  1. Hi all, after many decades of following our music i feel it's now or never to start playing out the weird/wonderfull and the stuff we've been collecting and hiding away while we still can. The scene was/has been about breaking new tunes and we seem to be going away from that.So how about promoters adding NTL to their flyers and having the first hour set aside for just that? It may bring in more people that want to hear something new and even break tunes and stimulate the scene a bit, what's to loose-nothing ! After all most events start around getting the drinks in and chating anyway so your not going to scare them away[ i hope ] ps i'd prefer to hear lesser known dj's do this rather than millionaire soulies showing off,but that's just my opinion, what do you think?
  2. yea top man shane,"snakes with eyes of garnett" live is knockout,if that had been sung by a black soul singer in the sixties it would've been magic, but folk and country music is the white mans soul in effect, has anyone here seen johnny depps film about his life titled crock of gold? i ask because near the start he gets the hump with the questions and asks for some northern soul to be put on! obviously the muppet crew dont know what that is ,so he says motowm to them, guess depster knows what it is then, rip shane
  3. ha ! i've got one,not norv, but a great intro imo "church not built with hands" by the waterboys, have i broken the golden rule of not just liking soul ? hope not
  4. hi all ,yes this is the track i heard and thanks for your replies, having played it back at 1.25 on youtube i think it works better, nice to see quality "retro" soul being made
  5. hi all ,i heard this on some radio station recently, but i can't find it anywhere on the net-maybe because it's not out yet? it was imo a very good retro tune ,to put it mildly it sounded right out of the late 60t's,of cause i may not have the artists exact name, any info folks apreciated
  6. gloria jones- come go with me,matt black uptown ex mick webb. laniers-more than ever now, river city records. the exits-gotta have money, yellow gemini. rosco robinson-thats enough, wand. darleen carr-anybodys girl, white rca. della reese-a clock thats got no hands, black rca. superiors-what would i do,verve. dusty in new york ep with live it up,philips. bobby goldsboro spanish ep with its too late, utd artists. yvonne baker-i cant change, junior, all play well, can send photos
  7. superb work a must have for the scene, maybe we should make may the 4th [may the north] be with you day too !
  8. brilliant night everything was right-tunes ,crowd, venue, well worth going
  9. last event was superb, loads there, great floor and venue[doesnt look much outside but inside !!] the playlists were spot on,kev such and terry etc playing inspiring new to me tunes, not your usual moldy oldies event, tho obviously there were some, just what the scene needs and has been waiting for for too long, will be going to as many as they can run there, cant recommend enough
  10. anyone know if the crossfire allnighters on on october?
  11. hell of a shame, sean was a true soulie and a kindred soul in all ways with me ,huge loss ,rest in peace brother
  12. superb event as the soul scene should be
  13. Hi,i've been into the devils music for far too long and like some i'm bored to death with the same oldies/top 500.I realize there's less of us now going and promoters want to get people in,but surely we can do with fresher playlists?- not just the family favorites/hits on northern soul volume 26 ffs. I've been to "follow the music not the crowd" in Congelton and can recommend that,Paul Mumford at Chesham always played a rarely heard interesting set and the 100 club also used to be good - any others folks? Rare soul was always about finding and breaking new tunes from where ever they could be found, what happened? have we all got complacent ? i don't believe customers will dance to anything-or will they?,i for one keep looking and listening for tunes to inspire me and feel this is what the scene needs.
  14. i've often wondered where most of us fans of the "devils music" are based,an obvious answer would be the north of england, but is that right? there's allways been a big following around bedford for instance, and it appears abroad too, what do we reckon?
  15. if the buildings empty ,maybe we all should consider re opening it?
