  • was booted on a green label. one on ebay looks kosher tho.

  • Careful because both the boot and the original are styrene. They look very. very similar. The boot has PB scratched into the run off.

  • The "PB" I believe were the initials of the guy who did the boots Mr Manship did tell me the story and the guys name He is your man on this one!!

As far as I know this has never been booted. I have the same copy, but I don't think it's worth as much as that is priced at.

I may be wrong though so I would wait for others to answer before you take any intended action.

Cheers

That and the paper label are the only way to tell the difference!! Be careful with this one if you cant see the run out groove as some people try to erase the "PB" out of the run out as that is the big give away................. :(:g:

Also, have to be wary, at that price, where seller doesn't vouch for it being an original and states:-

ALL RECORDS ARE ORIGINAL PRESSINGS UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED

Theres about 6 titles that have have the Pb Salvadors, George Blackwell ect

Cheers Ted , I've told myself a million times to stop exagerating

Swifty

Matrix details are within an earlier thread...the scan in the advert looks to be of an original copy...smooth, well-affixed label and decent print quality.

Craig Moerer auctioned a VG- copy recently which went for almost double that price:

Have a look [here]

Flogged a boot a couple of month back - £27.00

Thanks, as I said I wasn't sure and wanted the enquirer to wait for more info.

As they say live and learn! :-)

Here's a teaser then. I paid approx' £15 for this on ebay about 3 years ago. It has the matrix number 'PR 256' scratched into the dead wax, but no 'PB' anywhere and no scratched out marks?

was I lucky to get an original cheap, or is this a boot?.

I'm no expert, but the run out grooves look quite wide in that scan and in my limited experience wide run out grooves tend to indicate a 70's press rather than an original.

So that would indicate that the lack of 'PB' on these doesn't necessarily mean that it's not a boot? Making it even harder to distinguish the original copies from the legit ones.

Just as an update, the auction has ended now with no buyer by the looks.

im suprised no-one brought that copy, defo looked right and in nice condition as stated a vg- copy sold for near £300.00 last week on ebay

as craig moerer stated first copy he had auctioned on ebay, not an easy 45, sounds great played out loud.............

wouldn't the MR matrix give it away if it was a boot - like the Soul Patrol for instance?

Sold mine about 12 years ago, so memory hazy, but I thought the bhe boots did, won't it be in the late 90's to 100 in the MR matrix?

I sold one a two or three years back - presumed it was a boot - got about £10-£20 for it I think - isn't there something different about the dash between the pre and the vue on the boot I seem to remember? or the shade of green?

Mine doesn't have 'MR' on either??

The machine-stamped 'MR' denotes the Monarch pressing plant, and is therefore not on all styrene records.

The original Johnny Vanelli was not manufactured at Monarch, so no MR.

:hatsoff2:

no, but the boots of both the Soul Patrol and Johnny V were weren't they - like a lot of the boots at that time?

I bought an original off ebay about 4 years ago for less than £70 off a UK seller. He forgot to mention it was cracked! So sent it back.

also the gto's.......think it was a new york fella who done these back in the day....more like counterfeits than boots as they are hard to tell ....except for p.b.....as ever could be a bit wrong ,but not wrong if ya know what l mean tezza

The JohnnyV bootlegs/counterfeits were on styrene not vinyl...but were not manufactured at Monarch...hence no MR stamp or Delta number.

my mistake! I thought all of those styrene boots were Monarch. Just shows what I know/knew! good I stopped collecting eh?
