Charles Johnson never had a love
Was a Shrewsbury collective (Modern Soul pioneers) discovery. They took a copy to Wigan and Soul Sam played it as his last record of his spot before Pat Brady took over(this was its 1st play at a Northern allnigter). Ironically as there were only a few dancing Mr Brady faded it out before Charley lets go. Pep had copies in his shop at the time along with many other new releases . John Manship had it on his list too. Don"t remember Soul Bowl selling it as a new release. I reckon theres a long 12" version out there somewhere, but its got my name on it so don"t get any ideas 😜 Cheers Paul

meaning of northern soul (split from orig topic)
No Ed from what I remember hearing he named it "northern soul" because soul fans from the north of England were visiting London, often to see their football teams play at the weekend. and were popping into the Soul City shop buying uptrmpo soul records. Made it easier for staff to sell records to the northern fans who were looking for that certain dance beat. Cheers Paul
