  1. Hi Alison There the ones, with perhaps a few of the others including the Motown weekender hopefully. Dave
  2. Still have some unsold Official t shirts and patches/ badges of this event somewhere sealed and packed away, another job to do when I reach those boxes, list them up and put them up for sale, far too many acts live to pick real favourites but Maxine Brown at Cleggy and 100 club will stay with me till the day I die. throw in , Barry White, Debbie Taylor, The Dells, Sam Dees, Gerald Alston and David Peaston, Prince Phillip Mitchell, Jesse James, Terry Callier, Randy Brown, Ben E King, Richard Caiton, et al. I have been really fortunate to of seen so many live acts it seems a shame to list them in any order really, Dave H.
  3. Good gracious, in Part 4, that's Pablo and Simon Small in the white shirts at the front of the screen! Amazing to see them again.
  4. You couldn't break that record on any scene...........you could lift it to drop it!
  5. The Unicorn Club.............great people, great music, and records at a price you could afford, certainly boosted my collection from the dealers selling there. I remember Mick Smith banging on about The Dells "Thinkin about you" way way before it was really accepted and him selling me a copy and saying if you don't like it you can give it me back! Still got it! Cheers Mick. It is hard to believe how many faces and friends are still on the scene........some still with hair. I have some photos of this era somewhere, must dig them out. Dave H.
  6. Heavens above Mark. Your buying music on vinyl????? Does that mean I m not a dinosaur any more? Or that you've now joined the endangered species list. Keep smiling mate it's gonna be a long season.............but not as long as waiting for you to buy me a drink at Cleggy Dave H
  7. Hi Glyn I'm totally with you on this one, can't for the life of me think, why (a) someone wants to buy these tracks when they can dig out a legit copy for about the same outlay and (b) who are these people buying them? Hope they not newbies to the record world and thinking they getting something special/rare? Having a carver of an unreleased track or a CD only track I can understand, but this is beyond normal reasoning. Can under stand the sellers reasoning , he's making easy money and suspect (who ever they are) must have his own machine for knocking them up as carvers aren't cheap to have made! Besides being illegal (akin to bootlegging), the only way of stopping it, as Ebay doesn't seem to want to know, is to shop them to the record/ label owners. While it might be small potatoes to most, I am sure they would take a very dim view of it, if not put the legal eagles on the case. It has been bad enough hearing the stories from artists over the years being fleeced by label owners (large well known ones and indies) with legit releases and not receiving any royalties but this is the pits. Does anybody know who they are????? Dave
  8. Priceless!!!!! would make a great script for a Mr Bean short film.
  9. Still looking for these 2 45s, come on at least one of you must have one gathering dust ????. pretty please!!!!,!,
  10. Looking for these 2 45s Electrostats - 21st Century Kenya James Booker - Next time you see me. Please let me know condition and price? Cheers Dave
  11. Yeah my copy is UK with push out centre. Not sure how true this anecdote is, but back when it was released It was suggested that the label Gaiee was created specifically by Motown for this release in case it back fired on them by having a "gay" record on the label. Nothing else ever came out on it as far as I am aware and if my memory serves me right it got some spins on the Northern/Modern scene? Dave.
  12. Ivor Hope your well. Your probably spot on the price for the single, so IMHO it's not a wild guess. Yeah remember him at Southport dress in white robes, turban and jeweled up before bling was fashionable mate.
  13. Dave pretty certain it's Henry Atkinson, he's always been great when I have had stuff, both in prices and condition. not bought off him via Gemm though, so it may be its old or defunct list and he's not updated it?????? I know a few sellers have binned Gemm because of charges, payments delays etc Dave H

Happy New Year Dave. glad you still have it.........but it's about time you sell it to me mate, can also remember along with "House be the side of the road" and Mr Havens "I gotta go" me being about the only one on the dance floor getting in the groove Dave H
  16. Happy New & Soulful year to all Well Sean you seem to of brought out the best in the Soulies here mate................S.O.U.L. Sound Of Unity and Love Hows about you post last years suggestions up (as against 2007). and see how many made it, still remain to make it or remain rare/semi/unknown? I am pretty certain the depth and knowledge of collectors on here have more than a few tracks, even those semi known, that on the whole have still got to have their day even if known. I am not talking about old biggies/ semi known becoming popular again, but the little gems that you rate. A deep soul gem for me has been Walter Washington "The Sun don't shine" on 3 Oaks. Without blowing trumpets, played this last Soul Essence in Jim Wray Lounge and put it on a giveaway CD and it was received with mass acclaim if you count being asked about it, as Deep Soul goes. So if your into The slower stuff then check that out. Think its on my pod cast from radio show. Check 365soul.com on the radio show forum on here. Dave H
  17. Absolute musical genius, he is my all time favourite singer, songwriter, producer, label owner, would of loved to of met him as I have so many unanswered questions. Hope I'm going to the same place he has gone when it's my time, that would be a musical place to die for.
  18. Season greetings to all you Christian Soul loving Soulies! May all your vinyl dreams come true.............as long as I have acquired one first! What ever god you worship may they bless you. its been a good year my fellow soulies.........thank you for your friendship. Dave H.
  19. Kimbo Gutted for you mate and Lisa, your house was always welcoming and you boxes of tunes always open for viewing. Have you thought about tailoring human skin? if you need any "help" in persuading/re educating the guilty let me know, I know some real good teachers. It has been awhile since we last saw each other so hope you and Lisa are both well under this cloud. seasons greetings to you Dave H
  20. Just trim of the top of the paper sleeve and it should fit. I get mine from covers 33 and have always done this as well as cutting the top corners off so it fits in easier. Don't know why I have never bothered to find smaller ones? Dave
  21. Hi Steve This is thinking MANS Northern Soul............................ Not for women! lol. Hope your both well, might try and make Filthy be nice to catch up with each other........bit like our football teams!!!! Dave
  22. Richard I have done a few, but it takes time and a lot of patience and a keen eye! If some serious cleaning hasn't helped then its time for drastic measures! Basic equipment a very sharp scalpel and a micro modelling magnifying glass, which comprises of a small weighted stand, two crocodile clips on flexible arms and an adjustable magnifying glass. You put the record in the crocodile clips with some cloth between the clips and the record and where the scratch/jump is you place under the magnifying glass. The grooves come up like train tracks and you can actually see the problem. I.e like a small burr where the scratch has gone across the grooves. Now this is were patience and a keen eye comes in, using the scalpel very slowly trim the burr away. It's best to take a small nick off then play the record. If not successfully re clamp and shave a bit more off. Eventually you should ( if you don't take too much away) get the little bugger to play. There is usually a small amount of tick/sound but if the thing wouldn't play in the first place then no problem I have also done this on 45s/LPs where there is no scratch but just where the the grooves are pressed too close together and cause the needle to jump. Also try an old needle/stylus with some extra weight on the play end as this sometimes can "re groove" the offending area. Hope this of help. Dave Halsall
  23. I think there's a few soundalike group names..........seem to remember a Temp-ta-shuns? Some years back now so can't recall the label, might still have it somewhere gathering dust. Might be a good thread to start a soundalike groups? Dave
