Legendary singer Frankie Beverly dies at the age of 77..
Sad news. Maze were high quality and Frankie fronted the band to a tee. Saw them in London when they were at their peak. A great night. He leaves behind some superb recordings.

Soul4Real New Releases - Annette Snell (S4R27) & Frederick Knight (S4R28)
I read somewhere that the master tapes were with Annette when she died in the plane crash. Great to have a couple of tracks from the MS sessions. But 40+ years in the can? She was a fabulous singer. Who knows what she might have recorded.

The best DJ the UK has produced.
As far as radio is concerned I rated Peter Young highly. Championed Soul music, knowledgeable, open minded, enthusiastic with a great manner at the mic. He was also a really funny bloke.

That was rather tasty. Some great tracks. Much enjoyed, thanks.

Bruce Springsteen does Frank Wilson, give me strength!
Bruce is OK. The River is a great song. Doing covers of soul tracks is fine by me., not that i think this particular cover is anything to write home about.

Stax or Motown what's your preference?
If pushed i'd go for Stax. Just a bit earthier, tougher and with the Muscle Shoals connection. Southern soul, for me, just hits the spot more often. But we are comparing chalk and cheese to a degree as records made for Stax in Memphis just couldnt have been made by Motown in Detroit and vice versa.

Lamont Dozier R.I.P.
Simply one of the greats. Difficult to pick one track from an artist who was responsible for so much high quality recordings but i think this is a neat track from an outstanding album.

The Gabriels at Glastonbury
That guy can sing. I mean really sing. Great presence and a lovely rapport with the audience. Not sure about some of the material but i want to hear more of them.

Ronnie Laws and Pressure - Always There
The original is so damn good! That insistent piano, bubbling percussion, nifty guitars and Ronnie's sax on top. A classic. Never fails to grab my attention.

Don't give up hope - Soul / Gospel mix
Very nice. Pick for me is the Shirley Caesar track but there are no duds here.

Poll: Version Battle - Wide Awake In A Dream
Jackson or Collins for me. Think they have the fuller, more interesting arrangements. Collins delivers a good performance and the whole thing is very nicely put together, but i'm going with Jackson for his well judged vocal, the very interesting vocal harmony arrangement and those vibes!
