I don’t think he identified the collector. I think he just said the acetate found its way into the hands of a UK collector who then gave him a carver or let him make his own carver. Maybe John Poole as he apparently discovered the acetate, as mentioned above. Re the brief drop out of audio, I must have accidentally hit record and play on my cassette machine when I was transferring to MP3 in the 00’s. Nothing more than that. It’s a great track. I must have been impressed having bothered to make an MP3 from cassette and then preserved it on a CD.

Maybe this broadcast Mike? All Singing All Dancing All Night on BBC Radio 2 in about 1999. I recorded the show on a cassette at the time. When broadcast originally the track cross faded to Jimmy Ruffin - He Who Picks A Rose, which I think was then a recent tape vault find but it would have been easy for a bootlegger ( not me incidentally ) to add another fade in the same way I have done to upload this clip to YouTube.

record shops in London
Not much help to you as their shop is only open Thurs - Sun, but Vinyl Boutique (owned by Boz Boorer - Morrisey’s guitarist ) is worth checking out. He makes regular trips to USA mainly for rockabilly 45’s but he’s got several crates of used soul and rocksteady 45’s in store. The shop is in the basement of Sounds That Swing on Parkway in Camden ( open weekdays till 6pm) which has some soul, northern etc inc many of the new reissue 45’s you’ll find in the Soho shops. Best place for secondhand soul vinyl in London is Spitalfields Market which is held 1st and 3rd Friday of the month. Sorry again not much help to you. https://vinylboutique.co.uk/about-us/

Loads of great modern amongst this list (spins attributed to Dave Thorley at Stafford) from Soul Underground website. Tearjerkers - what does it for you?
I was playing some tunes yesterday and stuck this on. Had forgotten how good it is.

Cheap Crossover Stuff
I like the Marriott’s version of Tell It Like It Is Des. Not surprised it sold quite quick.

Jamaican Soul
Came across this recently in some records my eldest brother was selling.

Instrumentals of 1974
Can't really help but there are good versions by Billy Davis and The Magnificent Men. Maybe someone had access to an acetate of just the instrumental track of either of these. Both versions give the Funk Brothers a run for their money. Well maybe just the Mag Men.

Tony Turner - 6 x 6 - the truth !!!
What has Mike? The vocal sung over 6X6 playing in the background and recorded onto a C60 sometime in the 70's, or Willie Hutch - Train Keep On Moving? I'm struggling to comprehend what the OP is on about 😀 but i'd like to hear this 6X6 vocal despite the poor quality and muffled recording.

SOUL SOURCE RECORD CLUB 2018, 50 YEARS OF RARE SOUL
Haven't posted in a longtime and have to confess to not having this tune in my collection - yet. I came across it on a sales list on here recently but foolishly let it slip through my fingers! Haven't we all done that and regretted it? Only £15.00 too. It's a slightly flawed tune, I think, in some respects as the progression at 1.31 is a bit jarring, but it all gets back on board for a flourishing finish with a nice reverby mix as the tune fades out. There is another version by Chuck which I think he must have recorded later but it's not as good. In summary a really cool, indie sounding piece of Detroit soul.

Twisted Wheel - Sounds ?
Agreed. I'm having to re evaluate them. I knew about Gotta Pay Your Dues in the mid 70's but wrongly assumed that's all there was of interest to me.

Twisted Wheel - Sounds ?
The Drifters - If You Don't Come Back - I found this in a charity shop a couple of weeks ago for 50p on UK London Atlantic and was surprised when i got it home how good it is. Good example of early soul. I wonder if it got played in the early days when there fewer tunes available for the DJ's to spin.

Twisted Wheel - Sounds ?
Has The Olympics -Secret Agents been mentioned? Came out on British Fontana so imagine it got played. Doesn't sound dated like some oldies.

Not so Tired Oldies....
Larry Williams - You Ask For One Good Reason / I Am The One Either side does the job.

WHY ARE PRICES SKY ROCKETING?
You're right - I didn't spot that.

WHY ARE PRICES SKY ROCKETING?
Oh dear I may have set myself up there! Just to be clear I do like Ray Agee too, just not £2K's worth.
-
WHY ARE PRICES SKY ROCKETING?
Had to laugh at this comment by JM on his recent auction for Ray Agee - I'm Losing Again (which went for £2K ). Today's conversation has been, how one of my long term valued collectors, wants dip into his savings to buy a record he's never owned and always wanted... but his wife will go mad if he spends his money on vinyl..Wives may come and go.. records of this calibre are to be treasured for the rest of your natural days..was my easy reply.. I know it's just John's witty marketing, but does anyone in their right mind even consider spending £2K on a record simply to own it, if they are worried about what their wife thinks? I've just bought The Impressions - This Is My Country on a 45 for £2.99. Just my opinion, but I think I've got the better record.

Desert Island Stevie Wonder Song
No, I think you're confusing it with a cheap mouth organ. But anyway let's just agree he was quite handy on the harmonica.

Desert Island Stevie Wonder Song
Ever tried playing one?

Desert Island Stevie Wonder Song
He's got a co writing credit on The Contours - Just A Little Misunderstanding and The Isley's - My Love Is Your Love Forever. I've always thought this is a good track showcasing his virtuoso harmonica playing.
