  1. Well, with these two there is no doubt Here's the Mamie Lee LP ... ... and on a Hard drive somewhere I have a private photo of Tobbi Bowe , also a black artist. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  2. Which of course leads us to "Abstract Reality" / "Love Burns Like A Fire" Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  3. Tobbi Bowe , always thought she sounded white. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  4. Thats probably the version I was on about earlier - Seem to remember quite a few "different" takes of classics on this CD - Chuck Jackson / Got the Need, and a version of "You Didn't Say A Word" which was completely different to the 3 known versions - could even have been a modern day re-recordings. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  5. Also if your gonna pull it from auction, do so PDQ. I think there is a time limit on closing an auction (12 hours or more?) or is that just modifying an auction ? - may pay to check with only 17 hours to go.
  6. Just found the original webpage https://gadgets.qj.net/How-to-Pirate-a-Viny...pg/49/aid/39381 Can't see anyone actually attempting this with anything woth more than a fiver, which kind of defeats the object doesn't it. Wonder if someone would lend me a Junior McCants for a couple of days ...
  7. Machine stamped characters, are different and probably could be replicated today - Columbia carried on using the ZTSP type stampers well into the eighties, hence all the CSP reissues that carried genuine masterings. Handwritten etchings are done quite easily really. Once the acetate is recorded, the recording engineer will pick up a scriber and carefully write the required notations into the run-out. This is where the theory of a Perfect Fake goes out the window. If the matrix required is , for example 1001 - A , then this is what the engineer will write with a scribing tool - IN HIS OWN HANDWRITING. If you sit down with a sheet of paper and write out 1001 - A a thousand times, no two will be the same, it is not possible, so to expect someone to replicate another persons Matrix, or handwriting is beyond reason. Also, replication of the scroll in and out would be "almost" impossible to replicate. The only way to replicate a vinyl record perfectly is to look at it from a different ange, and don't go anywhere near a disc cutter or recording lab. The was a webpage up a few years ago the used the "Mission Impossible Face Mask" principle. There are flaws in this theory, however the basic principle is as follows. Cover one side of your "original" with a quick drying liquid - peel of when set (this gives you a negative), then repeat for other side. Then (and this is where it get a bit vague) sandwich another liquid vinyl (???) between your two negatives, allow to set and remove your negatives leaving a playable Positive with two sides, matrix, etchings all as original. That's the principle, however the reality is probably still a bit "Mission Impossible" Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  8. The Year by Year Cd was the first time the ALT version appeared, about 1995/96 or so - Chris King used to hammer it in that period. I got myself an acetate cut and also "hammered it". However, the UK Tamla Motown Issue in the 45th Anniversary Box Set from about 5 years ago used this Alternate version aswell (It is the same as Chalkys Clip) - It's the one with Chris clark on the flip, list number 9821530 - One of these singles should cost you no more than a fiver - still plenty about on eBay etc. Just to throw a spanner in the works, there is a third version of it, which appeared on a compilation CD about 6 years ago - Don't know the details, I was in my friends car and out came a CDR of "Classic Northern", and at some point along came Frank, completely different to the Standard 35019 /TMG 1170 , and the aformentioned "Alt" on UK Tamla 9821530. Just a thought , has anyone heard the "Soul" boots that appeared with the Originals / Suspicion Vocal/ Inst ? - I know Suspicion was a completely different version to the 3 others, and the instrumental was a re-recording, in the "Don't Pretend" sense of the word. I wonder if this press of Frank Wilson is the third version - Never had a copy so don't know. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  9. Thought we'd worked this one out last week , still seems a bit of confusion Anyone have definitive release dates? Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  10. Clary Hardy is an obvious one and maybe the Four Tracks, but don't know the supposed quantity of FT, and it is not in the same "availability" league as Royal Esquires, EJ Chandler, Clara Hardy etc - or is it? On the EJ Chandler, yes it is a genuine Sixties release. I think the key to that was not so much a lot of copies turning up in later years, more like loads of copies turning up as an "unknown" in the 1978-ish period. - It wasn't too long before Soul Bowl let copies go out for normal prices. Just thought of another "Monster Rarity" that, again, was never rare, but controlled to create an apparent rarity, and that was Larry Houston HFMP Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  11. Afraid to say its not even a 1979 release - this is one of the many re-re-issues from RCA in the mid 80's Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  12. Hello I've just made an html file for Johns Auctions. This works perfectly with IE7 , can't say regarding other browsers. I've modified the one in the earlier post - it now has buttons to go back / forwards in steps of 1 ,10, 50, 100 I may add more increments, but that should be enough - it won't give items prior to the first one ( 154 ) , but obviously it will give null items if you go beyond the current item number ( just under 3500 at the moment ). Before I put it up, does anyone think John himself would mind ?? If someone could point John in the direction of this post, and if he has no objections, then I'll put the link up. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  13. Impossible - Pep would NEVER pay THAT Much for a record
  14. It was released as The Detroit Magnificents (Grapevine a couple of years ago) Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  15. Hello, Got one right now on my site (bargains under a fiver) - I think its 3 quid in Vg cond if you go here ... https://northern-soul-records.com you should be able to find it. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  16. I once had an Inez & Charlie Foxx / Tightrope on a Euro label with a very similar loss of half the mix. As with SOS, it sounded so different it sounded like a completely different recording, Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  17. I'd rather go round and sell him some records at HIS prices Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  18. Yes - this one is a boot. The only real "italic" ones are the Yellow and Blue copies as detailed in above postings. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  19. Betty must have got her own grandchildren in as backing noise, before she finished the recording and went off to school herself.
  20. I saw Neil Rushton last night, he'd seen this thread and told me he had one. - Then in a flash of revelation, I asked him if it was Clive Jones' old copy - He said yes, it was from his collection when it was sold. I don't know why I had forgotten Clive had one in the 1980 period, but that's the way it is sometimes. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  21. Thanks for that - It's pretty much as I thought, although it wasn't just the obvious song, but the other Columbia records by her that I've never seen. Again , She must habe been very unlucky to have never had a release on that label. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  22. Anyone know anything ??? Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  23. Hello, Here's a question for you "stock" copy experts. Has anyone ever seen a US Columbia Red Stock copy of ANYTHING by Dana Valery. We all know she had a handful of recordings for the label, and we all see so many white radio station copies of all of them - "Interest" / "You" / "Zabadack" etc., but did ANY of her records actually hit the streets in the US (OR Canada ???) - Must have been very unlucky if not. Just incase a load of you come up with info about the red Columbia Special Products 70's reissue that's not what I mean. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
  24. Is there a BM ??? number in the run out groove ? Also, is the flip side the same as Andee release Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
