  1. Groove Merchant record store, just up the road from Rookys, is worth a visit too. Cheers Paul
  2. I"ve always got on well with Dick @ Rookys, been going there every few years since 1999. He moved accross the road a couple of years ago which threw me into confusion last time I was there but quicly recovered my composure. Worth asking to see his "good box" too although he does get cleaned out of the rarer stuff by enthousiastic locals these days. Last time I was in SF I went to a new store to me in the Hayes Valley area called I think "Original Records" which had a good selection of soul/jazz LPs plus some decent soul 45s and that "good box" was once again behind the counter. A very good "Lowrider " night @ the Makeout Room on some Tuesday nights. Also google "Sweater Funk" for a good accross the board selection of soul nights at various venues Cheers Paul
  3. Logged out as soon as I went back to Paypal so no probs
  4. Hi after buying a copy via the link I could not log out of Paypal (Maybe my non computer savvy) left the page and went back to Paypal where I was still logged in. Anybody else had this ? Cheers Paul
  5. I remember Richard Searling playing Susan Barrett @ Wigan Oldies nighter and introducing it as "the soul version". I had no idea she was a white artist untill I read the 1st post in this thread, and really don"t care. I like Dusty Springfield a lot, especially her Philly LP, but still prefer Ms Barrett"s version on this song Cheers Paul
  6. Susan Barrett for me 👍 Cheers Paul
  7. Mecca/Ritz again. A love song to the "erb 😎 Cheers Paul

  14. Was a Shrewsbury collective (Modern Soul pioneers) discovery. They took a copy to Wigan and Soul Sam played it as his last record of his spot before Pat Brady took over(this was its 1st play at a Northern allnigter). Ironically as there were only a few dancing Mr Brady faded it out before Charley lets go. Pep had copies in his shop at the time along with many other new releases . John Manship had it on his list too. Don"t remember Soul Bowl selling it as a new release. I reckon theres a long 12" version out there somewhere, but its got my name on it so don"t get any ideas 😜 Cheers Paul
  15. Didn" t Cliff cut some straight gospel LPs in the 80s too ? Cheers Paul
  16. Just different pressing plants I would think Cheers Paul

  18. Been to Frankfurt a couple of times, Arthur Fenn and Terry Jones guesting at one and Mick H and Andy Dyson at another. Great young up for anything crowd and accross the board sounds in that great three floor venue with balconys on all floors to chill on and watch the river go by Cheers Paul

  21. Was played @ Wigan. Don"t know who played it first but Russ was playing when I started going late "78 Cheers Paul
  22. Google "Sweater Funk" for regular (modern soul every Sunday @ Knockout ) northern/modern soul nights. Make Out Room (Mission) has some great Lowrider nights (free) Tuesdays Cheers Paul
  23. You"ve been unlucky ! Cheers Paul
  24. Don"t think thats always so bad Steve, can be a different fliside or mix. Its buying the exact same copy I mean. Happened today I had a Gwen McCrae LP in my hand and could not remember if I had it. Left it behind after a whle pondering got home to find I did have a (better) copy. Maybe I"m learning Cheers Paul
