  1. Paul Curtis his real name.
  2. I prefer to get a promo photo (original or print) signed.
  3. I remember one from Leeds who paid his tenner in at Sheridans then went to back door and let his three mates in. Andy charged them all a tenner and then threw them all out
  4. And what really winds me up or did was all the tight tw*ts who did all they could to get in for nowt yet contribute nothing to the promotion of the night.
  5. Its been a round a fiver for soul nights and tenner for nighters for donkeys and it shows. Far too many dumps, far too many with little comfort. An all-nighter should be a minimum of £15. Go to an equivalent night on the club scene with the best Djs and you would be paying 25 to 40 quid yet we have a scene that begrudge a £12 entrance fee. I bet Djs are still paid what they were ten years ago with many not even getting paid. Most just don't realise what it costs today for a decent venue, decent sound system and paid Djs.
  6. Here is a picture of Louis from Discogs....not sure of its origin.
  7. There is some out there, just getting hold of it. Pete Hollander took some for one.
  8. It mentions the popularity of the label due to Northern Soul yet misses all the Northern biggies off. A double Lp of all the output would have been nice. Hopefully a second instalment to come.
  9. I've had the midas Lp last yeAr but it was a right performance getting it. I've asked about the due date for the Toddlin Town Lp only yesterday. The PR from the other side of the pond is shocking.
  10. If you have a smart phone use the voice recorder or take a photo if there is a title etc
  11. In their world maybe It has sold for a three figure sum though. Too many chancers on discogs these days, usually Brits with stupid prices.
  12. Young Train, been a big record for a few years now and is virtually impossible to get and with so many after it I thought 600 was cheap. Had it been on JM auction it would IMO have gone for more. Not sure if it was lack of interest in the brand or the fact being how and where they were auctioned and the number of people it would reach. I tried to follow but simply didn't have the time to sit through all the uninteresting stuff and far too mnay lots.
  13. My copy dropped through the letter box last week. Great having all the tracks in one place. Use the download with the lp to get the bonus tracks too.
  14. Have a pair who are virtually resident on our feeders in the garden. Nice photo Steve.
  15. Great few hours listening although many of the second are still pretty popular today. Volume three Sean?
  16. Saw this last week and was a bit disappointed with what was included. Maybe that was from a selfish Northern/Rare soul perspective though? Hopefully a second instalment will be forthcoming?
  17. Shipping rates for a container have never been cheaper. As Andy says find a shipping agent and they will do it all for you, all you have to do is get the goods to them or they can arrange collection. We collect stuff for shipping/export and it can be one pallet our a full load (33 euro pallets). I know one dealer who recently had stock delivered via container and it has been done like that over the years too.
  18. Every thing deteriorates with use. But you said you can only play them a small number of times before they pack up which isn't true. I agree though I would protect any rare acetate only track etc by cutting a vinyl copy.

I think the record hound bit isn't true, maybe the Macclesfield bit too, I know who it was supposed to be and Guy said it never happened. I can't find a sniff of any info anywhere about him. There is a singer in the US called Joe Clements but nothing about this track in his bio.
  20. They are not really actetate, it is nitrocellulose lacquer. And as for the shelf life bit of a falacy as I know of many that are fine after many many plays.

Listed it ten years ago for 400. Not sure what demand there would be now? Extremely rare.
  22. Jealous of your acetate then
  23. But the 45 is simply a way of getting the art out in the public domain for the artist, the same can be said for downloads, cds and Lps. If the reissue or any other medium is legal it should not detract from the art and I doubt the artist(s) care very little about what we think as long as they get paid their dues? I fully understand the concept of OVO as far as this scene goes. And an acetate is about as original as it gets so the felow Dj was simply being a clueless tw*t. Would he have had a go at Butch etc? Anyway no wish to turn this into another OVO bootleg debate. The pressing plant can only be a positive, creative musicians are still out there. There is a glut of new soul music as well as many other genres and the rise in demand for vinyl is great for those that appreciate music.
