  1. Rick Scanner not working but took camera shots, states 1 september 1974 list..............
  2. I bought one of the original Duke Browners from Global after Richard found 200 of them in the USA. The price then was 60p. I still have the record and the yellow global price list stating 60p. Louis
  3. Steve, The "walk on by" at the Wilton was being played just after the doors opened (11pm) and yeah it did cause comment, but it was still better to hear than "Do I love you". The Wilton was my favourite venue over the years ,as it provided the greatest variety (mostly good but some bad uns too) of records for me. Agree about the better DW tracks though. Louis
  4. That's all very good, Derek, but what will you be wearing? Louis X
  5. Interesting thread this. It certainly got me thinking about visiting various venues over the past 40 years. A couple of venues and records that stand out and caused debate amongst the car passengers on the way home were: 100 club - Driving over 400 miles to hear (I think it was Ady at the end?) playing Elgins "Heaven must have sent you" Wilton - Walking in to hear Dionne Warwick "walk on by" (don't remember who was on) Both very well known records and remember thinking how brave of the DJ's and again the consensus was if it's a good record play it. I believe my group and I were and still am of the opinion that we want to hear a variety at an all nighter, but there must be things played that are new to our ears. All I expect is that any DJ prepares their box before embarking, rather than pick up the same box with the same records...............Think! Louis
  6. Quote " The only R n B at all-nighters should be red and browns" Gaz Kellett 1994 A true quote one night at the 100 club Louis
  7. Remember one Wilton allnighter when Gaz kellett was djing then followed by Bob Hinsley. Bob (very professional DJ IMHO) cued the record, spoke to thank Gaz then the needle just skated over the vinyl ! It took a while for Bob to get the "Fluff" off the needle..... Louis
  8. When I looked at it I thought It looked a lot like Bernie Goldings barn after he bought Ian Levines collection, although these weren't covered in dog turds like Bernie's was! Louis
  9. I remember the Irish all nighter at Manchester Tiffs. What I recall is "everyone" going bonkers in the side room where Dave/Rod were playing tapes of the Motown discoveries and saying Dave would play them out at the next Stafford............... Louis
  10. There definitely was a one off Northern night at Liverpool Tiffany's (under the Liver building) in 79/80(?) with "casino classic" giveaways! About 50 in attendance on a tuesday night. I worked for Mecca then and organised it. I think Nic Cowan dj'd at it (think he did a northern radio show across the mersey in Birkinhead?) I also went to a few funk niters at the timepiece. Louis
  11. Very sad news. R.I.P. Salmon Louis
  12. Even tho I'm not religious in anyway. Praying and hoping for you. Louis
  13. The self proclaimed "Soul Twats" (Mr Kellett & Mr Molloy)................both had very good taste and knew what the dancefloor wanted. A crying shame some bastArd stole Gaz's records. They had the Personality, humour, knowledge and the records in the day! Louis
  14. At one time the only RnB on the Northern scene were Red and Browns Louis
  15. 20 years! R.I.P. Pete What records have you still got that you got of Pete Lawson ? ( I seem to remember Joan saying on here a while back, she wouldn't sell her Doris Smith-No good guy as she got it off Pete ?) The record I Got off Pete that I wouldn't sell is Little Jimmy Thompson-Jimmy's place! Louis P.S. I wouldn't sell my Doris Smith cos I trod on it and cracked it in 2 places !!!
  16. More sad news. R.I.P. Carole. Louis
  17. Very sad news. R.I.P. Micky. Louis
  18. I've stopped buying off USA ebay as recently had to pay £17 for vat and £8 Post office. Mind you............. if everyone is stopping buying from USA I might get them cheaper with no one bidding against me! Louis
  19. I had a Jimmy Robins- I can't please you on Canadian President, which I sold to Robbo at a Ritz all-nighter. still got Quality (Barbara mason) and Reo (Spellbinders) Louis
  20. Not sure if this is an urban myth or true. I seem to remember that Jed Rudd RIP (Preston) had a dutch copy and rather than sell it at the Torch, he raffled it one night there, making a lot more than if he had sold it. Jed had a certain reputation and I think most people would have just handed over their money, anyhow Louis
  21. Kloisters was across the road from Tiffany's and was basically the night club where you could get in, if you couldn't get in anywhere else. It was always going off there at weekends. Jilly's bar (I think) was part of Henry's ( same side As Tiffany's on Oxford street) and ran heavy rock nights there. Louis PS I like Bury FC............
  22. I used to Work at Manchester Tiffany's on oxford street 1980/82. Used to go in Tommy duck's quite a lot and always before Ritz all-dayers. Anyone remember Kloisters on Oxford street? They had Northern nights on a Friday. Also Brewsters (up near Piccadilly, somewhere) with Brian Rae on a tuesday? Good times in Manc early eighties, even though I am a Leeds Fan Louis
  23. The late nineties saw other venues providing anniversary singles e.g King Georges Hall, Blackburn 4th anniversary, Bretby (linda griner and 12" terry callier, Lowton Celeste hardy and doni Burdick plus Ty karim and JD Bryant) and no doubt a few others at the time. It seems to me there is a bit of a north/south divide on the prices i.e. more expensive for the 100 club anniversary 45's, yet I believe the KGH single (belita woods c/w darrell banks) had 500 pressed and Bretby's linda griner press was only 100/250, I've seen Lowton's celeste hardie/doni burdick going for between £5 and £20. Then the other venues started giving anniversary C.D.s!, thank god the 100 club still does vinyl, I think if they ever gave out anniversary CDs, instead of vinyl then it would signal the END. I personally would never sell my 100 club anniversary records, but would sell the other ones I got from other venues. Louis
  24. About 10 years ago I wanted a copy of "Joey Gee-It's more than I deserve". One Wilton I'd given a lift to some of the Preston lot. One guy was an avid collector (Joan ask tony who it was, as I told him this tale recently!) and on the journey over there I told him if you see one for sale, please tell me, as i'd just missed buying one off Kyle McGill (RIP) recently. Come the morning 6am, getting everyone together I noticed he had bought about 5 records so asked him what he'd bought. You guessed it there was a copy of Joey Gee. I thought great I'll have to stop at a cash machine in order to pay him. He said it was for him and not for me. I wasn't too sure if he was joking or not. The journey back I kept saying you got it for me did'nt you. He just laughed. As I dropped him off last, I thought he is going to say here you are, take it, I was having you on. No he kept it! Because of this memory I hate the record now and never want to own one now! Louis
  25. I echo the above from Chalky and wish all involved tomorrow an enjoyable and worthwhile time for themselves and the MacMillan charity. What music or artists are appropriate for tomorrow?? "Ping went the strings", Willie TEE, A SLICE of the pie, PUTT that woman down, CHIP Tyler, Lady in GREEN There must be more.......................... Louis
