Frank Wilson
The Year by Year Cd was the first time the ALT version appeared, about 1995/96 or so - Chris King used to hammer it in that period. I got myself an acetate cut and also "hammered it". However, the UK Tamla Motown Issue in the 45th Anniversary Box Set from about 5 years ago used this Alternate version aswell (It is the same as Chalkys Clip) - It's the one with Chris clark on the flip, list number 9821530 - One of these singles should cost you no more than a fiver - still plenty about on eBay etc. Just to throw a spanner in the works, there is a third version of it, which appeared on a compilation CD about 6 years ago - Don't know the details, I was in my friends car and out came a CDR of "Classic Northern", and at some point along came Frank, completely different to the Standard 35019 /TMG 1170 , and the aformentioned "Alt" on UK Tamla 9821530. Just a thought , has anyone heard the "Soul" boots that appeared with the Originals / Suspicion Vocal/ Inst ? - I know Suspicion was a completely different version to the 3 others, and the instrumental was a re-recording, in the "Don't Pretend" sense of the word. I wonder if this press of Frank Wilson is the third version - Never had a copy so don't know. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Look At Your Box
Clary Hardy is an obvious one and maybe the Four Tracks, but don't know the supposed quantity of FT, and it is not in the same "availability" league as Royal Esquires, EJ Chandler, Clara Hardy etc - or is it? On the EJ Chandler, yes it is a genuine Sixties release. I think the key to that was not so much a lot of copies turning up in later years, more like loads of copies turning up as an "unknown" in the 1978-ish period. - It wasn't too long before Soul Bowl let copies go out for normal prices. Just thought of another "Monster Rarity" that, again, was never rare, but controlled to create an apparent rarity, and that was Larry Houston HFMP Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Am I Wrong To Let This Bother Me?
Afraid to say its not even a 1979 release - this is one of the many re-re-issues from RCA in the mid 80's Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

John Manship Auction
Hello I've just made an html file for Johns Auctions. This works perfectly with IE7 , can't say regarding other browsers. I've modified the one in the earlier post - it now has buttons to go back / forwards in steps of 1 ,10, 50, 100 I may add more increments, but that should be enough - it won't give items prior to the first one ( 154 ) , but obviously it will give null items if you go beyond the current item number ( just under 3500 at the moment ). Before I put it up, does anyone think John himself would mind ?? If someone could point John in the direction of this post, and if he has no objections, then I'll put the link up. Alternative Version Of Edwin Starr's "stop Her On Sight"
I once had an Inez & Charlie Foxx / Tightrope on a Euro label with a very similar loss of half the mix. As with SOS, it sounded so different it sounded like a completely different recording, Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Is This The Worst Backing Singer Ever?
Betty must have got her own grandchildren in as backing noise, before she finished the recording and went off to school herself.

Dana Valery - Red Columbia Stock Copy
I saw Neil Rushton last night, he'd seen this thread and told me he had one. - Then in a flash of revelation, I asked him if it was Clive Jones' old copy - He said yes, it was from his collection when it was sold. I don't know why I had forgotten Clive had one in the 1980 period, but that's the way it is sometimes. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Dana Valery - Red Columbia Stock Copy
Thanks for that - It's pretty much as I thought, although it wasn't just the obvious song, but the other Columbia records by her that I've never seen. Again , She must habe been very unlucky to have never had a release on that label. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Dana Valery - Red Columbia Stock Copy
Hello, Here's a question for you "stock" copy experts. Has anyone ever seen a US Columbia Red Stock copy of ANYTHING by Dana Valery. We all know she had a handful of recordings for the label, and we all see so many white radio station copies of all of them - "Interest" / "You" / "Zabadack" etc., but did ANY of her records actually hit the streets in the US (OR Canada ???) - Must have been very unlucky if not. Just incase a load of you come up with info about the red Columbia Special Products 70's reissue that's not what I mean. Run Like The Devil
Here' a scan of the Bobby Vee LP Track listing which confirms the writers as in previous posts I seem to remember the whole LP was Blue Eyed Soul - His version of "Let Nobody Love You" is worth a listen to. The Four Tops medley on Side 2 was actually booted on a 45 by Simon Soussan as the "Detroit Shakers" , a name he used more than once or twice for "cover-up" artists (The two Capitol tracks spring to mind). Nice "originals" On Ebay
15 "Original" Northern Soul Records for sale on eBay https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=120275611342 The seller had been asked if they are original releases, and he has confirmed they are .... So "that's a good deal" (As Hannibal Heys used to say). Wonder how much this little lot will go for - It only takes two bidders Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Ebay - Something Dodgy Going On
Pete, I think it's just a glitch - My instance a few days ago was that MyeBay told me "my Paypal payment has been refunded" - which was moments after winning an item, I hadn't paid anything at this point - I did check Paypal and nothing was there, my balance was correct - and still is. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Tina Mason
Thought I heard somewhere that, although Tina Mason and Judy Street are not the same person, the photographs used for Tina's Capitol LP were actually photos of Judy Street - some mix up in the promotions department. Might be all pie in the sky though. Cheers Mick Holdsworth https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Skiing In The Snow.....instrumental
I don't think it was ever issued - when W-O was recorded, Russ had an inst mix put on to an acetate for his own use - might have be some other acetates at the same time floating about, but I only remember Russ playing it. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk

Skiing In The Snow.....instrumental
I'm afraid it does exist - Unfortunately it's not the Dynovoice track, but the Wigans Ovalteenies backing that became an occasional play for Russ W. Cheers Mick https://northern-soul-records.com https://motownsound.co.uk
