I was told the Unlimited Four were from Toledo by someone else (they could have seen the same blog post but that looks pretty authentic). There were no good recording studios (for soul or rock music) in Toledo at the time so it makes sense they took the 1/2 hour drive to Detroit.

I'd say about $70-ish (or 40 quid) on the Ba-Roz. There are two pressings, one as the Ra-Boz (incorrect name) and the Ba-Roz. Other than the name, the records are identical.

I can account for about 12 copies of the record without much problem. That doesn't include the ones mentioned earlier, so that's 16- so the real total of copies is probably around 30, as I would never claim to have knowledge of every copy. It still turns up on occasion. My first copy I found at a garage sale around 1996, if anyone is keeping a time line.

I think there is some confusion in the similar titles. "I didn't know how to" is much cheaper than "I don't know about you". "I didn't know how to" has never sold for big $.

I still expect this to go for more than $2K. Based on what I've seen other rough copies of legendary record sell for, there are people who will spend money for this. It's listenable, might even sound OK when played at a club.

Thanks Pete, I take your word on that. I think here in the US the Gamble version is easier to find as Gamble was pretty well distributed compared to the Sassy version, of which more were exported to the UK than sold in the US.

I thought the Frankie Beverly record was about $250-$300 - is there something special about it or is this the standard Gamble version?

Here's a pic of the band. Probably a year or two after the 45. No way this record sells for $300 or 300 quid, the $150-ish price seems to be about right for a nice copy.

I bought a Willie Kendrick "Change Your Ways" listed as Willie Hendrick. I think I was the only bidder on a $99.99 start.

I agree with the Little Curtis value. Just about every copy has a little styrene noise, so VG copy probably sounds about the same as a M- one. It turns up here in the NW but they sell quickly. I sold the ones I had and would like to get it back.

Bill Moss didn't own the Prix / Harmonic Sounds operation. He did own Capsoul, the other Columbus soul label, as well as the predecessor label, Holiday. When he cut the "number one and "Sock it to me" records he was a DJ on the Columbus R&B radio station as well as being a leading figure in Columbus' African-American community. I might be able to dig up some old interviews with him if it helps. This is probably not new info but Bill Moss who cut gospel records (with the Celestials) is a different guy. I still haven't got my hands on the records.

Just sent one a couple weeks ago, registered. Cost about $25 - $26. It was $12+ for the shipping (first class international, the only choice, really), and $12+ extra for registered. Even though it's registered you can still declare low customs value for $10 as I did. Sorry I don't have the exact prices, a little digging on www.usps.com will give you that.

I have a few copies of different pressings of ER, some of them I got years ago, 20+ years ago. From the labels there are two pressings, one by Musicol in Columbus - those pressings are with the address and the number 1438 at about 10 oclock on the label (GIFY side). The dead wax should have the 1438 and the word Musicol in script. According to the logs from Musicol these were mastered/pressed around March 1970. The other pressing, the one without the address, has the number 26277 below the A side on the left side of the label, it does not have the 1438 number. These would be pressed by Rite in Cincinnati and should have the 26277 in the dead wax and the word Rite. According to the info I have these would date from around May 1970. It's possible that the Vegas boys took one or both of these versions and made a reproduction/boot/counterfeit/reissue of them. It would be interesting to see if the copies you all have match the descriptions. I can't access my records in the next day or so but when I do I will post what I have and the provenance behind them.

I have it, don't recall it being anything much, more garage-pop-soul. If you found the Timetakers on Audio Dynamics, I'll pay a few hundred $ for that.

Search Mad Mike Pittsburgh for the story about him.....very interesting.. Yeah, this is nothing more that taking a couple common issued records and making a one off dub for use either on radio or for mobile gigs since by the date on the record is years after these songs were originally released and the original records were out of print. The Triumphs song on the back is an early rock band from Columbus, OH which came out on a standard 45 about 6 years before the date. I've seen a few dozen similar dubs from the Pittsburgh area.

The band cited in the link is the band that made the acetate, confirmed by a band member. Most of the Charades were originally in the band Dick Whittingtons Cats, and were the band on the Bocky and the Visions 45s on Redda. The only other record by these Charades is a 45 on Epic "And You Do"/Somebodys Watching You" - the A side was a hit on Cleveland radio in the summer of 1970. The B side is another Sly/Family Stone cover.
