  1. There's a terrific, stomping track (Coming to you) on the new Jill Scott album.
  2. Cats provide good scale!
  3. Probably been done before but some big soulful wood carving from the canal near Pennington Flash.... Carcassonne Castle.
  4. This fella successfully nested in my garden earlier in the summer.
  5. That Ike & Tina poster is just beautiful!
  6. I enjoyed this thread. Bit surprised this early Bowie effort's not had a mention. I love it.
  7. Erm..... thanks for sharing. Putting warnings on only encourages idiots like me, I won't ever play the inst again.
  8. Looking forward to the new album very much. I go to see Stone Foundation whenever I can. They are superb live.
  9. Hmmm! Risky place to be buying property. The Detroit average property price has fallen by 50% in the last ten years. Average sale price for 2015 is about $32,000. Even if it's in a very nice part of town, I think I'd pass. Unless, of course, there is a big record collection he left behind in the cellar.
  10. I wouldn't go anywhere near it but I think it's a good thing more young people are listening to quality soul music and if this encourages some of them to progress to coming to nights where they can hear the real thing on the original format then that's great. We have to be realistic, we're a bit dinosaur like in the eyes of some young uns. I'd much prefer kids to get into the music this way than not at all.
  11. It's a great comp but to be fair it's a available for £7 on Discogs.
  12. Thanks for posting. Really enjoyed this, these are a proper snapshot of a moment in time for the NS scene. Pete's pre-internet era knowledge of the details of label releases was brilliant!
  13. Nature reserve at Lagoa dos Salgados on the Algarve. These are birds
  14. Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere: Thursday 16 July 2015 8:15 PM at The Bridgewater Hall
  15. I'd quite like it to include the slightly different mix of A Thrill a Moment that was on the 2005 Kim Weston Anthology.

Billy's voice has been a constant presence through my 40+ years of loving soul music. I've always had a particular soft spot for I'll Bet You. I am so sorry to hear he is so unwell. God bless.

    Signed.
  18. I can't choose between Rare, Collectible and Soulful vol 1 and Sock it to 'em Soul
  19. I always thought they did the infamous unrated video of Blurred Lines in an attempt to distract from the blatant plagiarism they had perpetrated.
  20. Tesco's in Stretford had big floorstanding, wire bins of 45's in 72/73 for 10p. Hard to sift through! Lots of blue Stax and Mirwood. I was on a quid a week from my paper round and for some time, Tesco got all my money.
  21. I don't mind, I don't have to watch them if I don't want to. I do get fed up of having to move away from the number of people taking photos / videos at some nights. Particularly the semi-pro types with their huge lenses, lights and stuff going on down at floor level. I don't want to be filmed. I want to be left to dance (increasingly badly) in peace.
  22. This has got me completely puzzled. I absolutely, clearly remember buying the MfP album because there was no other way to get the track. Very odd!
  23. Shirley Brown - It Ain't No Fun Solomon Burke - Cry To Me Solomon Burke - Hanging Up My Heart For You Sam Dees - After All Bobby Patterson - If He Hadn't Slipped Up And Got Caught Bettye Swann - Be Strong Enough To Hold On Pass the kleenex
  24. Well........you are entitled to your opinion, but the vast majority of folk on here who commented at the time of release seemed to think it was far from predictable and not at all stereotypical. Personally, the resonance with my life in the mid 70's was astonishing. I don't think anyone would have predicted quite how dark and gritty Elaine made elements of the film. It was a creation of great joy for me. And.....have you seen soulboy? or are you taking the piss?
  25. That's a superb read Lorraine and Dave, thank you very much. I just love Maxine's voice. It's hard to credit that she didn't get the break her talent merited.
