  1. keele was my first all-nigheter venue that got me into this scene. I missed what were probably the best years but still had some good times there. It was all new to me at the time so the oldies and any more recent plays just all blended into one.
  2. Never went out of style at my house. Well at least some of them anyway. only yesterday gave jackie montre el "doomed by jealousy" a spin. also looking forward to the return into fashion of mid tempo as well.
  3. thats interesting regarding sound plus being reissues I always assumed they were boots. I ended up with a couple of sam bakers and a jimmy church all that should have been on SS7 and filed them away in the bootleg box.
  4. I will continue to try and find the good rare records that go unwanted or have a lack of interest buts its not easy. one thing about this game i've found is that a logical analysis of things is just a waste of time.
  5. if I ever get to be super wealthy I would probably be happy to spend over the odds fro those great but not always rare records that floated my boat. as thats unlikely to happen i'll continue to buy a few bits here and there on ebay. bob its unlikely people will have everythgin except the ultra rarities as its a bottomless pit of 45s. I'm happy now juts buying cheap things I don't already know. I don;t realy chase rarities anymore unless they are under market value.
  6. more reading on Johns site regarding Mr Tears (Paris) https://www.sirshambling.com/artists_2012/T/mr_tears/index.php and he wrote a robbie williams song
  7. fully looking forward to a full weekend of partying then a virus knocked me off my feet. but not before the do in petebrough on friday night. 1st visit decent little venue and good playlists from all DJs gary spencer and kev draper and mr fortnum played the best spots for me. the "grab it grab it" record 1st time i've heard that a what a great uptempo 60s along with the version of "respect" also fabtastic. after that I managed a pub lunch yestreday and that was it back to work...... ho hum.
  8. you might be surpised what got booted in holland as some very common records did.
  9. with 2 days to go the current price wouldn't be too much of a suprise. I don't know if this is real or not but I wouldn't let the price put me off.
  10. would like to hear the flip if anybody has a clip.
  11. try explaining that to somebody who isn't involved with the soul scene.
  12. this is a funny one as if the one record you are selling the person is going to make or break their weekend DJ spot
  13. I don't agree with this completely but I understand the sentiment. but records that look bad i.e vg visually can play very well. it depends how much the grading is on the visual conditiion of the record compared to how it sounds. the opposite of this is also true records that look great Ex can sound realy bad.
  14. the flip is also very good.
  15. i've got a version of sugarman by somebody else (buddy grubbs I think ?) it might be the same song ? I bought that record for the other side and never realy found much in sugerman when i've given it the odd spin. my best blind buy has to be marcus daniel on plaza after already knowing his monkey town release I took a punt on it and it was a fantastic double sider. I've since read it was a fame recording.
  16. I agree if you been easily able to pick up a record for a certain price and now its a lot more its hard to part with the money. its all relative to when you got to know the record I guess. things like enchaters on faro were 40 or 50 quid when I got mine then it went up a bit so I sold it. Now its 150 or even over 200 ?? i'm more interested in looking for odd ball and lesser known stuff now and rarely get excited about things that already command a premium through being well known. the one I sold that does occasionally niggle me is buddy cantrell on tuska.
  17. i'm sure if I went on youtube or other sites i'd find most of the sam bakers i've just bought but there is something about putting the needle down on a record not knowing what its going to be like. saying that I hardly ever do and it never do it when a lot of money is involved.
  18. at least who ever buys it will end up with a top draw record that is a total classic and one of the best oldies there is.
  19. i've just bought 5 sam baker records on sound plus and aound stage blind for a couple of euros each. none are rare or expensive records and all well known but quite a few titles i'vew not heard yet so i'm hoping to have a few pleasent suprises.
  20. its even been on a Tim Brown millionaires CD so its not as if most people won't know how good it is as well ? would the fact its been on a big selling CD put some people off spending this sort of cash ?
  21. yes I am sure you will do well. the soul scene is full of old farts whose kids are probably not at school anymore so they don't have to pay through the nose for expensive summer holidays in august
  22. august is probably even tougher than june IMO thats when most go away for summer holiday. School holidays etc etc. anyway sorry to hear this i'm sure the next one will be as good as ever and well attended after the extended break.
  23. not too surpising its gone to Japan. I missed the boat on this record.
  24. yes I need to get to one of these nights the playlists always look right up my street.
