Between the fifties teen idols[Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers-Little Anthony & The Imperials] and the Motown sensations[The Jackson Five]of the late sixties, there were Burke family group-The Five Stairsteps who had a string of hits-1966-71 under the tuteledge of Curtis Mayfield they were the first family of soul and later were joined by little[Cubie]a shoutout to a good soul teen group.

AND of course MS superstar Keni Burke (+ the Invisible Mans Band) came out of the group .........

running almost parallel with The Burkes at this time was The Simmons family, originally calling themselves The 5 Stepping Stars they then became The Family Circle, the groups leader and writer in chief was the multi talented Charles "Chas" Simmons who I am glad to say is still involved with music projects to this day, had a few conversations with him and he told me they had worked alongside The Burkes. Two very talented Family groups indeed

I remember when you could pick up copies of their albums in Yanks, Manchester for 49p (sometimes even less ) !!

The group before they got on Curtom .... I just love this 45 label with the 2 distinctive Chitown skyscrapers on it ..........

this is one of my favorite tracks by them from the Loves Happening lp.........did this come out on 45 anywhere?

 

 

Have often played You cant see.Cheap as chips records on a great label Windy C.

Dont have to be mega bucks does it.

I think this is a cracking tune, cost me a fiver or so.

 

And this completes my fave top 3 Five Stairsteps tunes.
