  1. RE. Vise-chocolate mama records. I don't think it was ian clark who scratched the address off the initial batch. Yes, ian did eventually track down the owner of the record and managed to get an unknown quantity of the 45 (with the PO Box label address) and ultimately got a bunch of re-issues made (copies without the label address) I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that the initial batch copies (i think from soul bowl) had a yellow coloured label, whereas the later copies were a peach coloured label? (both assumed to be original, as both had the PO Box 394 address) Both copies had the same label typeface and stamps in the dead wax.
  2. getting plays at the 100 club.
  3. More very average gospel; i personally cant do with religious lyrics within corrupting the scene's music.

  14. There was a look-a-like bootleg on the yellow seventy 7 label. This particular bootleg has a slightly wider dead wax and has 77-104-B (in large typeface) and ss-108 (in small typeface) It also has a very small matrix. The original has only the ss-108 (small typeface) and the matrix in the deadwax. Also the music publisher is different; original has 'three cheers music, ascap' whereas the bootleg has 'cape ann music, inc' And finally, the typeface on the label looks faded too.
  15. I found 200 copies in a record shop in the late 8ts. I left 100 behind, thinking that they were hard to move (as they were then, even at £4) I know there were a few blue label copies in there, but at the time i didn't realise that they were a different version. Initially, I used to ask anyone who wanted to buy a copy, 'which colour label they wanted' It really was a different collectors scene then.
  16. Never seen the release on eEe 0070 with 'aware of love' and 'wish you didn't have to leave' Only seen: 'just crazy 'bout you baby' and 'aware of love' I have seen release: eEe 0069 'wish you didn't have to go' with flip 'we've come a long way together' Also using the same release number (eEe 0069) the following 45 was issued: 'just crazy bot you baby' and flip 'we've come a long way together' Do you have any scans or further details of your input?

  20. JA sent me another US digging story: STEVE G MENTIONED TONY WILSON COLLECTING NEW ORLEANS LABELS.IT BROUGHT BACK A LOT OF MEMORIES FOR ME AS IT WAS A FANTASTIC PLACE TO FIND SOUL RECORDS.I HIT ALL THE MOM AND POP STORES/ONE STOPS ETC.EDDIE THREEWAY WAS MY MAIN MAN–HE WAS A DJ AND ALSO HAD A TV SHOW SO ANY ARTIST WANTING EXPOSURE GAVE HIM RECORDS TO PROMOTE–––FOR INSTANCE WHEN LARRY WILLIAMS AND JOHNNY WATSON CAME THROUGH TOWN THEY ALWAYS DROPPED OFF 200 OF THEIR LATEST RELEASE SO IT WAS A GOLDMINE OF SOUL MUSIC–––IT WAS ALSO THE ONLY STORE WHERE YOU COULD TAKE A LEAK AND THE BATHROOM WAS LINED WITH SHELVES STACKED WITH RECORD BOXES.THAT'S HOW WE GOT THE FIRST 50 COUNT BOX OF RUFUS WOOD-2001–I WAS PEEING AND LOOKING AT RECORDS AT THE SAME TIME!I USED TO SPEND A WEEK AT A TIME THERE AND ON SUNDAY THAT'S WHEN PEOPLE FROM THE COUNTRY CAME TO TOWN––EDDIE WOULD ORDER FRIED CHICKEN PLATTERS FROM THE LOCAL CHURCH GROUP AND SAY TO ME GO GET ME 25 COPIES OF A BLUES RECORD–LOWELL FULSOM/JUNIOR PARKER ETC. AND HE'D SAY WATCH THIS–HE HAD AN OLD BATTERED TURNTABLE AND SPEAKERS IN THE STREET––WITHIN A MINUTE OF PUTTING THE 45 ON THE DECK,WE HAD A LINE OF PEOPLE COMING IN THE STORE –WE WANT THAT TUNE!–A MASTER SALESMAN––THAT'S WHERE WE GOT GEORGE PEPP/TOMMY RIDGLEY ON INTERNATIONAL CITY ETC.IN THE END A HURRICANE CAME THROUGH AND DESTROYED A LOT OF THE REMAINING STOCK.LASTLY SOMETIMES YOU FIND A TITLE BY COMPLETE CHANCE–NOT FAR FROM EDDIE'S WAS AN OLD RECORD STORE THAT WAS CLOSED UP,IT ALWAYS FASCINATED ME EACH TIME I DROVE BY,SO EVENTUALLY WE TRACKED DOWN THE LANDLORD AND GOT THE KEY.THE RACKS STILL LINED THE WALLS,THE COUNTER WAS STILL THERE BUT THE RECORDS WERE GONE APART FROM A 100 RECORD BOX SITTING ON THE COUNTER.IT MADE ALL THE EFFORT WORTHWHILE–IT WAS A 100 COPIES OF TY KARIM LIGHTEN UP BABY ON CARAMEL!!!!!!I STILL WONDER WHAT MUST HAVE BEEN IN THE STORE WHEN IT WAS IN OPERATION. JUST ANOTHER STORY–JOHN And some more Soulbowl lists:
  21. Great contribution!!
  22. gixen and goofbay have let me down a number of times. Usually, there is a reason stated why the snipe failed; something like, i didn't satisfy the sellers criteria. Strange, in that the same seller accepted some other bids during the same auction? Goofbay actually apologised after investigating the issue of why a bunch of snipes failed. In my experience the failure rate is almost 5%, but recently it is something like 10%
  23. I agree Andy, the purple text on white label is a reissue. The green label is the original.
