'i've Got To Get Myself Together' Who Was First ?
Yes and indeed the instant reaction of the public and broadcasting channels of his 'stand by me' prompted M-G-M to get a 'rush commercial release' but without further Spyder's own material to flip his 'infamous gimmick' record. So they borrowed, likely as Robbk pointed out through Clay McMurray but also through Spyder's own connections as he was familiar/friend with those at Thelma's & Co., a tape featuring one of Joe Matthews unused track...

Jo Armstead - (Artist Of The Week)
Thanks for this OP that turns out to be of educative for me. Although I have always understood the importance of the composer, and loved to read her name in brackets under those explicit/univoqued titles. Yet never was I totally impressed by many of her actual singing recordings. But 'stone good lover' evidently conquered me the first time I heard it. Those Mike Terry arrangements are class***** Now I got to dig 'I who loves you so' ('I feel an urge' never did it for me really, sorry boys 😜), 'there's not too many left like him' is rather good and 'I got the vibes' is enjoyable. So 4 tunes of her in my collection is not much for this none the less fantastic and prolific artist. A 5th is still missing that I know for a long time now; her 90's modern soul silky sleeper 'won't you join the band'. But I still wait and hope to get a cheaper copy than that those proposed on the net. So I did NOT know that she is/was Deena Johnson... If I read it before I guess I did not take that for a reliable 'source'. Never got excited by her Simpson sides. Although 'the breaking point' was a record on my 'wants' at one time, this changed the day I got to hear Brad Lundy's version 😮. But at least now I know that Deena is/was Jo. And I can link those records that I play and love to those/other's of her that I don't appreciate as much and picture a mental 'map' of the who's, where and what with a little story to tell to those who might care for if ever. Thanks a bunch Y'all !

Fantastic ! Cheers for that. Any luck on your quest for a stocker of LaBrenda Ben on Motown ? BTW my Gordy WDJ copy has the same matrix as your Discogs entry edit.

Early Tamla, Motown & Gordy 'DR' handwriting on label
Does anybody knows what's that 'DR' (direct release ?) handwriting that frequently appears on some 1961 up to 1963 smaller acts on Tamla, Motown and Gordy 45's releases from the Terre Haute pressing plant ? RobbK and other's help is welcome to shed some light on this long unsolved to me yet mystery... 😉

RCA White / Yellows Promos
Although we were originally talking about USA RCA. Still in this case Aussie RCA got some "badged" promo releases with such stampers between 1961 and 1963 as they were not making promo labels anymore.
-
RCA White / Yellows Promos
No, I said that before 1965 not all RCA 7" got a promo release where it became an automated case but only past 1965. Learning that such could be the case for the biggest major record company in the USA was news to me. Why bypassing the promotional releases and it's promotion stage ? And referring to these "primitive" looking RCA promo labels that were still in use after the black RCA Victor was introduce in 1954 likely due to huge stock amount of pre-printed promo labels like these before switching to the later ones was only feeding some on the transitional label switch gap.

Record thefts whilst djing
That is for either prevention or facial recognition. Good and more and more necessary indeed. This is for justice and Pavlovian conditioning of the perpetrators 😉

RCA White / Yellows Promos
Correct for the first bit. The first logo we are talking about; Rca Victor in white on top on a black background with the dog and the record player appeared in June 1954. The promos for the early pre sixties release where still old run were of rather primitive nature. But hence not every disc at RCA had a promo release. Never this was automatic before 1965 at RCA where some promo releases just dosn't exist. After that the quest for some release as unprolific stockers can even prove very difficult. For the second design logo from October 1968 with the 'futuristic' linear lateral RCA in white on the left hand side and bold Victor on the right side of the label and their yellow counterparts for the promos ran only up to October 1974 or about. After that the promos were grey instead of yellow and the stockers beige instead of orange. Only somewhere from 1976 they switch to pale yellow for the promos and black for the stockers keeping the 'futuristic' RCA logo but horizontaly on top dropping out Victor but reintegrating the dog and the record player. Mind you different pressing plants where involved for this very prolific label that created and established the 45 rpm 7" format and so variations of colors, typos and plastics are out there and about.

Record thefts whilst djing
Sadly in my experience, for what I've seen over 35 years of records collecting, crate digging and dealing that is not what I've seen, heard nor experience. It's a bit like at the movies, you see what's on the screen. But beyond that, once you've seen the backstages indeep, the magic is lost. And as for "legitimate" or what you want to credit them dealers (same goes for collectors, DJ's and Co.), those who claim to be something "clean" with ethics, morality or a sense of fairness or are attributed such a reputation can be that but only maybe. Not necessary I have learn the hard way... Action speaks louder than words. And that is rarely seen. Soul Boys/Girls, you mean individuals capable of discernement, sensitivity and compassion. Not people in "uniform" belonging to a sect, cult, cast or a way of life. Where the independence of the individuals is secondary to the following... 😉

Sy Hightower mega rare, 1975 monarch test press 12” ep
Isn't that rather the single sided forthcoming Carmen LP project done only halfway that features an instrumental version of 'I know you're leaving me' and the original of where 'I wonder why' was sourced ? As your sale title present an EP thing (even if dating 1975) that might confuse us with the 1982 EP...

