Disregarding FW for a moment what is the definitive Wigan Casino NS record, that is the one 45 that sums it up. Epitome of Sound maybe ????

Wow, that clip brought all back. I still have the most vivid memory of one night looking over the balcony (as I did from time to time) and seeing an absolutely rammed dance floor going at Rhino when it was at it's height. The most jaw dropping sight I've ever seen, and ever likely to see. They were even giving it some on the outskirts of the floor and on the balcony. I often think if I could have captured any one time at the casino on film that would have been it. The sound clip is great but not wishing to detract from it, it can never even come close to actually being there in the heat and surrounded by the buzz. Atmosphere you felt you could reach out and grasp. A film clip of it would have been magnificent, but even then it would fall short for actually being there.

Bloody brilliant Malc! used to possess a tape circa 74 with all the classics on( listed on "how many times" thread) the jewells anthem really made the hairs stand on end, 1000+ soulies clapping in unison to the 8 count break before the music blasted into its finale and the balladic intro to harold melvin's "get out", again regimented clapping......music really WAS celebrated then....how many nights and all-nighters do you go to where you sense that spiritual camaraderie....clapping in perfect time is as respectful as dancing but WHEN was the last time you witness a 1000 soulies all doing that?.

Great theme for a thread, but tricky to do it justice in one song title. As already mentioned earlier, it partly depends on when you attended. Blown away by the atmosphere in Mike Post's Afternoon Of The Rhino but how about 'Strings A Go Go' by Bob Wilson Sounds or the Checkerboard Squares as it is known today? Every month there was a 'definitive sound', one that captured the moment, set the floor alight, stuck in your mind for days, months and years. Tomangoes was a slow burner compared to Saxie Russell. The Flasher probably created more stir than Dance, Dance, Dance. I would agree with lots of the tracks already mentioned by the Salvadors, Willie Mitchell, Jades, Jewels, etc but would add Gloria Jones 'Tainted Love', and perhaps the Vel-Vets 'I GotTo Find Me Somebody'.

    Has to be this for me, I jumped off the balcony to get to the dancefloor as I couldn't get down the stairs when it played one night.
