  1. Of the tracks above, these ones (I believe) were current or in-the-can Sound Town re-recordings used when the box set was created. 67. Soul Children - I'll be the other woman — is a solo reworking by Shelbra Deane 65. Sam and Dave - You got me hummin' — is a reworking by J Blackfoot 76. William Bell - Lovin' on borrowed time — is a reworked duet by J Blackfoot & Shelbra Deane A great piece of Memphis music history
  2. Go on, you don't need it. £25 + 6 eggs from my neighbour’s chickens + my daughter’s old riding boots size 13
  3. Do you mean label variations as I thought they were all the same recordings? If so, I know of three: Yellow issue, W/D of yellow layout and a white label with Ladera in green arched letters in a yellow box. Boy I am slow in typing....
  4. This one? Theres some more details on Grand Prix here: https://www.bsnpubs.c.../grandprix.html
  5. Never knew issue copies existed, would love to get my hands on one of those. Picture anyone?
  6. It's an okay funky type dancer similar to a lot of run of the mill tunes of the time, but nothing compared to the flip. That side hasnt spent much time "needle side up" in my house.
  7. I don’t think I’d like to hear a female cover of any of Clarence Reids “Blowfly” songs.
  8. Definitely when you consider someone paid over $400 for it on eBay (from John Anderson) less than a month ago
  9. From memory the 12" is a longer cut than the 7"
  10. John Reed replied to Barry's topic in Look At Your Box
Thought Life on Mars was originally a 7" and LP cut and then retrospectively released as a UK 12" long after the Disco boom years.
  11. Unless it got released as a single somewhere outside of the US, its LP only
  12. I've received a record from the US in similar boxed packaging, but it was also packed tightly with lots of those polystyrene fillers or whatever they're called. No opening instructions though.
  13. As with a few Liberty distributed things, there's another one w/d same style as 2/3 which says "Audition Copy" rather than DJ... so I would have thought version 2/3 could be first. Or it could be a case of someone at a different pressing plant getting fancy with the label as there's also a white/black demo of the top design.
  14. I'm with you on this one Bob, was quite a pleasent surprise when I played the Kent CD.
  15. Condition in M- for record, cover & obi strip. Might consider one with cover in lesser condition or without the Obi, but would pay less for those. PM me with your condition & price. Please, no requests for offers as you may be disappointed. Cheers, John
  16. This CD is made from his Tortoise sessions with only the single being released at the time.
  17. Ivor, It was nice having the brief catch up last week. Will it be available as a download of podcast as I can't listen live tonight? Cheers, John
  18. I've never been a fan of going on about having to graft for 40 years on the Northern Scene, to allow you to be inducted into the "Inner circle” of record buying. Are you saying that if you haven’t grafted for 40 years you’re not entitled to the buy a record at the same price as someone who has and that people who have are entitled to shaft people who haven’t?
  19. I posted Stormy Love Affair in my Youtube channel a while back and on Saturday, someone with an ID of rojeio posted "I miss you dad r.i.p." which I thought was really sad.
  20. try this link
  21. I bought a record from a seller on Ebay who in the item description stated that he would only declare the full value of each item sold on the custmes docket. So as the records was about £150, I had an expection of a customs charge. Lo and behold along came the record with a declared value of $10, I was quite happy about that.
  22. It one of the many sad stories of people losing their homes and livelihoods
  23. The "soul" lover in me, tells me that I should hate it, but I don't and I think its a great tune. I've outed myself, so its no longer my guilty secret.
  24. I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this view of the guide. People have mentioned the time and effort needed to compile and document this guide, well I think that's in material as I'm not convinced that much manual effort goes into creating it, outside of John just running his day to day business. John, like with the majority of retailers will have computer based stock inventory system which sits on top of something like a SQL or Oracle database and is one of the reasons you can buy and pay on-line. The information in the book is just a simple query from that database. This database would also be used as a starting point for valuing his stock as he'd need that for insurance purposes and when generating turnover and other information for year-end accounts. So for me the price guide is just another way of squeezing as much value out of his business as possible and if I was in his shoes so would I, as its just good business sense. People also say we know the prices are out of line, well I've never thought that's an acceptable argument as people are paying £30 for this book which isn't cheap and it is sold as “a price guide”, so should really be in-line with reality. Otherwise its just an incomplete artist discography book and we know there are more complete discographies on the internet that people can access for free.
