  1. Love that Sweethearts scan! Jerry.
  2. Watching Comedy Connections on BBC1 over the weekend, my ears perked up at a familiar intro...oh, thinks I, why are they using the Jaybirds "Somebody help me"? hang on, no girlie chorus...so is it Jackie Edwards' vocal then? No, it seemed, from the brief clip to be an instrumental, thought I heard a bit of organ there! Anyone know anything about this? Just afterwards, they used Wynder K Frog's "Sunshine Superman", also on Island, so is it possibly on one of his albums? All info welcome... Hippo.

As far as I am aware from what David F told me at the time, it's all legit and re-licensed from Goldmine
  4. Brill story...typical Gloster antics eh Steve?
  5. Knew I'd posted this on a thread from when this was new...the 10" promo

Any kind person got an MP3 of Brothers Two "Here I am in love again" they could send me? Sold mine umpteen years ago, haven't heard it since then but it keeps going round my head! I've tried before but I'm sure someone can help... TIA Hippo.
  7. So were they boots or semi-legal reissues, seeing as they got hold of the instrumental tracks for the b-sides?
  8. Reading between the lines, could he have been a relatively unknown and uncredited session musician, possibly even a minor player in the MFSB/Sigma set up at that time? Just a suggestion, no more...
  9. Got an album from about 1990 by him, bit downtempo and jazzy, from memory it was called "Color tapestry".
  10. Nooooo...."Lonely you'll be" is a cracker - sure i saw you on the floor to it when I played it at Exeter!
  11. I should be so lucky...but a mate recently picked up a Dean Courtney "Love you just can't walk away" demo Minter off a list for $11...some are born with it!
  12. Wow, I'd love to see them Jo!
  13. Possibly Mecca, summer '73....certainly pre-Casino anyway. Jerry.

...and "what do you think" itself shares the same backing track as The Tripps "Love can't be modernized", the b-side of "There's that mountain"! ...scratches head...sure we've been through this before! Hippo.
  15. I'd just repeat what BitchDJ said early in this thread...get yourself down to the next Soulfusion, the modern room was jumping, loads of soulful house, a few 80's soul anthems, and smiles everywhere I looked! Hippo.
  16. Must admit I never rated it much either...hazy memories of antiquated turntables, the place seemed like an old Nissen hut, but definitely remember buying Garnett Mimms "Looking for you" from Neil Rushton there. Funny how selective the memory can be! Hippo.
  17. Demures - Raining Teardrops (class!) Sweethearts - Beauty is just skin deep (had to get a Yate oldie in, didn't I? ) Hippo.
  18. Smithy might remember it, it was something like "anyone caught nicking records will have their hands cut off by Docker" - certainly enough of a deterrent for me!
  19. No you're not mate, considering you were in the same room as both of them last Saturday night!
  20. Ah yes, Froggy, the coolest mod in the town - in '66 he had prime position, best blonde girlfriend, and always parked his Vespa SX right outside the door of the Blue Moon in Cheltenham, the rest had to park in order of "hipness" downwards to the kid with a Honda 50 parking 100 yards up the road! It was from Froggy that I bought my first imports, he's credited with discovering Sandi Sheldons 45, he and Docker were big mates (what was that notice on the wall in the Wax Machine, Ezzie?). Such a loss to the scene when things went wrong for him. Hippo.
  21. Sort of related. had a call t'other day from another of Gloucester's early rare soul pioneers, Greg Piontek, used to collect and sell in the days of Tony Berry's "Soul Collector" mag, also from this area, again 1969/70. Hippo. (feeling younger!)
  22. ....and it was while you were working for him that you did that tape (copy of a copy?) of Alan Days big tunes for me, the above plus Dickie Wonder, Rozetta Johnson, Alex Brown on Tangerine etc...talk about a big influence! Been on the slippery (vinyl) slope since then! Hippo.

Beat me to it Sebastian! Ady Pountain put it on tape for me back in the '80's, should be played a lot more IMHO! Two different demo designs if i remember rightly, mine has smaller print than the issues I've seen. Hippo.
  24. Ha...thanks to harpo for restarting this thread, I meant to post this a while back... BEAN, CARL - I WAS BORN THIS WAY. 1985 TEN RECORDS 110 DEMO ...knew I'd got a 12" demo of it somewhere - the memory isn't quite shot yet! Hippo.