Barbara Lynn - (Artist Of The Week)
- Motown In Mono - 28th February 2020 release
Was thinking at first just the same. But when it comes to Tamla group LP's there's IMO very few that are actually that fully exciting to listen to from beginning to end without suffering the "all time" classic that you do not want to hear home anymore or the filler tune that they found on reels that ruins the whole picture. Thinking on the spot of the Temptations 'with a lotta soul', Marvin Gaye 'what's going on' the Miracles 'cookin' with' that should be reachable to Joe Public as well as to connoisseurs. But for the rest they are either collectors/fans albums or keepers for the one or two tracks that didn't got a 45 release kind of LP's to own.- Motown In Mono - 28th February 2020 release
Yes the term audiophile is wrong as there is no such vinyl thing. Qualities of different plastics yes. The 180 grams is only to minimize warp/dish-ing of the "pizza" but more plastic doesn't mean better playback definition. Audiophile mastering and/or recording materials do exists though. And those limited records sell brand new in the £100's a piece. Still that is another matter mostly dedicated to "audiophile" music aiming for high-end phone gear$... But MONO in my world IS KING undoubtedly. STEREO is always a sound engineer process thing. MONO is natural and STEREO an illusion that I don't care for one bit even though many do feel strongly about it. Used to or addicted to...- Deliberately pitching gigs to clash with other local gig
My 2 cents; the world has change (wrong word (since no revolution have occurred) but it's the lingual formula for 'evolve' in such phrase/context) and the number of venues capable to host such (cheap) events are on every street corner. Where some decades ago it took an organization to host, finance, promote and get the 'DJ's' with the (right) records, mind and body to bring and entertain the crowd. All that is not required by some (cheapskates) anymore. Everything now is only few 'clicks' away... My 1 cent; to tell appart: there use to be the scenes before the splits/schisms between the trendies (mods, skinheads, scooterists, rockers and what have youZ) and the records chasers. For the trendies, music was only one of the many artifact to own for (wanna) being what they were/are. For the records chasers music matters on it's own. Understandingly the trendies from today shan't shy to step on anybody's toe daring to have at least an arrogant stand compensating for all the rest they're evidently lacking.- Frankie & Johnny ~ I'll Hold You ~ Decca (Bel.)

Wrong section ? Try in 'wants' maybe...- Rhythm Rascals On Sonic - Ever Played?
You're right. Not the same singers nor the same instrumental take. The Chuck Corby for me does it better with the little necessary Oomps that really lacks in the Rhythm Rascals 'light'n'tight' version that, no offense to anyone, I never liked.- Stemmons Express
Years ago I was shown a small 'paper clip' in a fanzine taken from an American music magazine with a very contrasted black and white photo (not the best quality but still) of the group. If I can remember who showed me that, I could maybe ask him if he still has that...- Soul Brothers Six I'll be loving you Mispressed
No never seen that one. Story goes from the Brits. that young trainees in the pressing plant chain where tested with spare printed labels and whatever templates was lying around to learn the work. And so some odd mismatch (even with distant catalogue number like in this case) labels are to be found occasionally if ever they managed to escaped the bin. Some such British releases are said to fetch some money on the market with few collectors of the likes of the Beatles and such collector's band (Yawn !). But if ever you'd venture in such a field my dear friend, I have a single sided promo Johnny Sayles 'don't turn your back on me' on Mar-V-Lus playing Gene Chandler 'think nothing about it'... Open for trades 😉 LOL !- Soul Street - New Club Soul LP - funky side of northern soul
Hopefully a vinyl compilation, when done with taste and some 'representative' tunes that don't have the favor from all on the "scene", is a much smarter move as they aim anyway to those who can't afford the 45's yet still want to hear, discover and 'educate' their ear to "new" sounds as well. For those reasons I always favored my Kent compilations (pre N°50) as a 'beginner' and always had a dedicated dislike for the Inferno see through comp vinyl and cover with that 'tainted love' tune lasting 15 minutes and on the flip the house party pre-mixed job of too few "good" ol' classics. Onto which all was made as an artifact for the kids 'house party'. Here now I think it's a rather fair selection they did there. Maybe a tad too much on the 'safe' side of things. But I'm not concerned by comps anymore. Still it's good to see younger ones going for them and buzzing on about tunes - Motown In Mono - 28th February 2020 release
