Northern Soul Top 500 Time For A Review
- Bobby Taylor - Don't Be Afraid
Every tracks a cracker- Instrumentals
There are very few northern/rare instrumentals I would pay more thasn a £1 for. Whereas the are a large numbe rof jazz/funk instros I would regularly play. Basically jazz/funk is built on a groove whereas top quality northen is all about the voice for me.- Ron Holden Boot Or Original?
I remember entering Wigan main hall with this on the decks, its as good now as it was then.- Al Johnson - Singer - Songwriter And Record Producer
RIP. I'm back for me is one of the tunes for me.- Northern Soul - Rare Soul
An interesting read, It is a long tme since I ventured to an alnighter, it was before the word rare was used, I would have gone hoping to hear the top tunes of the day as well as something new and a few oldies, once again some which may have been massive and some rarely spun before. However, as great as it is to hear new sounds in terms of northern or rare, I reflect on the fact that nearly every poll of fav sounds I have seen on the site consists of a very high percentage of sounds from Wigan/Cleethorpes/Mecca and beforehand and very few since. I can therefore see how some who may not seriously collect and venture out rarely want to re-live their youth and in the words of Faith, Hope and Charity "To each his own".- Inexpensive Records For Big Djs?
Am I being simplistic to think that many of the expensive sounds may have been picked up cheaply initially?- Inexpensive Records For Big Djs?
Al Wlson is as good today as it was when I picked it up as a new release. Top sound always floats around in my top 20 somewhere.- Are "hand Baggers" Taking Over This Scene?
No room for zimmer frames on the dance floor!- Essential 12"s

- What Do You Do With Your Record Collection, Play It Or Just Store It?
I see my self as a soul fan who stopped buying vynil approx 10yes ago. Have a collection of across the board soul from 60's to 90's, approx 800 singles (inc 12"), 1,000 albums and 800 CDs. Still buy occasional CDs. I have phases where i will play stuff for a few hours each day for a week and then go four weeks where they remain virtually untouched apart from CDs during car journeys. What I miss the most is putting together CDs for pals of latest purchases. Now replaced with emailing links to items found online, some new to me some memories from the past. I have often thought of selling the collection but something inside always stops me doing it though finances may make it happen one day.- Cecil Womack RIP
RIP Cecil Baby I'm Scared Of You was the W&W track that did it for me.- Whats Your 3 Most Hated Tunes
I agree with Jaco think the thread should be renamed 3 tracks you hate due to over exposure. Just sit back imagine you hadn't heard them for 5 yrs and then say you hate them.- World’S #1 Northern Soul Dj … ?
No idea who it is, but they should brek new recotrds, whilst keeping the dancefloor busy (that is their job) and be able to do it with rarities and tunes which are cheap as chips.- Top Tips For 2013
A mixed bag but all are probably never/v rarely heard out anywhere in any sort of club: Still Waters - Four Tops i Finally Found A love - Rena Scott Blackmail - Bobby Tyalor Love Is The Answer - Bluesbusters Lets Start Over - Miles Jaye- Cleggy/clifton/mecca 70S Stompers
This thread is right up my street as it was not long after this that I stopped travelling north, due to (a) gun pulled on my best mate at the time and (b) the fact that many of the tracks mentioned were being played in some of ther top southern jazz funk venues. Which makes me wonder why no one has mentoned I Love Music - O'Jay's and Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel - Tavares as they perfectly fit the style of dancing which started the thread. Many of the tracks mentioned such as Spaceark, Calif Malibus, Cameo, World Column, Willie Brown, Gil Scott Heron and Rufus Wood have always remained firm favourites. Sitting here now I wonder if Street Dance by the Fatback Band ever got played as I could see it suiting the dance stye ,but I cannot remember ever hearing it, or is it just too Funky and not obscure enough.- Across The Board Favourites

Top notch stuff. Reminds me of something else but can't put my finger on it.- Etta James - Can't Seem To Shake It
Top sound from a top sonstress- Windsor Ricky-Tick
Brand New Heavies was a top night too - Bobby Taylor - Don't Be Afraid
