August 18, 201014 yr Can someone tell me how many people posting up revues paid to get in? lol Afternoon Martin
August 18, 201014 yr Can someone tell me how many people posting up revues paid to get in? I think Steve Plumb did for a start. However, whether anyone was working there or there as a customer it makes little odds. It was just a brilliant event full stop. Ian D
August 18, 201014 yr I paid Martin! I went along on the Sunday and I loved it from the minute I arrived! The Soul Casino wasn't essentially about Northern Soul, so I adjusted my expectations accordingly and had a fabulous time. The festival had a fantastic atmosphere and everyone appeared to be enjoying themselves. I'm deffo going again next year but for the whole weekend. Bring it on! Nicki XXX
August 18, 201014 yr Can someone tell me how many people posting up revues paid to get in? Ha Ha....I did! gotta say the Soul Casino knocked spots off any Northern event i've ever been to, it was just a different level, the atmosphere was probably more akin to Queen at Live Aid! Simon

Simon I along with my wife had a great time both in the Soul Casino (well done Ed,Beurit and Dan) and the Let it Rock tent, and for those of us who went to the Unicorn Club in the 80's should have recognised the backstage doorman as it was the very same person who used to do the RSG door. I will have to agree with everyone else the atmosphere in the Soul Casino was at times superb, roll on next year. Phil.

Ian D Yes I did and had a wife and two grown up kids with me....................oh and I paid for a record stall for the whole weekend too, which i believe was the ONLY official Record Stall at the Festival? A leap of faith you might say, or maybe I knew it was gonna be great from the very first time i heard about it, which was about 18 months ago! All four of us enjoyed it for completely different reasons and we will be back next year! Once again congratulations to all the Goodwood team. Cheers Steve Plumb www.soulmusic.co.uk
August 19, 201014 yr Ha Ha....I did! gotta say the Soul Casino knocked spots off any Northern event i've ever been to, it was just a different level, the atmosphere was probably more akin to Queen at Live Aid! Simon Sorry to p**s on your chips Simon but however good it may have seemed it certainly wasn't better than 'any' Northern event that I've ever been to. Suggest that perhaps either you've been to the wrong events, haven't been into the scene long enough or your memory 'aint what it once was (lol). It was good as I said earlier but hey let's not get carried away here. Mick

Mick I've been going to NS events for 15 - 20 years, probably the best atmospheres i've experienced were the Capitol Soul Club at it's height, 100 club mid to late 9ts, the first Cleethorpes weekender that Maxine Brown played at, the first Prestatyn weekender, maybe even my own do at The Volks in Brighton when we did a KTF alldayer (that was a bit special), countless other very good dos. Just think the Soul Casino on Saturday reached a more fever pitch level than i've experienced before, i used to go to Chicago house clubs & Acid House parties in the 8ts, Saturday was probably closer to the atmosphere generated at these. Not wishing to knock NS dos as i've had some amazing times over the years, just think Saturday was a very different vibe, it's actually made me re-think my whole attitude towards clubs, record formats, what can be played at clubs etc, it was a real moment of clarity, an eye opener. Simon I think the difference is that this was such a good major event that the atmosphere was akin to, say, the opening of Wigan Casino, Cleethorpes Pier or something similar. The other thing is that the audience was probably on average much younger (by about 20-25 years LOL) than most Northern events these events so the energy levels were right up there which is probably what Simon's alluding to more than anything. It certainly made me realise that a wider age range crowd makes a hell of a difference in terms of energy and atmosphere. Ian D

Ian D smiling at simons post as it features some of the same examples i used to use when going on about searching for that elusive "buzz" don't think age is a major factor Ian just a combination of attitude, anticipation and stuff like that, another example i'd say was the first few lifeline nighters at sheridans

August 20, 201014 yr leave them alone, they,re working for the man now. LOL, that's right. We've been co-opted by Wayne 'Dr Evil' Hemmingway and his dastardly plans for world domination........ The view from over here in the 'establishment' is wonderful! Ian D

August 20, 201014 yr Out of interest, which songs did Ann Sexton and Joe Bataan perform? Off the top of my head Anne Sexton sang 'You've been gone too long', 'I'm his wife (and your just a friend)' and 'I believe in miracles.' Joe sang 'Subway Joe' 'Gypsy woman' and The lord's prayer..... Edited August 20, 201014 yr by Maark
