be red letters on a white background and the issue would be the same as any other release on modern?
  6. sure the lad will have a memorable send-off, to all concerned, our sincere condolences and hope the weather remains kind for you, play the tunes he loved
  7. i couldn't see him without one, he was quite depressed about it at the time, naturally who wouldn't, so i offered him mine...we sorted that out a few months ago.
  8. the label had various designs & colours, so what are we talking here?
  9. yes, was a very unfortunate incident at the tower last november...however there has since been a happy outcome...he's replaced it with another one,...courtesy of me!
  10. sorry, i don't want to upset too many, but can i please see a scan of holly st james then, just to kill the curiosity?
  11. chris anderton sold a mint one last week for £350
  12. opposite to the other thread if you don't mind.....some of the most brilliant northern & crossover tunes do have remarkably simple lyrics....nothing wrong with that....and then there are those that you hum along to, then listen carefully, end up knowing them off by heart, and finally the penny drops just how intricate, poignant, and clever they really are. who's you favourite artist/s for this, the exponents of the song that make the writers efforts sound so complete?. well, i think for one, darrow fletcher is right in this bracket...having pondered his catalogue, its unerring how each song is interlinked with smart, catchy verses that ring true and make you think. and out of the box titles in the main "what have i got now", my young misery", and...of all these, "infatuation"..i honestly HADN'T heard this...silly but it's true, but does the story twist and turn or not?...so, i'll pick one line from it..."just because you like my style, dosn't mean i'll walk you down the aisle" you just wouldn't hear that anywhere else!...let's have you thoughts and suggestions if you please.
  13. only natural pete, when it's pied piper, so what's the chances that adey has come across it along with all the other familiar tunes and he's got them stashed away for a rainy day!
  14. the instrumental does exist...its attributed to music box and was originally on the press of louise lewis.

monguito santamaria.....now thats a tune!, the allniter crowds should watch out, this could be the next boogaloo monster!
  16. i had the action release, which has just recently been promoted to an auction item, care of jm, but on evolution...do you mean a u.k. release or did it get issued in the states?
  17. very surprised mark, never heard any mention of it on here either, all the talk as you remember in recent years, was about the two i previously mentioned, then out of the blue they both turned up....proving you can never say NEVER...would love to see a scan of holly st james though...
  18. tim brown had an issue for sale recently, stone mint, perfect labels £150 if i remember, definitely has a demo listed at £100 so, having just looked at the one posted on this thread, £80 is reasonably cheap...also demo on dave thorley's site £75, think it's vg+ though....on a lighter note, i like to refer to this as an "alternative avengers theme tune "
  19. don't know if this is a subject that's been studied before, at the weekend baz maleedy played me a copy of a beat ballad by bobby hendricks on cub which dosn't appear on anyone's lists, whereas the mgm release does, that despite cub being an mgm subsidiary. this anomaly must apply to lots of things...for instance, the earl jackson & yum yums issued turned up about 10 years ago and they both, had never been seen before, thought not to actually exist.....so does an issue of say, holly st james exist?.
  20. soul brothers inc....nodding my head and i bet dave flynn is as well!
  21. a sobering start to the week, news we all dread, this unfortunately is reality but it still hurts...so deeply saddening....peace for dave is now eternal, he bares no more pain. for the people who knew him, the memories will always shine bright and for those who didn't, our sincerest respects to his family & friends.
  22. don't know how you all feel about the lea manor, but to me it was a combination of both, it had the floor if anyone wanted to dance and the regular standing area for those who didn't and two crowds who were precisely like that and the dj's COULD play what they wanted, fast or slow...this may sound nonsensical or perfectly feasible because 99 out of a hundred venues ARE about dancing and how good the dancefloors are, whereas, the manor wasn't particularly good, dancefloorwise but it was the one in a 100 where that thesis didn't matter because it offered a thinking man's/woman's music policy, hence intuitive playlists that weren't necessarily uptempo in the main. the banter at the bar, the record browsing, the drinking and general socializing, didn't hide the fact that the ears of many a non conformist connoisuer were bent, listening to every offering and in tandem with the enthusiasts of the floor, would show mutual appreciation for a dj's set by applauding at the end. would i be right in thinking the venue in doncaster is run along the same loose lines?, ive seen plenty of photo's of this on here and that dosn't look like it has a floor, but plenty of people who appreciate the music, such is the strength of the monthly attendances.
  23. just a pop record, pure and simple and like all the other crap that poses as music, its got no longevity or influence...is it that the guy's a northern soul lover, as he's used a formulae backdrop. in defense of the video, at least its shot at a legible speed unlike 99% of todays product which ought to carry a flashing images warning. at least it involves REAL DANCING, not bloody beyonce and every other one of her ilk who feel it is necessary to do aerobics shoots that have precisely FUCK ALL to do with dancing...WHEN will these people learn?.
  24. dosn't matter whether we know the person or not, its always desperately disconcerting when one of ours is ill..here's to hoping you pull through brother, we're all keeping the faith right now.
