  1. Leaning more and more to this kind of sound , previews ( the ones i dont already know) sound fantastic . Will be my first C.D. purchase for a couple of years .
  2. In the seventies I kind of equated people who didnt buy pressings as those who had less passion , Who could resist some of the sounds as they were re pressed ? actually owning a copy of that record you had loved for months sometimes years , the main focus of life bieng to travel miles to hear it and many others, At that point , there were no down loads , c.d.s etc and if you wanted a copy , that was pretty much the only way .They were irresistable ! That has changed today , but still some people still prefer to have a copy on vinyl than on C.D. Also , if we take away those who have NEVER owned a pressing , never played one , never sold one , never lent out an original to be copied , there wouldnt be too many people left , If we then apply the same criteria to the people around in the 70s heyday , I cant think of any . ( they were around no doubt) Several of the main dealers currently have sections for " repros" "represses" or the like and theres not usually much distinction here whether or not they have been legally repressed or not ( in fairness some do state" legit reissue " or similar ) . Ok , Hang me now !
  3. A man of integrity is needed here to sort out this situation , someone beyond reproach , respected by all . Didnt Simon Soussan resurface recently ?
  4. Fair enough , yes , maybe the discs should have been sold off and the proceeds sent over there , complicated business though , many artists now passed on , relatively small amount of cash to be distributed , what about producers etc .. But in principle that would be the ideal community payback . Maybe the transgressors should be made to sit across the table from their victims , and explain their motivations for acting in such a manner , I am Sure Saxie Russell and co would appreciate the " healing " opportunity
  5. I think it's a bit harsh to be honest , I mean it doesn't affect the price of the originals nowadays , there's a market for this stuff , ( I buy the one and I am sure many others on here do too ) Some pensioners making a few bob , they got caught , so maybe confiscate the discs , but jail ? As crimes go , this is not really much to write home about ( only my opinion of course ) probably about as serious as tobacco smuggling , both seems to provide a service (albeit illicit ). One side effect of this may be that the illicit discs currently in circulation may rise in value .
  6. Got mine today , no 683 . Some great memories in there , will be reading this all weekend .Small pic of myself with Dave Molloy on page 151 . Made up with that !
  7. So , just to clarify , Is the Astranaut copy or the Holiday inn copy the original version ? never seen either before.
  8. One of the Mirwood instrumentals that really did work was " Dont Pretend " Mirwood Orchestra? . There is that green label soul fox thing with another instrumental version called Pretention , but the one played at Wigan was different, more sparse, and altogether better. I dont think that it was ever available .Theres a Great You tube live Casino clip of this , very atmospheric and evocative .
  9. Carty commented on Philb's article in Articles - Archives
R.I.P. Aretha , The Queen of Soul .
  10. Very annoying that , hard to prove he's not telling the truth (but your gut feeling says otherwise ,right ?)I had a similar situation a few years back and it happened a second time with the same seller a few months later , forget the exact message but the second one was exactly the same as the first ,leading me to believe this was a regular move on the part of the seller . I messaged him and said I had had the same message a few weeks earlier and he immediately blocked me . .....But what can you do except maybe don't feel that you own the record until it is physically in your possession .
  11. Seems like The Temptations are getting their fair share one way or other , my personal favourite piece of Temptations soulful miserability is " Since I Lost My Baby "
  12. The Detroit symphony Instumental version was massive at Wigan in 1975 , think it was emidisc copies only at that point , i have a white label copy with a stamp saying ( ithink ) re spin records and the title , with Barbara Mcneir on the other side , from maybe ten years back. Would imagine these are around still for around £15.00 - £ 20.00 ish .
  13. Yes ,it has to be Edwin for me , (were there any Ric Tic white demos of it ?). Doni Burdick s is also great .The rumbling intro heavy orchestration and backing singers combine with the vocal to put this in my all time top 5 .
  14. Absolutely wonderful record ,often wondered about the rarity though , it was regular Wigan spin in 1980 for the middle of the night Djs , Gary Rushbrooke always played it ,I saw several copies at that time for sale for £25.00 , Three pressings would seem to confirm there must be quite a few out there (unless they were very small runs ) A s it is such a fantastic record , I mean who wouldn't want one ? ...probably demand has caused more of the price inflation than outright rarity (or at least a mix of the two ).
  15. I don't need no doctor. Ray Charles . I got the fever . Creation .broken heart attack . The sweet .
  16. Ernest Mosely for me . The Female chorus absolutely kills it . Surprised the Sheppards goes for a few bob nowardays , used to be a throwaway disc , Tony Just in Manchesters underground market couldnt give em away for 40p in the seventies , he had loads of them .
  17. Yes exactly , Didnt realise Tony Cummings was commenting on such matters before he wrote for Black Music . Could never really understand his take on things don,t think there were many Northerners that were angry and annoyed about what was going on down South ,don,t think i gave the South a thought to be honest , throughout the Seventies, E xcept when the vitriolic articles were printed , The only thing that makes sense is that they were fuelled by Envy.
  18. very interesting article , thanks for posting
  19. I Remember those charts well , looking at it today , it definately seems that it is more of an advert for many discs that were available for sale at that time (or were about to become available) .
  20. Never heard that before , absolutely love it , thanks for posting .
  21. For me it would be a clean copy of "The Cavaliers , Do What I Want " Shrine 119 . Very rare and such a heartwarming disc .
  22. I am happy for the guy who sold it ,he clearly advertised 70s press and made no attempt to deceive .
  23. Barbara R andolph , I Got a Feeling , another youth club/ early northern sound .
