  1. This year, been to Wales twice for nighters, round trip around 400 miles. Swinton 3 times, round trip around 350 miles Bury as above Corfu, don't know how far that was, but further than the above. A couple of years ago went to the Aberdeen nighter. Safe to say I don't mind travelling.
  2. Hi Mike, Thanks bud. At Keele this week for number 39. Lots of people have just given cash, we then put that in as well. The joy of that is, we can claim gift aid, so it increases by 25%. Just over 4 grand raised at the moment. I'm sure you remember I'm a technophobe hence the limited ways in which to donate. 😂
  3. The title says it all really. Myself and John Smalley have undertaken a challenge to complete 52 nighters within 52 weeks. The only provisos; We need to be there at the end. We pay for our own petrol, as it was our choice to do the task If a promoter lets us in for nothing, we then donate the entrance fee. We are well into the task, I have currently completed 38 nighters, and John has finished 39. The aim is to complete the marathon on the 2/12/17 at the 100 club. It would be great to see some of you there, and even better if you could donate. We originally set a target of £2000 pounds, which so far we've managed to double (total includes gift aid). The money is being raised for cancer awareness, and Multiple sclerosis (more info in the link provided). Thanks for reading. Mike, or any other mod, if this requires moving, please do so, I put it up in here as thought it would get the most attention. https://www.sponsorme.co.uk/winstonheath/52-nighters-in-52-weeks.aspx Winston
  4. It's complicated... a bit like the ''are you in a relationship'' question on facebook :)

  6. So your main gripes are that the Guardian printed the article, and Craig Charles has nicked some DJs spot? He mentions racism on the northern scene, which I think was the point of the original post? Any pearls of wisdom on that? Apologies if you're addressed the actual subject matter in a previous post.
  7. I take it you're referring to Craig Charles Macca? He's best known for Red Dwarf and latterly Coronation Street, started life as I recall on the alternative comedy circuit as a poet 'with bite'.
  8. I'd also like to get in on the ''There's no racism on the northern scene'' vibe, but to do so I'll need racism defined. Are we just talking about directly racist comments from one individual to another, as in ''You're a co*n'', or the like, is this the guideline that measures racism? Or is it a more far reaching question, does it include political affiliations, or memberships to far right groups? Blacking up? Trying to impersonate the black voice, although I've emphasised black, it could also be racist to try and do comedy Scottish, Irish, Welsh voices etc. I realise that a lot of this will possibly seem trivial to some, which could go some way to explaining the almost universal ''Racism, what racism'', that appears to be the mantra of this particular thread. So it's possible for me to answer the question accurately, could someone or multiple people if they so wish, define the particular racism we're talking about within the northern scene.
  9. 100% accurate Dave as regarding how SAR was formed.
  10. RIP Paul Dean (Tall Paul) will miss you buddy. Heartfelt condolences to Paul'S family and of course Caz xx

  13. I think the mystery has been solved, cheers Kevin
  14. Somebody's just said to me it's ''Save you a sorrow tomorrow'', or ''Save you some sorrow tomorrow''. Sounds about right?
  15. Been singing along wrong for years, thought it was ''A sorry tomorrow''....
  16. What are the words just before he say 'Tomorrow' around the 2m 24s mark in the video. So far seen ''I saw her tomorrow'' ''I'll solve it tomorrow'' ''Sorrow tomorrow'' Anybody actually know?
  17. Absolutely shocked, thoughts go out to his family, so so sad. RIP Joe xx
  18. It has to be to do with marketing the kind of events he does now, wholesome family fun, come and hear your favourite record every hour, on the hour. He's not alone in this ridiculous there were no drugs mantra, as Fred can tell you, it's a byline in a lot of the groups. Most of the people he's attracting now appear to be beer monsters, who didn't go anywhere the first time around, so to them there were no drugs. They don't do nighters, probably never did, so presumably him constantly saying there were no drugs sits comfortably with them, it will be after most of our lifetimes, but I'm convinced a time will come when northerns early history will be erased, and the birth of northern soul will somehow be moved to 2014 and of course it will be 'our saviour, our Lord', who created it, probably in 6 days, with a bit of a rest on the seventh.
  19. For 'upfront' read 'innovative', but don't necessarily also tag it with 'quality'.
  20. The statement that pis*es me off. ''Soulies from up and down the country...''
  21. I'm on a few and I've always accepted I have limited knowledge on records, but even I sometimes come across as bit of an authority, which takes some doing
  22. Whoever told you 'you have to earn your way to the dance floor' has no idea, and I'd suggest you never go back to this person for advice again. Listen and feel the music, you don't even have to know the track, your feet will pick it up. Go to dance lessons and it will just be dancing by numbers, and you'll end up feeling bored and disillusioned. You may not feel confident at the moment, but stick with what you're doing, you'll see it morph over a few months, and when the next person asks a similar question, you'll be saying the same as the rest of us.
  23. I think it's commendable that you're not worried about it Gogs, but personally think you should be included. Apart from being pretty much a resident, as a punter I'd like to see a full list of DJs. On the actual question, if you've DJd once at the venue in the past, why would you be on the venue's next event flyer?

  25. Personally I think it's false advertising and is milking the northern scene for all the wrong reasons. I take the point it isn't aimed at us, but when this mythical youngster watches the advert, and thinks I'll have me some of that, exactly which venue is he or she going to go to, to be in amongst other young like minded souls? It's just yet another money making scheme in my view, attach some adverts to the CD that talk of Butlins dance classes, and giant trousers and a glimpse of the future is at hand. I can see a point when The Wheel, Torch, Casino, 100 club and Mecca won't even be referenced any more, and if a certain DJ/promoter (RW) lives long enough and who's already spouting that there were never any drugs at the Casino, gets his way, will be proclaiming that Butlins was the true birth of northern soul. I repeat, nothing to do with introducing youngsters, new starters to the scene IMO.
