:hatsoff2:  HI ALL....YES IT'S ME BACK (for how long) feeling much better, so thanks for all the nice comments sent, also thanks for staying with the RECORD CLUB thread WELL DONE,

As I am very late with picking a new theme, I thought it was time for us to pick the TOP Favourites of each member, ideally pick a 45 from your collection, that you feel that it is a must have record to own, not easy! as I'm aware that there are similar threads all over the WEB, that your choice will also include info that will help younger soul brothers & sisters will enjoy your pick,.

WHY WE NEED TO DO THS?  On Friday we had a Gas man at a guess he was in his mid 20s, call at our house, he could not contain himself after noticing my record room, he asked me many questions about the rare soul scene, as he had started going to local events & was going to the Blackpool weekender,

Never to miss a opportunity to play records, I put on a few classics for him, what surprised me was he did not know some & the ones he did he was unaware of the artist or title, in-fact he needed some education, (this is something that is missing from other threads, with a couple of exception, John Manships gives a great potted write up on all of his items that I really enjoy.)

A list of must haves as opposed to the top 500 records that Kev Roberts put together will differ by the fact it is record club members pick, not 1 persons view, although Kevs book is excellent, this will be if we can be a collectors guide & benefits the up & coming DJs of to-morrow,

I have put a few pictures of what I call classics, but for some off the younger people they are newies,

To kick of the thread I have picked a big sound from 1972 that would be classed as a TORCH MECCA classic,

SMASH RECORDS #S2111 - the AMBERS - "Potion of LOVE" b/w "Another LOVE".

Fabulous Apollos - Some Good In Everything Bad Valtone

Edited by hullsoul

These two should be in you gas man's list. Seems Larry is the name for top soul sounds

Nice pairing there mate.Larry is one of my fave 70s i have it on UK London.Dont hear it that much these days but during the 90s it was played out big time, think it was originally a Mecca spin

Here is Mine for today another from the deep nighter hours. This is the flip to the Fuller brothers Torch classic on Soul Clock. This is my prefered side--Moaning Groaning and Crying, wish it got as much action as its overplayed top side

Patto

Great double-sider.I'm in your gang Moaning,Groaning is just the better of the two sides.

I too have it on UK London, it is an awesome track - fills the floor still every time. Prophets of Soul album it's from doesn't have a bad track on it

Sticking with the Larry theme - I know I've posted this before but it's a great soul record. Sir Dickie's old Top Cat cover up - Larry Houston Lets Spend Some Time Together.

Loved it back in the early 80's and still love it today.

Casino oldie here that seems to be a love or hate marmite record.Personally i love it but know lots who cant stand it.Not heard it out for a few years now.Mine is on the yellow label same as the clip but there is also a multi coloured label.

Patto

Mines a yellow one too & have been told they are the demo's & the multicoloured ones are the issues? The multicoloured ones look great imo.

I'm in the love it gang

Do you know if the yellows are harder to find than the issues, think i have seen a lot more of the coloured ones over the years.Very raw and moody dancer always thought its true home should have been Stafford rather than Wigan.

My understanding is the yellow ones are harder but don't know for certain?

Must admit can't remember it from Wigan but that doesn't mean a lot as the 70t's were a bit of a blur

A tune from me today that a few years back was massive, not sure if it'd had regular plays before?Certainly couldn't go to any night at one time without hearing it.
