evening all, i ask cos im sure i got this in one of me boxes but not sure if it would be a real one,so,was it booted on backbeat or second press ? grateful for advice please,thanks

It was definitely booted on an issue ( not demo ? ) and i think the colours on the bootleg label are wishy-washy and not as vivid as they are on the original ?

deadwax markings on original are :- UV-5134

don't know if they're the same as boot tho ?

Also worth mentioning that the bootleg vinyl was thin, and (as far as I am aware) all were pressed off-centre.

bootleg is really thin vinyl, with a slightly raised ridge around the edge of the label, also the label is rough if you rub your finger over it

ermmm. im lost now. mine is a demo, with the UV5134 in the deadwax, slightly raised edge, dull label colouring, but not really thin (the Carl Carlton of mine is the same thickness) ..........

the problem lies ( me usually) with the 'trust' factor when buying. I bought mine as a def original, but these kind of things throw it all into turmoil ! I'm no expert, so ignorance/inexperience on my part has probably cost me a few bob. onward and upwards

me too!!! i have a copy that is a demo that carries over the drumstick..its a paler colour..maybe a little thinnish..now about 8 yrs ago Dave Rai took a look and even he couldnt be sure, he couldnt remember it being booted! so,,was it? and in ltd quantity? its certainly not the vibrant red of most original backbeat copies...but its not off centre..

If your copy isn't a nice, shiny bright orange - it's a boot.

The one I used to own looked like it had a clear varnish on the label, Very Glossy.

get your self down to spec savers pete, looks red to me, anyway red or orange, if it dont look like the one that pete has just posted up then its the boot in fact the best way to describe the boot label is a very poor ebay scan of the one that petes just posted (hope that makes sense)

I got this fairly cheap not knowing whether it was a boot or not. It is different to the one Pete has posted, as you can see, it has 'Promotionl not for sale' on the right hand side of the label, and doesn't have the 'Xs' on the left hand side. It it a pale red, with a 'mottled' looking label, and it is pressed off centre, it has the 'UV 5134' in the dead wax, and also '16964' opposite.
I believe now this to be a boot going by what is posted above. If it is, it may serve a purpose to someone that want's to know what a boot looks like.

manships boot guide counterfeit incorporates all the colours of the back beat promo copy,but the background red isn't full and is broken grainy see through effect which gives it away,giving the label a colour copy appearance.dead wax bootleg uv-5134 faintly scratched in original is deeply scratched in .

As I remember the story, the labels of the 70's era boot were initially thought to look "too new", so in an effort to make some of them appear more genuine they were left out in a certain persons garden to "weather". Sadly no one in the enterprise considered the possibility of rain, hence the washed out look of some labels. They were pressed in Ireland if memory serves? Can't remember the exact details now, it's gotta be 40 years ago or close to it, but Ruby Red records in Wolves seems to be in the story somewhere? Was it a friend of the owner of said shop who put up the money for the pressing to be done? There's several on here who can correct my memories, inc owner of the garden  which to be fair was more jungle than garden in those days.... 
 (it's worth saying that not all the boots from that batch were put out in the rain, so some must still have good labels?)

Never heard the rain story John but they did come from Ruby Red via a mutual friend, they also did the Cool Off b/w All Of My Life boot.

Just an aside really (sunday afternoon musings) I absolutely love the very soulful flipside Mr Soft Touch, and used to spin it at x-over events (albeit speeded up to make it danceable) and one day thought I'd found a unique promo copy with Mr Soft Touch on both sides. I was dissapointed when it arrived and it was just a mislabelled standard copy. I eventually gave that copy away and afterwards decided I needed a copy back.
First time I looked I found a second mislabelled copy, identical to the previous copy (except this has W.O.L)
This got me thinking, perhaps they cocked up the pressing batch and hence it didn't get distributed as it should, contributing to its rarity on true correctly labelled original?

Does anyone else have a mislabelled copy?

I like mr soft touch as it is....great record.
