As said never released on a UK 45. US 1971 issue and French 45 EP only. £250/£300 I would have said but who knows with the prices some are willing to pay. Was only fetching around £150 when a reactivated big spin a few years ago for Andy Dyson. Surprised some haven't seen a copy of this. It's definitely been through ebay but doesn't show on popsike.

The rarity matters little, it is the quality that counts. I don't particularly care about the tempo so long as it is a good record and danceable and the DJ uses some imagination and the set flows.

No having an opinion isn't rubbish but coming out with what you said is. The Mello Souls is a Rare Soul record, it came out of the rare Soul all-nighters as they were termed in the 80's. It is rare soul record........bloody hell it would cost you best part of £15k to get one of the few known copies, if that isn't rare then I give up. Mid-tempo has always been around, Jimmy Radcliffe, Ray Pollard, could go on and on but what is the point.

You do come out with some rubbish at times with misinformed quotes like "rare soul I expect mid tempo/crossover" . Anyone new to the scene rewarding this will expect one thing somewhere and something totally different elsewhere depending on wether it is advertised Northern or Rare Soul. Me I thought they were one and the same thing. What is the Mello Souls, it ain't mid tempo and it ain't crossover but it's fookin rare!!!

I'm inclined to agree Pete, it doesn't even have that line in the lyrics. What does SS's book go for these days? Anyone got the scans they can post of some of the other acetates?

With Gladys Knight on the flip. the "Boot" bootleg had Joe Tex on the flip according to JM guide.

There's a few boots of this, no legit 45 release as far as I'm aware. Advance was another of the boot labels.

I'd wait till it is officially released then get a cheaper copy in the new and used section on amazon. I usually get mine from cheapcddvds or similar shop name, usually a few quid cheaper, they are brand new still sealed btw.

I know what my words were Billy, I wrote them. I used to dance a lot, not these days, the knees are knackered, on occasion I will have a flirt with the dancefloor. The trouble is Billy when ever something like this comes along people feel threatened and have a dig, same with the last film Soulboy. Some of these have far better moves than many long term soulies, you can see that by simply watching them. They have better moves and more energy, not just me but of many other long term soulies and dancers. And I never said it wasn't great to see these kids, quite the opposite, I've encouraged them, they are more than welcome at Lifeline and they will not disgrace themselves either where ever they go.

you can teach anyone to do anything as long as they are willing. They will develop their own style eventually. Most from what I can see doing a better job than many long term soulies. Not like we all walked straight on floor as first timers and did our thing, we all watched others, copied and practised. All involved doing a great job, can't wait for the finished film and hopefully they will all continue with the scene. If they all fancy a night at Lifeline give us a shout and we'll sort summat I'm sure.

Don't think it makes any difference really, many that are instant winners are very soon instantly forgettable but then many that are instant stay with you forever.

There is an acetate, the working title is "Baby Have Mercy On Me".

I do find it a boring track now Nev but probably the fact that it got absolutely hammered that put me off these days. But like you say it's the dancefloor that matters and I don't have a problem with that.
