  2. Superb double sider, the flip just edging it for me.

The usual top night at the Ukrainian, a great little club that has a big reputation. Where arrived 7.30ish to hear Phil Dunn's last half hour which was the usual excellence and was getting the people up already with a decent number of people in so early in the night. Robbo up next and you get the usual Robbo magic, mid tempo, beat ballads and dancers that kept the floor full. Tony Mac was up next and was playing a great varied set but unfortunately we didn't get to hear all his set as we went to Keele......to be honest I wish I'd stayed at the Ukrainian 😔 Nice to see Derek smartly dressed as well and his carer Big Mick...top man love the guy. Good to see Alison Nolan out and about as well, Rowena, Steve, Ken B and the usual faces. Can't make the next one unfortunately as my shifts fall wrong but holiday going in for November 😉

  4. William Stevenson-Robert Hamilton, recorded in 1963 Witchcraft (William Stevenson-Robert Hamilton) published Jobete alt title: Witchcraft (For Your Love) The Temptations; recorded Hitsville, 1963 ; produced by William Stevenson, Robert Hamilton ; [odb on Lee & the Leopards, lead Paul Williams] [pressing date unknown] [acetate]; LP (M): JD 099 20-Sep-94; CD (M): Motown 530 338 2 Emperors Of Soul It is definitely a fake
  5. Happy birthday Sandra x
  6. It is something I've never thought about and something I cannot really choose between. As said both labels have their plusses and minuses. Motown was probably the soundtrack of most of our youth and probably the way into this wonderful scene.
  7. All that creativity would have found an outlet somewhere. If anything the creativity at Motown was maybe somewhat stifled at Motown as it settled into the formula it found the most success with. You only have to look at the amount of moonlighting for other studios and labels by those involved at Motown and by those who left Motown because they were often overlooked.
  8. I must have read wrong as I can’t find anything about any any biopic
  9. Not 100% but think one is in the works now or on the cards
  10. With Dean still on his jollies local lads Ady Crampton and Steve Johnson step into the breach to bring you this weeks Sound of Soul ™
  11. My shifts fall right this month so looking forward to getting back to this great little club.
  12. Here you go from 2012, it was Al Abrams who asked me to write the article and the source for much of the information within https://www.soul-source.co.uk/articles/soul-articles/its-about-time-bobby-brooks-wilson-r2608/
  13. There is an article on here somewhere I wrote about Bobby long before he was as well known as he is now
  14. There is a lot more in the can and better than what we have heard apparently. On Dean Anderson's show for which Jordan sat in whilst Dean was away, Jordan played an unissued Tommy Rodgers, he of Pass The Word, which IMO was better than the Tomangoes. Take a listen to this weeks show to hear it.
  15. As promised, Jordan has just shared the next two releases from MD records
  16. Proof or what of what? Just a typo?
  17. Take a listen to Jordan presenting the Sound of Soul last night to hear both sides of the Tomangoes, James Lately and a great unreleased Tommy Rodgers which is slated for a future release, plus some of the recent MD releases.
  18. With Dean away on some jolly Jordan Wilson takes over the hot seat to present this weeks Sound of Soul ™ . Great selection of Soul and some peeks at forthcoming and future MD releases.
  19. I would say that is the case, there is no way they were made for the UK scene. If the R does denote an RCA press then it was an early 70s press in the US.
  20. The R could denote the RCA pressing plant at Rockway then, GM being the master, engineer or something else altogether? Rockway closed in 1973. Can anyone post a scan of the runout details?
  21. another earlier topic as well.... Can someone confirm that the GM in the run out is followed by an R?
  22. This could be the topic?
  23. Available to order now, give @Louise a shout. A big buzz around this release with Europeans showing a huge interest in this 45. Don't sleep on this one. The 45 has been receiving extensive radio play and featuring on several soul charts already from airplay alone.
  24. News from MD.... WE'RE GETTING CLOSER! We have recieved notification from our pressing plant that the stock for the next two releases will be arriving very soon! So, tomorrow (Friday 26th) we have decided to release the much-anticipated sound-files for Detroit's own; The Tomangoes and James Lately. These historic finds form part of the MD | Pioneer collaboration. Discovered on the original session tapes from the vaults of Pioneer Studio and fully restored, mixed and mastered for the best fidelity for modern sound systems! STAY TUNED... Sound files coming tomorrow!
