  1. Not been on here for a while so only just seen this......RIP Al Jackson. Will let my mate Mick Malone know, they were friends and Mick went out with Al's sister (Carole ?) for a while mid-seventies. Sad news indeed.

Top Night with Top People, Great Vibe, see you next time.

  8. I subscribe to the view that the African slave work songs, "spirituals" are at the root of blues, gospel, jazz and influenced all black music of the 20th Century. Wikpedia...."Spirituals (or Negro spirituals)[1][2] are generally Christian songs that were created by African Americans.[3] Spirituals were originally an oral tradition that imparted Christian values while also describing the hardships of slavery.[4]Although spirituals were originally unaccompanied monophonic (unison) songs, they are best known today in harmonized choral arrangements. " I think it's hard to deny the Christian element in the evolution of soul music.
  9. Just starting chapter 9 of 11. Great Book.........even "The Motown" in Shaw gets a mention! Now that's truly comprehensive writing.
  10. Thought the Wheel and Torch episodes were good....John Cooper Clarke's account was great....but lost interest part way through the Wigan episode which was largely Russ's mobile disco version of events that has been covered before and would have prefered some in-put from RS. Didn't know that Gethro was one of the TOTP's dancers though!!
  11. "Merry Christmas ya filthy animals and a happy new year too".... Thanks Mike & the Mod's for another year's efforts

  14. Major achievement especially with the rise of general social media sites.....only started coming on for events as you have the market cornered on that but the other benefits in news, trades, and most of all information about the music itself via the site staff and members is remarkable really. Don't know what I'd do without it now
