  1. Well I don’t know what’s happening there then. When I clean records they end up sparkling.
  2. This fits in with my own personal findings, and it’s not just confined to dealers either. The decks and PA at many events is also either of terrible quality, or badly set up. Makes me cringe thinking of the damage being done to some incredibly rare vinyl, and to peoples hearing.
  3. Once you get to the classics, most aren’t rare, but are so popular that everyone wants to own them. Therefore they become scarce to obtain, but will be plentiful in Dj boxes and collections.
  4. Apologies for going off topic a bit. I agree. When I used to go out regularly, I could hear when someone was playing a carver or boot. The quality just dropped. In my humble opinion, digitisation of music has been the worst thing to have happened. I can hear the difference when MP3’s are played. I refuse to use them and record all my vinyl onto WAV files. I’ve never tried playing my files through a big system, but would be interested in hearing it in comparison to playing vinyl.
  5. They have been skimmed, or polished. A disgusting practice, where knackered records have the surface removed with a light abrasive surface while being spun. I’ve had loads over the years. I just send them back straight away.
  6. Thanks Kev, hope you and Wendy are keeping well. Best regards, Phil.
  7. The Burnley All-Nighter was a monthly event, that ran from Friday the 2nd of June 2006, to Saturday the 13th of March 2010.
  8. This one mate. Just too much about drugs for me.
  9. Me too, that's the only reason I haven't ordered it. Well that and the fact that I was so disappointed with the last book I bought.
  10. Blimey! I think they are both fantastic.
  11. Wow! Absolutely fantastic. Imagine having the only cut of that. Dance floor viagra at it's best. Popcorn, what a guy.
  12. If that's an example of the "music" I won't be putting my ears through that, thank you very much.
  13. 15 More Than A Memory - Nancy Wilcox Had this on a tape for many years and always thought it was fantastic. Taped it off Richard Searlings old radio show on Jazz FM on Sunday afternoons. Worth buying the CD just for this track alone.
  14. Can I just buy the DVD's without all the other stuff?
  15. Anyone who has been a promoter will feel for you mate. Sorry to hear this has happened.
  16. I was always late for work in the 70's. I could sleep through a hurricane. But the noise of the letterbox followed by a satisfying thud as a parcel of records hit the doormat had me up and there in seconds. Great thread and article.
  17. No wonder I could never get through on the phone. I very rarely got my first choice of record, it was very frustrating in those days. I always wanted visit Soul Bowl in person, but it was a bloody long way and I never did make it. I had an arrangement with my boss at work so that I could use the telephone in my department until I got through, then however much time I had lost, I would work when everyone else had gone home. As well as Soul Bowl, Brian Phillips list was my favourite. Again I very rarely got my first choice off the list, and I'm not surprised after hearing that half the countries Dj's were perminently camped outside his house at the time.
  18. Very sorry for your loss Pete. Phil.
  19. If only there was a recording of all of my life that was the same quality as these. The ones that were for sale on eBay were very lo-fi, and the acetate that JM auctioned sounded the same. Didn't Butch win it?
