I have been reading through an old copy of Blues & Soul from 1977 , which details / celebrates Wigan Casino's 4th Anniversary .

It states in a roll call for DJs who played there from its' opening in 1973 , that two of them were Ian Levine and Colin Curtis .

As far as I know , Colin never played there , but deep in the canyons of my mind , I seem to recall that Ian had been booked , but when he turned up to DJ , he left without playing a record after half an hour , following his decision that WC was not for him .

Anybody confirm ?

I seem to recall Levine being there on stage but for the life of me can't remember if he played a set, I have a feeling he may have done though.

I'm (almost) certain that Levine did a spot, remember him playing Job Opening.

I went to that and taped most of the night and no way did Ian Levine do a spot. Martyn Ellis did but apart from that, same dj's as usual.

Ian deff did at least two nights, about three weeks after it opened Oct 73 and again in Nov 73, 1st or 2nd sat.

The Nov one he played David & Giants, most people waiting for "Superlove" and "Ten Miles High" came on.

As for IL , this is where the debate come in - did he or did he not ? I thought he did not ( see my statement in my original post ) , but again , it could have been on a night that I did not attend .

Any chance of posting up the tape you have with IL on Mark ?

If he did, that would explain the bit about Mr Ms in a earlier post.

It was the back end of 74 when Ms opened (1st Ann?) I think.

So that gets me the double up then , missing the night Colin was on as well as the one with IL .

I attended Wigan every week from 1973 on & can confirm both Ian & Colin did indeed DJ in a competetive manner at Station Rd...

Unless they were cardboard cut outs....

Ian Levine DJ'd twice in late 73 i brilliant sets both but just a bit too upfront for most of Wigan crowd. Colin Curtis also DJ'd once late 73 and i think twice later. Certainly remember him playing BillY Woods - Let Me Make You Happy .

I think in Casino's first couple of months Russ was getting lots of offers from people wanting to DJ there but opted from Richard and Kev Roberts

I saw Colin DJ at The Casino around the time World Column and Lou Edwards were popular , I think he replaced Richard who was on holiday at the time .I know Ian Fishwick DJ'd at the early nighters at the Casino , which could have caused some confusion over whether Levine played there .Cheers ,Eddie

I'll go with that.Seem to think IL played Wigan as we all came down from the Mecca to see it.Cleared the floor with Voices of East Harlem,Mel Britt,probably Lyn Vernado.When i put this to him (IL) on here during the 100 Years Trouble Wars, he denied it.

Thank you to the concensus of my fellow SS members , that both CC and IL did DJ at WC .

My missing them on the nights when they shared the stage with the grand piano , could be attributed to either physically not attending , or being there but mentally not attending
