Just wanted to say i ventured into the "apparently " shady world of record trades last night !!!Been collecting for just under two years....decided as you do that some of your purchases are'nt "all of that "......so put a box together for trading.....NOT SALES !!!  Explained i was new to this and had little idea of value of his trades !! ....2 records were wanted... my reply was .."GIVE ME A FAIR DEAL FOR THEM"....i know it's the festive season , but fuck me i must have had more flashing lights on me than a Christmas tree...saying MUG..       3 recieved........;....one re- issue/boot???? (Apparently ..according to another  DJ on the night ),having looked at " the book "it obviously is.....one as good as explained, and the other waiting for another tit like me !! Life was simpler when i just danced !! Please don't ask for names ....not gonna tell you !!! Just thought i'd mention it with the intention of stopping it happening to you ,if you're as green as me !!

It's probably happened to all of us at some time or other - £3 for the Velour's on MGM special products back in '74 - still burns!

 

And we have all certainly paid a bit more than we should have for something I bet...

_{Happened to me years back. Dead chuffed got a George Blackwell from a very well known dealer/DJ. Paid about the right price. Then after one or two comparisms then the JM bootleg book I realised it was a fake. Told him and got my money back. Anyhow he resold to a guy who had a reputation for thumping first and asking questions after. Anyhow this guy realised it was a fake as well,by which time dealer had left the venue. Anyhow the lad got his money back before returning the GB to said dealer COMPLETE WITH NEAT HOLE DRILLED THROUGH THE RECORD.}

I have a few bootlegs - better say counterfeits - in my collection that were bought when I was a lad and when everything was all new and unknown to me.

 

I always bought from the big name dealers at the time, because of their knowledge and reputations.

 

Nevertheless, this didn't stop me being sold counterfeits like the Royal 5 on Tyler as originals, and being sold things like second presses of stuff like the Ambers - Potion Of Love (Smash) as original first issues.

 

I didn't really know my arse from my elbow and took things on trust. Well, you live and learn.

 

I'm pretty sure it was only one of the big name dealers I used to buy off that did this to me, but I honestly can't remember enough detail to be sure or point the finger.

 

Still a tad pissed off though - even 30+ years later

 Neil when buying/trading/selling vinyl it really does help if you can read, the above kinda explains how you may have got into this situation in the first place, try and get some help if you're struggling, if I'm around gimme a shout,

Scenes always had its con men and thieves some venues more than others,what always bothers me is some over look it and continue to trade with and attend these places.Your not the first and wont be the last neal,be a bit more choosy who you deal with and were you go atb.
