Posted January 27, 201213 yr Current price ? And am I right in thinking only promo's out there ? Anybody got or seen an issue ? Edited January 27, 201213 yr by 123-motown
January 28, 201213 yr I have been after this LP for about 5 years. The last copy that I am aware of having sold on the internet transacted on this forum about a year ago and I believe it sold for 200 UK pounds...which would have been a steal. Of the four copies that have sold on Ebay.com since 2004, three were sold by the same seller, implying that they had a small stash of them. I did at one point figure out who the seller was.....contacted them to see if they had more....received no response. In terms of other transactions, there is a chain in Japan (who will not ship LPs aboad) that claimed to have had two copies in and out in a single 12 month period (I contacted them perhaps 2 years ago to ask as they listed it in their blogs). You can figure out the name of the store if you search on google. They are either incredibly skilled at finding rare music, or just plain lucky. I personally offered to purchase this LP (for well above popsike market value!) on this forum about a year ago, but no one offered a copy for sale or trade. The term "rare" as it relates to records is oft-overused.....but for Ms. Brown's LP, not in this case. This album is truly rare. BTW, rumours abound that the gentleman that ran Sundi was a bit shifty....I am suspicious that this might have been the last album on the label and am very confident that it was never released for distribution. If you have this album, let me know....I will pay you very well, and have been waiting to buy it for a long time. It is my unicorn....
January 28, 201213 yr I'd like one too please ...Been looking since I picked up her sublime 45 "I'm not responsible" just over a year ago. One day maybe. Trouble is, I'm guessing there's a fair few of us who'd love to have a copy, hence price could go bit silly if a good one comes up for sale Anyway, on the bright side, 100's more amazing cheaper soul LP's to cross off the wants lists first hey?! All the best, Steve
January 28, 201213 yr Monk Higgins clearly produced the record (and possibly owned the label). Backing singers on this probably are the rest of the specialties unlimited, basically making this a specialties unlimited record. The specialties unlimited were Mamie Galore, Alex Brown, and Clydie King. Higgins used them as backup for his productions -- for example, I know they sing on a 3 sounds album. Also, why didn't you try to find someone in Japan to buy the record for you and ship it to you? Edited January 28, 201213 yr by boba
January 28, 201213 yr Author did this lp come out in 1969/70 It came out in 71 - Mistype by me on posting
January 31, 201213 yr Sundi was actually owned by Gil Cabot. You can read a bit of the story on the Both Sides Now site: https://www.bsnpubs.com/florida/sundi/sundi.html There are many other references to Gil Cabot out there, including some which are very *interesting*: https://www.teddwebb.com/showcase/where_are_they_now/gil_cabot.html https://96.126.114.52/~toby/forums/showthread.php?t=24029 https://humbleopinion.wordpress.com/2009/02/02/todd-black-aka-gil-cabot-aka-prison-mate/ https://www.paed.uscourts.gov/documents/opinions/99D0312P.pdf BTW, if you are at all in to sunshine pop with female vocals, the Mercy album is also very good, and is easy to obtain. In terms of why I didn't buy a copy from the store in Japan (Disk Union BTW)......the real challenge was that by the time I found the post on Disk Union's site, they had already sold the album. The manager at the Shibuya store ( https://blog-shibuya-jazz.diskunion.net ) replied that they had sold two copies in the past year. Whether this is true or not is not something that I can easily assess. They certainly do advertise that they pay reasonably well for many rare groove titles. The full album, together with artwork, was posted for download back in 2009 on 4bbweekly (https://4bbweekly.wordpress.com/2009/09/20/week-38-lovely-baby/) Not sure if the files are still floating around out there. I did download them and the recording is decent (but not stellar). It is certainly a good way to get an intro to the album. Overall, it is isn't worth 600 bones just from a musical perspective...there are many $60-100 records out there that are better, but of course not nearly as rare.
January 31, 201213 yr good luck on your search. you might do better going off ebay and off this board -- e.g. try talking to local dealers, etc. Ebay will be expensive and set sale here is (usually) more expensive than ebay.
February 1, 201213 yr This Alex Brown went on ebay tonight. https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250980662647+#ht_1126wt_859 Aid.
February 1, 201213 yr This Alex Brown went on ebay tonight. https://cgi.ebay.com/...+#ht_1126wt_859 Aid. wow , that's a great tune , want one ! now in my list of never to be had records ! Swifty
February 2, 201213 yr I don't know if people know this, but ebay was messed up for a couple hours today and you couldn't log in (if you weren't already logged in). Almost all snipes failed during this period. So a lot of stuff went really cheap to the early bidders. I don't know if the alex brown was in the no-snipe period or not (actually I could probably look at the bid history ...) but it might have gone for much more.
November 4, 201212 yr Musically, this is a high quality LP, a number of the LP only tracks are even superior to the excellent cross over gem "I'm Not Responsible" .... and it is a truly rare LP .
November 6, 201212 yr The power of Soul Source........ https://www.ebay.com/itm/ALEX-BROWN-Search-Love-SUNDI-Soul-LP-Rare-/190748619766
November 7, 201212 yr Tend to agree with phillyDaveG I managed to pick up the LP sealed from the US about 25 years ago from a set sale in Goldmine magazine Don't remember the price, but only a few dollars as it wasn't really known I bought it as I already had the single and thought it may be good to have the album From memory, the wasn't really anything on the LP that was as good as the single, and I can't really remember there being many good ballads either - I may be wrong though When I sold my collection I got what was fair money for each At the time What I would say though is that it is without doubt a rare album, having only ever seen my copy and my mates from Dundee (which I'm sure he still has) Jim
November 12, 201212 yr Blimey...I see the LP sold for $1825 last night on ebay. To the bottom of the list I think
August 26, 201410 yr Author I see another copy has turned up on evil bay with a start price of $999.99 ! Be interesting to see how much this one goes for ?
October 31, 201410 yr Author With a buy it now of $2000.00 ! Which currently equates to what the last copy in August went for, £1200.00 , and that was in better condition all round
November 7, 201410 yr I'll be happy to trade a lovely condition issue of "I'm not responsible" for her LP (+ a few hundred quid to go with the 45, depending on condition of the LP and sleeve) if anyone interested? Thanks, Steve.
November 7, 201410 yr It went for £947.00 this morning https://collectorsfrenzy.com/details/390961384352/1970_Alex_Brown_In_Search_Of_Love_LP_promo_RARE "record is VG++, almost VG+++" I guess the seller is from England ?
