  1. Not an issue for me Andy just wondered if anyone else had the same, great release, Cheers Billy
  2. My copy plays the extended version on the A side, anyone else found the same?

  4. There's been threads before on the subject, if you scroll down to the bottom of this thread there's a list of previous discussions on the subject. Seem to remember someone mentioned a specific pair of Adidas as the best trainers on one thread. I personally prefer leather soles. I've have a pair of Loake penny loafers, some Delicious Junction brogues and a pair of Bass Weejuns, all leather soled all great for dancing in.
  5. I had a similar experience in Liverpool late 70's I think, Wilson Picket supported by Phillip Mitchell, very sparse crowd but Mr Pickett sang his heart out. Don't know if I have persuaded myself this happened over the years but I recall he stopped singing until someone bought him a whiskey, anyone else there can confirm this.
  6. I don't think the playing of questionable records is exclusively the domain of the rare soul scene. When you see a group of knowledgeable long time devotees of the scene dancing in a circle with arms waving in the air to Petula Clarke that for me was baffling. They were enjoying themselves so I suppose as always it comes down to one man's meat, to each his own etc. I don't consider it as sinking low , whether you like the record or not it does have its merits as a good tune of its kind and if someone considers it worthy of playing out fair play to them.
  7. Cannot remember where but someone on here said he played it out, maybe about three years ago. Seem to remember he said it got quite a good reaction. I actually like the tune, won't claim it to be soul and I did buy a copy. Playing the A side someone must have been doing some serious digging to flip it over. Memory is sketchy but I think he said he played it at an all nighter in the Midlands possibly. Again not sure but he might have posted either a play list or a podcast with it on. I definitely remember the comment though.
  8. Look forward to ploughing through that little lot Russ, loads new to me, thanks for posting.
  9. Merry Christmas one and all, thanks to the Source Team for all their hard work, cheers to contributors to the various media threads for helping me spend more than I should have on vinyl this year. Hoping you all have a Happy healthy New Year.

  11. Marvellous mix, a lot I knew, several I'd forgotten about and more than a few new to me, utter perfection, thanks for posting.
  12. There's a demo for sale on ebay at the moment that has a release date of 29/6/73
  13. Sunday 2.10pm, on Talking Pictures documentary The Story of Northern Soul, can't say I know anything about it just been told by a mate, anyone seen it, is it any good?
  14. Sadly due to sellers on Ebay listing a record under as many musical genres as possible to get maximum search results it will probably get worse. I wonder is it just us or do collecters of say heavy rock shake their heads (oops course they do) when ABBA comes up under rock. I had to smile the other day when Charlie Drake Please Mr Custer came up in one of my searches, happy memories of children's favourites. Three Wheels on my Wagon etc which working on HGV's was one I would often break out into song to the amusement of older workmates and the bafflement of the apprentices.
  15. I've mentioned this before on a thread earlier this year. I have a want's list on Discogs where I put records obviously that I want but also tunes I hear on podcasts etc that are new to me and I might consider buying at some stage. I had a Jerry Butler that was listed by several sellers ,only a cheapie ranging from £7 to £15 in a range of conditions. After lying in my wants list for months I decided to buy, one guy had a mint copy for £9 accepting offers. Most of his listings were non soul records. Being cheeky I thought well if he is accepting offers I'll offer him £7. I quickly got a reply declining my offer. Bearing in mind the majority of the listings had been there since I first put the record on the list there clearly was little demand. Lo and behold I then got a message telling me the seller had relisted the record at £15 the same price as several others proving your point to some degree. I did buy a copy from someone else but kept it on my wants list to see if his sold, no surprise it is still there.
  16. Thank you for taking the time to reply Russ, he will appreciate the info.
  17. My son in law filmed this today, any ideas as to the bird of prey? VID-20210528-WA0002.mp4
  18. Lovely area Andy, I stayed in Plockton about 15 yrs ago, my former neighbours were Scottish and her parents had a holiday home just above the Loch. We had a memorable night in the Plockton Inn with local musicians playing being joined by young people from if memory serves me right a nearby music school. Cheated just looked it up and for once my memory did serve, Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd (National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music) at Plockton High School Highland.
  19. Apart from the actual joy of listening to the music those few words some up one of the other delights of collecting, I remember back when I first started my own journey into soul music and the missed heartbeat coming across a Blue Stax record which though common to find were for me as a fourteen year old new to the music with little money was true treasure. Seeing the label today still warms my heart and brings a smile.
  20. Frankie Saunders, great tune and one that had completely slipped my mind, added to wants list cheers Mal
  21. Those were the ones I bought Steve, I found they had good reviews across several sites, I bought the RSPB guide which hopefully should arrive tomorrow. I honestly didn't think I would get as much pleasure as I have done from getting closer to wildlife.
  22. Cheers Andy, thanks for reminding me, I thought about that when I was out walking and looked up some intending to download one when I got home, completely forgot.
  23. Not adding much to the thread but I've seen it listed as such somewhere on Discogs, obviously I mean it's me not adding much to the thread not you.
  24. Down to the photos posted on here I reckoned I didn't need any more records for a day or two so spent my birthday money on a pair of binoculars. Did some research on a few birding sites and followed the advice, didn't want to do my usual trick of buying something expensive then never using it/them so went for one with good reviews. Happy with the ones I bought but maybe would have bought bigger magnification if I'd had the opportunity to test them first. So a big thanks to Steve, Martyn, Russ and everyone who posts up pics, made my walks a lot more enjoyable, resulted in a few conversations I probably would not have had with passing strangers, first day trying them brown bird turned out to be a Greenfinch, who knew them little brown birds had such a variety of markings and shades of brown, now had to send off for bird book to carry with me. Also great for spotting the elusive stile across a field on little used paths...not that there's many of those at the moment. Normally I would not complain but there's an awful lot of tits about 😉 Cheers chaps 👍
  25. It was toss up between Keep and Depends for me. As Russ says it's down to the promoter who should know whether his night and the crowd he caters for warrants a second room. If the promoter knows from the get go that the main room always has a good crowd and there is also a demand for a room playing in whatever way something different plus the Dj's playing in that room are aware they will be playing to a limited audience I see no problem. I've seen it work with the same Dj's playing both rooms, some of the Dj's I know were happy to play and try out tunes in the second room they know would not gain instant acceptance in the main room. Much as I enjoy the tried and tested given the choice I'd go for listening to new, underplayed, rare, whatever just something other than the same old same old. If the promoter is happy with a second room and it does not adversely affect the main room happy days.
