  1. Got to disagree. The oldies nighters had a very different buzz about them probably because they where monthly and attracted a different crowd of the slightly older people who had by then stopped going the regular Saturday night's. Used to love it , once a month two nighters in one weekend and when it was a bank holiday a alldayer on the Sunday. Heaven. Steve
  2. Just been reading one of the northwest birding forum's and they have received confirmed sightings of Swallows at Pennington Flash today. So that's good news for me. WOW 27th March. Never seen Swallows in March. Sand Martin and House Martin's yes. Steve
  3. First of the Hirundines this year a Sand Martin. Only had a 200ml lens on my camera and it was a long way away so the picture is heavily cropped but you can make out what it is. Also thought I saw three Swallows but wasn't sure. They would have been the earliest sightings for me by ten days had i been able to confirm them. Also heard two Skylarks singing but they where too high to see them Steve

  6. Could someone please define crossover. late sixties through early seventies or northern to modern or vice versa. And why Pidgeon holed as such ? Great music whatever era is great music and deserves to be played out everywhere doesn't it ? Steve
  7. Here,s a couple from me taken today on Spike island in Widnes of the new Mersey gateway bridge crossing of the river Mersey. the first one is the support columns mid river and the other one is part of the car deck that will be raised into position . The scale is awesome when you consider that fiddlers ferry power station is in the picture Steve
  8. I Bought one of those off Sid. Unfortunately I haven't got it anymore. But definitely a original. Steve
  9. Peter. Good evening my friend I think that hedgehogs are still or should be still hibernating, They do wake up occasionally during their hibernation period and tend to go back to sleep. They normally wake up properly in April, the males first. Steve

  19. Russell. That's a great idea mate. If they can fly allow them in. Steve
  20. Russell. That's great news. My favourite bird. It just epitomises spring and summer for me. Last year was the earliest that I can remember seeing them in the UK. 7th April I have seen Sand Martins and House Martins in late March but never Swallows. Steve
  21. Got my copy yesterday and read 30 chapters and finished it today. Couldn't put it down simply awesome book in my opinion. I only started going the Casino in 1975 when the book actually ends but that doesn't affect it in any way. It certainly brings a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye and brings back so many memories of arguably the greatest nighter of them all. And without doubt the greatest time of my life when I like thousands of other kids lived for the Casino nighters, the music, the friendships, the dancing, the drugs. Know plenty of people mentioned and they didn't stop there antics after the story ends, still see a few of them knocking about now. I must say after finishing the book it left me feeling all melancholy and nostalgic, of how young and carefree we all where, thinking of so many friends who haven't made it, lost love, Just makes you think. Gethro thank you my friend Steve
  22. Its been snowing now for hours up here in Manchester. Can I get the iconic picture of a Robin in the snow. NO. I have Robins in my garden daily, don't know where they're hiding but I,m not giving up, just come inside for a nice cup of tea and to thaw out a bit Steve
