  1. Great clip Always has been & always will be one of those feelgood records no matter who does it. Seem to remember an accordian version on site a while back. I dare you Mike
  2. As we're making comparisons my all time favorite tv show is Red Dwarf. Modern = The Cat, so cool he's ice cold. Crossover = Lister, loveable rogue. Northern = Rimmer, nuff said
  3. No 5 - The Combinations on Kellmac. As for the value? I'd say about £2 so if anybody's got a copy i'd gladly do them a favour & give e'm a fiver for it
  4. Thought you'd have got no 13 Sean. Get Ready - Alan Harris & Perpetual Motion. Great record

  6. Same here Roger, thought the Reel Soul Mix was the best but had to have a listen to the Ron Carroll mix as well. Hopefully Fish will come up with the goods & get some promo's in so the vinyl buffs won't have to wait until October to get there mitts on a copy.

  9. Hi Chalky, As a promoter i think it's a case of using all of the above methods these days with so many nights on at the moment but forums such as this one seem to be playing a bigger part in promoting. We seem to get quite a good feedback from promotional text messages as well as it adds a personal touch & we have noticed more venues are now doing the same.
  10. Pirceless If you think that's funny Pete follow this link to see a DJ dissappear. /index.p...tal=11&st=0
  11. Hey up Sean, I'm glad you picked last nights do at the Crown as an example for this thread as i'm a promoter of a similar night to Brian & Colins night. When we started our Modernism nights 2 1/2 years ago there wasn't much happening on the modern soul scene in this area apart from us & the modern room at Terry Wrights Castle Park nights that took place on the 1st friday monthly so we chose the 3rd friday to keep some distance between the 2 nights. This worked perfectly & Terry Wright was our 1st guest dj & Errol & myself have regularly guested for him at Castle Park. Another reason we chose the 3rd friday was that there was nothing else on in the Yorkshire area apart from Brighouse & that is primarily an oldies venue so there was no problem there. Within a Month another modern night opened up in Rotherham but we all survived & the punters kept coming for a while then it started getting silly. If you look at the 3rd friday of each month now on the modern scene alone you will find there are at least 5 nights on within a 1/2 hour drive of South Yorkshire including the night you attended last night in Derby. Don't get me wrong on this as i am not having a dig at the other venue's that clash with us, far from it, it's great to have somewhere locally to attend every week but there just ain't enough punters out there to go round. The soloution? Not easy i'm afraid but we are looking at moving our Modernism nights to the 4th Saturday in the month as at this point nothing similar clashes + there are 4 months in the year where there are 5 saturdays in the month so this is when we are planning on booking the bigger name guests. On the nights where there are 4 saturdays in the month we're looking at reducing our admission charges or even putting on free nights & using local dj's who don't get as many opportunities as the bigger names. The other thing we are looking at doing is going bi-monthly & it would make a lot of sense if a few more nights that clashed did this as it only splits the crowd at nights that clash. Oh the joys of being a promoter Mart...
  12. If you liked that see what you think of this. It's Angie Stone featuring Snoop Dog - I Wanna Thank Ya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IizyrahZp7c
  13. Baz & Bazza - Same person?
  14. Here you go Phil. https://www.ducktape.ca/chitchat/kebdarge/index.html
  15. Sad but familiar story Dave. Without going into too much detail Chris got a bit too deeply involved with serious drug use & ended up letting a lot of people down. Not heard anything about what he's up to now but i hope everything worked out for him & he's ok now. Mart...
  16. Here's a few fliers from Clifton Hall.
  17. Wasn't going to get involved in this topic as it's sure to be raised again & again but i'm here now so let me throw this little scenario into the pot. About 18 months ago i played a track off "The Official Steppers" CD (Step It Up by Marvin Junior Jr). At the time it was only available from the Official Steppers website in Chicago. Our guest on the same night at our Modernism night is a big name both on the Northern & Modern scenes so when he asked me if i could burn him a copy onto CD for him to copy onto vinyl i felt a bit chuffed at the time & even joked with him that i would if he burnt me a copy of Joseph Webster off so i could do the same. A couple of months went by & i went to a night where the same DJ was playing in both the Northern & Modern room & guess what? He played the track off a vinyl copy (probably a vinyl carvers job) in both rooms. Point is the DJ in question would never play a boot or a re-issue & at least the artist got a % of the money i paid for my CD copy but they got jack shit for his dodgy vinyl copy. Must point out that i didn't copy it for him BTW.
  18. Just got a contact number for Ian via Keb's old friend Julia who co promotes Modernism alongside Errol & myself so i'll be in touch with him as soon as we have sorted out some more dates Think you could do better Gareth You could always make the journey up to South Yorkshire together with Ian Could be interesting & it would fit in nicely with what Modernism's about as we're always looking to bring DJ's into South Yorkshire who haven't played round here before & quite a few of them have been booked aftarwards at other local venues. Mart...
  19. Wondered who'd bite 1st Joe Just wondering, is Al Mason good soulful disco or handbag disco

  21. Remembered now James, must have heard it here or possibly played by Butch https://www.soul45.org/cgi-bin/radioshow.cgi?record=16 Suppose my £5 offer's gone out of the window i guess, how about £10 Hmmm, a deep funk night at Modernism. Now thats a thought.....
  22. Just an ugly rumor Joe It's a lap dancing club now Joe (as you well know). I know the guy who is the resident DJ there & a while back he asked if i wanted to help him out DJ'ing, a dream job you might think & good money too. Only problem was he wanted me to do Sunday night & that was the mixed night. Gonna send him your details
  23. James, as the Mellow Madness is quite clearly a bag of shite i'll do you a favour & take it off your hands for a fiver Seriously though i'm racking my brains to remember where i've heard it before. Great tune
  24. I can put face's to most of those names Mak A local of mine sells a real ale called "Dogs Bollocks" on draught & recently started selling it bottled. They had a great advertising campaign & there were posters all over the pub that read "you can now get your bollocks in a bottle"
