The Royal Star Arcade Maidstone
Built in the 16th century the original Star Hotel was an important coaching inn and a popular overnight stop. The 19th century saw the Hotel get the royal seal of approval, and the ‘Royal’ prefix, after a visit by a young Queen Victoria.

The Ashton Ukrainian club has gone from strength to strength following the re-launch in 2021 and a move to Saturday night. For 2024 we're looking to continue delivery quality rare and underplayed soul from the residents and ever growing list of outstanding guests.
Speaking of ‘Rare & Underplayed Soul’ we use that phrase to capture what Ashton tries to deliver musically, which is worth expanding upon.
Mainly it's an attempt to move away from the standard music policy strap lines we’re all so used to seeing like; Northern, 60s & 70s, Crossover, Modern, across the board etc. etc. whilst genuinely trying to capture an ethos. The words ‘rare’ and ‘underplayed’ are intended to apply both in their own right and together, it certainly isn't supposed to be limited rare records that are also underplayed……we should have added quality in there too LOL.
In a nutshell you will hear all three combinations of the phrase on any given night at the Ukrainian Club; ‘Rare’ (but not for rarities sake) ‘Underplayed’ (but not because they’re not good enough) and of course ‘Rare & Underplayed’ but, all with one eye on the dancefloor.
We don’t have a music ‘policy’, all our residents & guests are free to express themselves as they wish, which we believe adds to the magic. So simply expect a great night of quality soul music if you ever get the chance to join us at our friendly little club.

Crossgates Recreational Club is a very active club in north east Leeds. The management take a great pride in presenting the venue the very best they can. The function room is upstairs and there is a lift for easy access. Toilets are upstairs too. Friendly staff and working man club priced drinks.
Going back to our roots, the night is about the great times of our youth. Motown classics and sounds from the youth club days like Band of Gold by Freda Payne played from the original vinyl records. There might be smattering of popular modern and R&B.

IMPORTANT NEWS
Just wanted to let everyone know that SOS's original venue at All Saints Parish Hall in Ashton-on-Mersey unfortunately closed at the end of 2023. However this doesn't mean that SOS will be finishing as we have now found a new venue for 2024. We are now pleased to announce the new venue will be "Mersey Valley Sports Club" on Banky Lane, Sale only a few minutes from All Saints operating as normal on the 3rd Saturday of every month with the same opening and closing times. This modern air-conditioned clubhouse has a 100-120 capacity with plenty of tables/seating, decent sized dancefloor, cheap bar, large car park and outdoor seating area for smokers.
