Female Songs Or Male Songs
I don’t think I’d like to hear a female cover of any of Clarence Reids “Blowfly” songs.

Disco
Thought Life on Mars was originally a 7" and LP cut and then retrospectively released as a UK 12" long after the Disco boom years.

The Best Packaged Record I've Ever Received
I've received a record from the US in similar boxed packaging, but it was also packed tightly with lots of those polystyrene fillers or whatever they're called. No opening instructions though.

Buddy Lamp - Double L - Which Came First
As with a few Liberty distributed things, there's another one w/d same style as 2/3 which says "Audition Copy" rather than DJ... so I would have thought version 2/3 could be first. Or it could be a case of someone at a different pressing plant getting fancy with the label as there's also a white/black demo of the top design.

Syl Johnson - Goodie Goodie Good Times - Jap P Vine/shama Lp
Condition in M- for record, cover & obi strip. Might consider one with cover in lesser condition or without the Obi, but would pay less for those. PM me with your condition & price. Please, no requests for offers as you may be disappointed. Cheers, John

Manship's Price Guide - 6Th Edition
I've never been a fan of going on about having to graft for 40 years on the Northern Scene, to allow you to be inducted into the "Inner circle” of record buying. Are you saying that if you haven’t grafted for 40 years you’re not entitled to the buy a record at the same price as someone who has and that people who have are entitled to shaft people who haven’t?

Import Duty
I bought a record from a seller on Ebay who in the item description stated that he would only declare the full value of each item sold on the custmes docket. So as the records was about £150, I had an expection of a customs charge. Lo and behold along came the record with a declared value of $10, I was quite happy about that.

Manship's Price Guide - 6Th Edition
I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this view of the guide. People have mentioned the time and effort needed to compile and document this guide, well I think that's in material as I'm not convinced that much manual effort goes into creating it, outside of John just running his day to day business. John, like with the majority of retailers will have computer based stock inventory system which sits on top of something like a SQL or Oracle database and is one of the reasons you can buy and pay on-line. The information in the book is just a simple query from that database. This database would also be used as a starting point for valuing his stock as he'd need that for insurance purposes and when generating turnover and other information for year-end accounts. So for me the price guide is just another way of squeezing as much value out of his business as possible and if I was in his shoes so would I, as its just good business sense. People also say we know the prices are out of line, well I've never thought that's an acceptable argument as people are paying £30 for this book which isn't cheap and it is sold as “a price guide”, so should really be in-line with reality. Otherwise its just an incomplete artist discography book and we know there are more complete discographies on the internet that people can access for free.

Ace / Kent Single Of The Month
Paul, If its the Dan Penn release your talking about, I believe its the November release so probably hitting your doormat today. I think Uptight Good Woman is a fantastic version and should be in every household.

Import Duty
And here is where I think the rub is.... Of the £11.69 charge. £3.69 has to be claimed back from HMRC by filling out this form. Customs+Duty+and_or+import+VAT1.pdf And then you have to contact Royal Mail to argue about the £8 handling charge. More trouble than its worth, I feel.

Import Duty
So they've even though its marked as a gift and below the £40 value celing, they have deemed it to have come from a commercial transaction and therefore charged me VAT. What a bugger........
